I heard an interview with Lesley in the past year. She said Judy's Turn to Cry was a well-written and well-produced song, a better song than It's My Party. But, she said it was mean spirited and even back in 1963 she felt a little bad about wishing Judy such pain. Go Lesley.
She was such a class act. Never a bad word from her or about her. She was an integral part of the wonderful golden era of pop music. I will always remember her with affection and listen to her music with the same passion I did back in the the day. RIP Lesley and know you are in the hearts of millions.
Notice the dancer running like a crazed deer from the lower right corner of the screen at 0:40? Do you suppose she wasn't paying attention and suddenly realized that she had missed her cue? No one probably noticed at the time ... But that's one of the joys of UA-cam -- watching something over and over again until unexpected details start to emerge.
I've been a big fan of Leslie's since the mid-60's. I still love her old songs. They bring back many happy memories. She came out of the closet several years ago. I guess that she really wanted Judy, instead of Johnny, all along.
Led by a young producer named Quincy Jones, and a staff of seasoned musicians, all Lesley Gore had to do was show off her tremendous voice to some of the best pop tunes of the 60's. By branching out into acting, she showed the world what an immense talent she truly was. RIP Lesley.
stephen dwyer Not getting into any e mail fight; go look up either his history or hers and you will find he was the producer in NY for her records; King-Goffin and Mann-Weiss wrote some of her tunes but didn't produce them.
She will be sorely missed by us all. A great singer and performer. The joy that she brought so many through her music will live forever. To all the kids that popped on the 45 and cranked it up and danced.
Great follow up to "Its my Party" She didn't write her own songs. Myself as a straight man I have no problems with her being a Lesbian(As that was her sexual preference). Also she was Jewish, was probably hard on her also. She stood the test of time. I have a deep respect for her.She was a real cutie and good singer.
The music industry had a lots of talented entertainers and singers and writers that was Jewish back then like Carole King, Barry Manilow, Carly Simon, Barbra Streisand, Engelbert Humperdinck, Mel torme, Ringo Starr, Neil Sedaka and Neil Diamond "Cracklin Rose" Peter Tork of the Monkees
I wouldn't have Johnny back on a silver platter, personally. If he's that willing to walk off with other girls....I'd tell Judy to use him in good health, and while she can, because while she stole him, he went too easily...and he'd do it with others. I grew up on oldies like "It's My Party" but I didn't hear "It's Judy's Turn to Cry" until recently.
What an era of music! Entertainers dressed up and the background singers dressed up too. Lovely to see. We'll never see these days again when American singers take pride in how they look when they perform. Treasure these videos! Thanks for posting.
+Petr Slivinski Yes, actually I totally agree with you I am always banging on about it. In my day - I was a London teenager - the only thing that came off was Sandie Shaws shoes. Its such a shame that that kind of innocence is lost isn't it.
Roz Drew I visited London with the current music scene that was great and the surrounding areas were just as great. Saw the Beatles and then Herman's Hermits, The Kinks, The Mindbenders, Peter and Gordon, Chad and Jeremy, and Petula Clark. I could name many that were beginning their career and would soon be chart toppers. Love those days! My girl (now my wife) and I and our mates would stroll around London and the surrounding areas plus the countryside. England was beautiful in all seasons and a great time to be had making wonderful memories. Happy Holidays to you! Be safe and be well!
It's a reply song to famous hit "It's My Party". In that one, the singer is having a party and Johnny is HER boyfriend and disappears with Judy. When they come back Judy's wearing his ring." So I stand by my saying, Judy got hers, although Johnny wasn't much to depend on either, was he?
OMG! My mom gave me this 45 when I was a little girl - played it until I stopped using my record player.......Thanks for the post - a real trip down memory lane. :-)
I liked to hear this song long ago and I remember so many things of that last year in High School when I hear it. Nice memories this song brings to me.
I wanted a pair of those white GO GO boots when i was young but my mom said no. Those were the in boots to have. I love the oldies. Lots of good memories. thanks for sharing this.
Just like there was great music in the 60's, there was great music in the 70's, 80s', 90's, 00's and today. I think once people get a certain age, they think any kind of music produced after their teens/20's is garbage and that is simply not the case. Music has evolved and yes, there is bad music out today but there is alot of good music too. Open you minds folks!
Fawk Yu I really pity you. Your comments seem to reveal a young person (if that is your photo) who comes across (if that is your intent) so maladjusted that you are filled with anger and rage at what you perceive to be the unfairness of the world. And by extension, people who post comments here. You seem jealous and envious of anyone who find happiness and joy, such as Donna Simms. You lash out at a stranger. Why? You use profanity (your screen name) and your insulting comments (“raising cocks every night”) in order to shock and therefore impress people. It’s also called “internet bullying.” Are you trying to shock people? Not me. Intimidate them? Not a bit. Demonstrate your grasp of English? Hardly. Show us your soaring intellect? Uh, don’t think so. No, you probably haven’t succeeded at anything, especially relationships, so you are trying to make a name for yourself as some kind of “tough dude” through the anonymity of the internet. So, you are going to spend the rest of your life, not acting like a responsible adult, but instead, trolling UA-cam for years and years and insulting people you have never met and know nothing about? Just to get attention? What a sad life; I do feel sorry for you. Perhaps sometime you will learn to treat people with respect, courtesy, and compassion. I certainly hope so--for your benefit, as well as theirs.
The best about that decade is there are no auto tunes and you could hear all the instruments not like now when half of music is done by a computer ,, and just the hair the clothes I love it and love the songs,, I grew up in the 90 but really just love the 60 and 70 music ❤♥
I was born in 1957. I don't remember hearing it when it came out, but when I started to listen to KRTH 101.1 in Los Angeles oldies radio station I got to hear how much American music was better than what came from Britain. KRLA with Art Laboe on AM also played oldies back in the mid seventies too.
I didn't really appreciate her back then as I was more into Motown artists and I thought Ms. Gore wasn't exciting enough. Fortunately, over the years as I matured, I learned to appreciate her style of performance. She's not like a Ronnie Spector but I definitely enjoy Ms. Gore',s performances and I felt bad about her passing. I have most of her songs and I still listen to them with great pleasure. 🤓👍
Lesley Gore! I remember seeing this on Shindig way back when. Teri Garr is one of the background dancers. I like the way the Blossoms, the Wellingtons, and the rest all take their places.
@CanadaguyRudey...are you stuck in a 60's rut there canadaguyrudey? I adore today's music - as much as I adore music from the 60's. I love glam rock, metal, rap, punk -I love it all. I am glad I am not as closed minded about music as you. Why not give it a chance? You might just find something that makes you feel young.
Judy's Turn To Cry is a bit of a sequel song to It's My Party by Lesley Gore. The narrator of the song notes that her boyfriend, Johnny, broke up with her in the lyrics to It's My Party, planning on marrying Judy. Only to dump Judy and go back to the narrator of the song--go figure! But the question remaining is- "Did she keep johnny or break up with him soon after getting him back?" And yes, I know that Lesley Gore is a lesbian, but I'm reffering to the character in the song taking "Johnny" back. But all in all this was and is a very good song done by a very good artist.
Johnny got around, he was Shelley's Johnny Angel, then he got with Judy at Lesley's Party, then he dumped Judy and got back with Lesley, then Shelley found out Johnny Loves me!
Judy was capricious, ungrateful, rebellious. Judy found out that her grandfather was going to the party, Judy started to cry. Daddy asked: Why are you crying? Judy said: It's my party and I'll cry if I want to! Judy's father worked with Lesley Gore's production.
@Deuce2you Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm never able to put my thoughts into words about that and you just did it flawlessly. Thank you for making sense.
Lesley Gore is the most perfect example of the early 1960’s Youth can think of. Her hair, her clothes, her makeup, her music She had it all.
Man. I love this woman and her voice. We need to bring her into the popular space she deserves
I heard an interview with Lesley in the past year. She said Judy's Turn to Cry was a well-written and well-produced song, a better song than It's My Party. But, she said it was mean spirited and even back in 1963 she felt a little bad about wishing Judy such pain. Go Lesley.
Same i would feel bad a bit also
Lol she must be an angel especially because Judy and Johnny were totally fictive
Aww. I love her so much
@@nadirhajjour yes, she really was an angel
@yourmobilegamer1234 I would have kicked Judy's but nobody steals my man you better not even try to borrow him let alone steal him!!!
I remember having a color block dress and white go go boots in elementary school. It was so groovy!
She was such a class act. Never a bad word from her or about her. She was an integral part of the wonderful golden era of pop music. I will always remember her with affection and listen to her music with the same passion I did back in the the day. RIP Lesley and know you are in the hearts of millions.

Thanks I never realized it the first 100 times watching it. I'm being sincere. I was laughing at the blunder you brought to my attention.
she really ran fast for that it made me laugh
I noticed it and had a giggle lol 🤣 that was a classic lmao
Totally missed it but now it’s hilarious 😩
But she hit her spot right on cue with the rest of the dancers and didn’t miss a step at all
I've been a big fan of Leslie's since the mid-60's. I still love her old songs. They bring back many happy memories. She came out of the closet several years ago. I guess that she really wanted Judy, instead of Johnny, all along.

She will be sorely missed by us all. A great singer and performer. The joy that she brought so many through her music will live forever. To all the kids that popped on the 45 and cranked it up and danced.
And when Leslie realizes she likes Judy, it'll be Johnny's turn to cry.
this is gold
I’m pretty sure it was like this lol
meu deus mano siiim ksksksk
That’s the woke version. No thanks
this screams “romantic rivals to lovers” and I love it

Lesley was one of the best ever. Love all of her music. She never sang a bad song I don’t like. Just pure talent.
No auto-tune here, a live performance. You're gone Leslie, so now it's my turn to cry.
I sure miss variety type shows like this. Songs were simple and catchy, the dancing during this period is better than anything today.
What an era of music! Entertainers dressed up and the background singers dressed up too. Lovely to see. We'll never see these days again when American singers take pride in how they look when they perform. Treasure these videos! Thanks for posting.

YEAH I WAS WALKING IN LONDON AND ROD STEWART WALKED RIGHT PAST ME,
This was a wonderful era with great music and the singer's weren't half naked
Her voice is so vibrant. Love her!
Good, I always hoped Judy would get hers.
TheNickel1964 Judy was probably just as much a victim of Johnny's evil manipulations as Lesley. I bet he lied to both of them.......the cad!
GORDON BENNETT Quite right. That's probably why Lesley decided she preferred Judy instead of Johnny!
Classic Junk True
TheNickel1964 SHE DID.
DONKEY SHOW QUEEN OF TJ ...LOL
rip lovely person she was.
I really love the background dancers' color block, Piet Mondrian inspired dresses!
Teri Garr is among them.
John Rotella
And you know this how?
yeah! There she is!
yeah! There she is!
yeah! There she is!
What a voice Lesley had. Loved all of her classics from that era.
Feb 16, 2015 - The day a very special music legend died. You'll always rock Leslie!
Lesley. The Jewish spelling.
May yu R I P
OMG! My mom gave me this 45 when I was a little girl - played it until I stopped using my record player.......Thanks for the post - a real trip down memory lane. :-)
Hi Jenean
I liked to hear this song long ago and I remember so many things of that last year in High School when I hear it. Nice memories this song brings to me.
Just perfect - I will always enjoy hearing Lesley sing!
gorgeous blue eyes and beautiful blonde hair
but its in Black and white 😂
I'm pretty sure it was red😂
It’s was blonde mixed with ginger hair
She had green eyes and strawberry blonde hair
I'd never heard this song before today! Thank you for sharing!
I wanted a pair of those white GO GO boots when i was young but my mom said no. Those were the in boots to have. I love the oldies. Lots of good memories. thanks for sharing this.

12 years later and is still a very good take. always try to expand your musical tastes!
i love lesley's movements during the instrumentals it's very in sync
Queen of the 60's💋
I love all of Leslie Gore's songs. I also love It's my party and Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows.
I LOVE Leslie Gore! SOOOO Talented and Cute!!! I believe she wrote her own hit songs!
Well, fuck what you believe. The fact of the matter is she DID NOT write any of her hit songs!
Couldn't agree more with you, Donna. I was in high school when this song hit the billboards. What a great talent!
Rob Thadumas
Yeah man, at least she's a responsible mom. :)

Hmm, sounds about right, it seems u've figured me all out mate. It's time they hand you that PhD degree in Psychology. :)
Grew up with her songs I'm judy my turn to cry bye
Gore's records formed a chain of personal dramas, with everyone waiting for the next link.

LESILE. GORE will be sadly. missed but her voice and music will live on in our hearts
Meu coração derrete quando ela canta "Judy's turn to cry... Ooh, yeah!". ❤️❤️❤️
O meu tbm ♥️ Uma das minhas cantoras favoritas.
Parecia uma bonequinha.
R.I.P.
Dps q ela morreu, agora é minha vez de chorar :(
Elegancy, style, sympathie, wonderful voice. Characteristics of Lesley!
ireally love lesley gores songs even at the ripe old age of 70 now
Love this performance...esp. the go go girl scrambling back to her post!
Great song amazing voice
Great live performance from Lesley!

QUEEN OF 60's
I always thought Lesley and Judy should have come together to teach Johnny a lesson!
😂😂
RIP...
I was young but my aunt n older sister rock that gals 45's all the day way back then.
I wish this was in full color and had better lighting I would love to see all the outfits I am loving the boots
MUSIC WAS SO SIMPLE IN THE 60S..EVERTHING WAS AIM AT TEENAGERS....ANY SONG WITH TEEN LYRICS.WAS A HIT I WAS A TENN IN THIS ERA.....EASY LIVING MAN!
Lesley Gore! I remember seeing this on Shindig way back when. Teri Garr is one of the background dancers. I like the way the Blossoms, the Wellingtons, and the rest all take their places.
Except for that dancer in the back on the far left.
The Wellingtons sang the Gilligan's Island theme song.
Probably the best Sequel of songs.
No conocía ésta joya
She was the greatest
It a great song
Loved Lesley, but in the end Johnny cried, Judy win.
one of the greats. luckily for us, she leaves us he music.
omg i love this song soooooooooooooooo much
@CanadaguyRudey...are you stuck in a 60's rut there canadaguyrudey? I adore today's music - as much as I adore music from the 60's. I love glam rock, metal, rap, punk -I love it all. this is so old...Love it!!!
I wouldn’t take that son of a bitch Johnny back even if he came back to me
+Taylor Momsen Well she wouldn't have anyway. I'm not making this up, but Lesley Gore was actually a lesbian despite all her guy songs.
raymesquite really? lmao slay it gurl
raymesquite maybe she was bi?
Taylor Momsen nope she called herself a lesbian
NNNNNOOOOOOOOO OMGH ROB
Love it!!!!

Did not know Leslie was gay until a few years ago. R.I.P. Many great hits.
"Judy's Turn To Cry", by Leslie Gore's 2nd. hit in 1963, written by same author as "Candy Man" for Roy Orbison.
Johnny got around, he was Shelley's Johnny Angel, then he got with Judy at Lesley's Party, then he dumped Judy and got back with Lesley, then Shelley found out Johnny Loves me!
Then Johnny was with Joanie Sommers. He got angry & mad & gave her the biggest lecture she ever had.
Probably from Shindig .And here's your host....A great performance with all those dancers. Great Post!
When I went to the local record store, "It's My Party" had been restocked with "Judy's Turn to Cry." It was my 1st Lesley Gore record.
It was the 60s, we all screamed, cried and fainted.
Judy was capricious, ungrateful, rebellious.
Judy found out that her grandfather was going to the party, Judy started to cry.
Daddy asked: Why are you crying?
Judy said: It's my party and I'll cry if I want to!
Judy's father worked with Lesley Gore's production.
soooooooon sweet.. and talented
Thanks for the post.
Darlene Love and the Blossoms ably supplying backing vocals... !
I didn't know that. Darlene is one of my all-time favorite artists.
Im in my teens and i love old music, movies, and how the women looked
Is this guy, Johnny, really worth it?
Lesley’s gone, but I hope she knew how much she was loved so much…
She got ripped off for years and did not have much money when she died.
She deserved a lot of money though...it’s sad sometimes how things end
H
nice song thanks for posting:)
At the end "And now, here is your Shindig host...Jimmy O'Neill".
im in my 20s but i adore 60s music. Its so much better than most the pop music now...minus Adele, who is a true throw back
Yes, Lesley is singing live.
I wonder who is playing bass on this show? Carole Kaye, James Jamerson, etc. Love that playing.
PS...Some other commenter mentioned that Quincy Jones produced her stuff. Top quality session players. 🎼
Was Johnny charged with assault ?
“I know where I'm going and I know the truth, and I don't have to be what you want me to be. I'm free to be what I want.” - Muhammad Ali
@Kristenioi I believe it's the fall of 1963 or early 1964, since her first hit IT'S MY PARTY was in the summer of 1963.
This is NOT lip sync. Man isn't Lesley awesome!!!!!
mooi gezongen
RIP. LIsten to "You Don't Own" me, I think that was her best song. Just my opinion. Loved her.
Yes, it's certainly a magnificent song, darker and deeper than her earlier happy tunes.
love
Im 14 and i love this song
You are 22!!!
@Deuce2you
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I'm never able to put my thoughts into words about that and you just did it flawlessly.
Thank you for making sense.
still groovy Happy Birthday!
They are dancing the Pony so it must but like 1964 or 65 and they are wearing go go booths too :) I remember those I had a pair.
"She's a fool" was a favorite
