Fantastic video, love the HST, from my childhood I remember travelling to Newcastle in the 1980s and still to this day on Scotlands railway. Even the drivers say they are great, old, but good and fast.
We'd like to think so but just like the Castle sets on GWR they didn't last as long as initially thought thanks to the DFT and their daft ideas so catch them while you can I say, especially given there are now calls they're unsafe (after running safely for 40 years) you just never know.
IMHO they’re unreliable, unsafe, extremely uneconomical, LOUD and an outdated relic on Scotland’s railway. Get rid ASAP. Lovely video though. Rare to see two working next to each other.
I imagine you are correct regarding fuel economy, one power car would do & a DVT although 2 power cars ensure no adhesion problems. Loud? A good job you weren't around when they were powered by the Paxman Valenta ! Regarding unreliability they have 2 power cars so a complete failure is very unusual. I believe you are correct regarding safety, they are not state of the art in this respect.
Ah, the HST 125, the Jewel in Britain's railway crown
Indeed, a pinnacle of sorts before the decline of the last 30 years

Cheers Chris, good times 👍
You have until 2030 before they go. JG.

These HST trains are far better and far more luuriouse inside than most modern trains on the UK Railways to day

Each to their own, perhaps some folk prefer the new plastic units with uncomfortable seats that don't line up with the windows.
