good vid! show's how much British Rail went forward, with 43102/43159 getting up to 148mph, 91110 doing 162 mph. yet modern trains have an average speed of 95-115.
I like the HSTs, but i agre that the fact that after 47 years, much of the UK cant exceed 125mph (bar a 67mph stretch for HS1) is ridiculous when alot of the newer intercity trains can reach 140mph (i think all bar the 180s on the ECML can hit 140mph, which should be doable, especially once ETCS is done on the ECML, which should hopefully allow some of the ECML to go to 140mph). Its just depressing, especially when alot of the mainlines with some upgrades could easily support faster trains
I'm not well read on BR literature overall, however if the specifics behind the "look" of BR are your thing, I couldn't recommend more "British Rail Designed 1948-1997". It's a wonderful coffee table-plus book that focuses on using plenty of HD images of everything from cutlery to uniforms to really immerse you in the design of BR throughout its history. At around £20 on Amazon it's far more affordable than the British Rail Identity Manual, which whilst extensive is just a gargantuan manual and is usually around £75 new..
It's something I've wanted to do for a while and likely to be my next vid, however the fact that very few restored videos of the 225 exist means that it's much harder to create content for them that fits the channel
@@BritishitRailPosting Running too time has some good clips, although i can see what you mean theres plenty of stuff for the HSTs floating about. What about a clip about the APT?
@@BritishitRailPostingOn the 1st of april its 30 years since the privatisation of BR (or at least the start of it anyway) So perhaps some form of edit could be made to “Celebrate” that, not that it did any good for are railways it just cocked it up like all other privatised business. but you know what i mean.
It depends on the specific video, but it's a mix of sources from various UA-cam accounts (though usually old news reports such as those from the BBC or Thames News), HD sources from the British Film Institute (lots of pre-'86 HD footage with a free account) and if needed old documentary footage from places like Vimeo or even UA-cam itself.
gwr is keeping 4 sets for a little while longer. feels strange that they're almost gone. in my childhood, it seemed that blue and pink hsts ruled the rails, and now the 225s are almost gone too.
I love this video so much, however the quote “britain is as capable as ever to meet a major engineering challenge” makes me quite sad. Back in the day we took pride in Britains engineering and now we are sending it all away and bringing in Japanese rubbish
Honestly I don't have all that much love for steam in general, and most of the available remastered footage covers the 70s-80s period, it's something I'm actively looking into
Another great video! Would you potentially consider making an extension of this video for the entire length of the song, if enough footage exists? Or for future videos?
I would not- My videos are generally the length that they are because footage of BR-era trains is rather scant in the public sphere, sadly much of it is locked up in archives that would demand more than a pretty penny for me to access it. @Isee3 offers content in which music plays through much longer clips, but you'll notice going forward that we're increasingly using the same source videos since there's just so little out there.
@@BritishTrainspottingDepends on the video! Usually UA-cam, though anything that's actual HD comes from places like the BFI online archive (which has lots of BR era stuff, just not the things I'm interested in)
RIP to Paxman, Colchester- the factory that made the engines in these trains. Post industrial Essex is a wasteland.
the noise was the most shocking thing about these trains, standing on the platform at didcot parkway it was like a jet engine
good vid!

This gives me major Nightmail vibes, please do a remake of that if you can!
I keep finding myself coming to this video for some reason...
When we needed him most he returned
I need me an arrows of indecision ice bucket for those InterCity cocktails...
Man I really love your videos and this vibe of loss that you capture in them, amazing. Hope you plan to keep making more.
The feels, the music, the era. Beautiful.
Genuinely a work of art, both the HST and the video
This is only the best edit I’ve ever seen. Got kinda emotional from it 😂
I'm so glad you're back!
i love these trains, never thought i'd see a video like this, but now that i have i only want more
HE IS ALIVE AGAIN WWHHEEEYYYY MY LORDZ
i really needed this video, a very dark vibe i absolutely love it

Our railways really need to be rebuilt with better alignments to support higher speeds before city expansion makes it practically impossible.
He's finally back from the newsagents with the milk i see
Bienvenidos a México Inter City 125😊
He returns, and with an absolutely brilliant video no less
The Perfect Train:
Nearly. Just those slam doors that let it down.
Just love this I can't stop watching it thank you so much
Finally a new post!
Beautiful as usual 👌
Love your videos, once again an amazing watch!
Your back :)
Amazing!
Incredible my friend.
I love these videos, please do more.
Since December no hst are timetabled in South Wales first time in ,48 years miss these sleek awesome speed machines
Yet another brilliant video!
You're finally back! Missed your channel so much, you've created some world class content, some of the best on the platform
Nice love the music! :-)
Great edit best one I’ve ever seen love these trains
Your videos are amazing, it’s cool how at least one channel makes their stuff all British Rail
Your videos are amazing! Keep it up comrade!
Lovely stuff.
I wish i was old enough to drive these.
Great video boss
very nice
The last announcement for intercity made me tear a bit
britains railways will never truly be re-nationalised until we start making our own trains again.
we need our own manufacturer again :(
Sadly, I don't think this is ever going to happen.
@@johnkelly1083 yeah, its tragic really
Very very nice video :)
Kinda cool that it stops at St. David's, that's my local!
this is so cool
Never disappear on us like that again, your videos are way too good for that
More than a train, more than an express, more than 125mph and more than a memory, those horrible 800 wont come close to a fraction of this
What a fantastic video! Makes me just want better everything for our railways. What books would you recommend on BR design?

I don't know why but the've always reminded me of them electric hair trimmers you find at the barbers. New product idea?
"Much of Britain's railway still cannott support speeds over 125mph"
Where I live no part of the railway supports speeds over 100mph
I like the typeface. Rail Alphabet?
It's either that or one of the look-alike copies!
pls upload more
Since they started replacing the Paxman Valenta Engines and the Mk3 Slam Doors, the HST’s are losing more of the parts that make them special.
Would it be possible if a similar edit to this one could be made with the 125s electric counterpart the intercity 225?

do you get the footage from old rail adverts?

Oh how intercity rail travel has fallen since the 80x thingies replaced the HST.
