    Hey man… a lot of people do these videoed. None, as thoroughly as you. Thank you for this. This video is perfect for teaching someone the different methods used for getting off the ground. I’m subscribed!! Hunting season just started in Alabama. I’m geared UP!!!

      Thanks Christian, appreciate it. I'm mainly using a climbing stand now, (Lone Wolf sit & climb), however, I think they're out of business. The summit viper is still a good climber that's on the market, but there are so many ways to get in a tree. Good luck, Alabama has some great bucks & tons of hunting land.

      @@underdogoutdoors indeed sir!! I just bought my first climber…. I cheaped out and got a GameWinner 2.0. But honestly, it seems fine!! It is sort of heavy. 29LBs I think. I’m hunting a lot of public land this year, so I want to be quick and modular. Set up, break it down, set up somewhere else. Quick and quietly. But I’ve only hunted out of lock ons, and ladder stands. Buying and researching climbers this year, led me down a rabbit hole of other things. Saddles, sticks, 6LB lock on stands. It’s all so awesome. Anyway, I got a climber, so I can hunt these woods, but this game winner climber is just the start of my tree hunting. I want the lightest, and best stuff, that’s affordable. A combination of a really simple , lightweight Lock On, with some of those V Step strap steps, is a good combination I think! What’s your favorite combo??? I need all the ideas and suggestions possible. I don’t like the saddle thing. Too difficult looking. I like the traditional things. Lock on. Climber stuff

      @@Cmtb125 I rarely use a saddle, too much movement, people love them but after using for 2 seasons, saddle is not for me unless it's the only option -I even find saddles to be possibly more dangerous since there's no secondary safety harness. The Wild Edge (V steps) are nice, but they take a long time to get good at, & they do gauge up tree's. Because Lone Wolf climbers are not available, I'd go with a Summit Viper aluminum climber, then modify it by removing the seat & replacing it with a "Hazemore" net type seat, and get good at climbing quietly with it, use "vet tape" where the cables insert into the frame to make more quiet. Summit makes a great climber, & you can find them used on ebay. You should do fine with the climber you just purchased, 29lbs isn't horrible. Out on a Limb manufacturing makes an original ultra light Loc-on duplicate on request, if you email them, for a fairly low price, I feel its one of the best hang ons ever made, that with climbing sticks works, it doesn't matter what you use, as long as you get good with it, & use a safety harness- good luck! If you have more questions, just ask.

    I love my wild edge step ladder with a tethered saddle. I think you will like your saddle. You got alot of options though!! Good video on different options!! Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Vinny. Yes, I've tried lots of things over the years- I'll admit, my favorite is the Lone Wolf sit & climb when I have the correct tree. I tried saddle hunting this season, it will take some getting used to- still feel more comfortable with climber, or sticks & hang on stands at this point, but most others prefer the saddle.

    I have been using the saddle for two years this will be the 3rd season, 69years old . You will like it, you just need your climbing system you like, i tried sticks , just to much to carry to walk and gun, wild edges steps work great . Four or five with Nadar and swaiter. Hay happy hunting from upstate NY public land hunting. Thanks for doing the video, great job.

      Thanks for the encouragement & kind words. I'm 55 & tried the saddle last season, got spotted a few times because of movement required, even though I was up a decent height. Went back to my Lone Wolf climber- still will use the saddle when the situation is good for one. I used the Wild Edge steps & like them- they do cause some tree damage where the stand offs dig through the bark on some tree's. Good Luck in NY, I hunt in Chenango county, love it there.

    Great content, man! I hunt in MD sometimes but mostly VA. You should look at tree saddles. I went to them 3yrs ago and haven’t looked back to my hang on or climber

      Thank's SeasonsChange. Just got my first saddle in from Tethrd, will practice with it in the yard. I hear VA has a great muzzle loader season during the rut.

      underdog outdoors If you’re like me, you WON’T like the saddle at first. If you put in some time though you may fall in love. There are a very few situations when I pull out my line wolf hang on but it’s mostly the saddle for me. Yes, muzzleloader comes in Nov 4th but so far I’ve just kept rolling with the Stickbow. May try out the old smoke pole this year. Good luck w the saddle! Look forward to more videos

    Once you go to the tree saddle your search will be over. I started using one and am selling all my climbers and not buying anymore hang ons. Which one did you go with? I bought the Kestral and love it and have the Tethered ordered but don’t tell my wife👍

      I have the Tethrd - just started playing with it, only worried about movement giving me away- I suppose only time will tell- most saddle users will agree with you- thanks!

      I had a saddle they are handy but with ur platform an sticks or what ever way u deside to get in the tree with, the weight is not much less than a good climber.
      Lonewolf or xop.....I can get in a climber an up a tree when ur still playing around with sticks....I found it easier to just use a climber than a saddle..without the bulf of a pack with stick banging around in an ip a tree in under 5 minutes

    Good video.
    Funny to me you use a lineman belt using rapid rails but not when you climbed up with spikes. I know, its obvious you have not gaffed out or you wouldn't be making this video.

    • @underdogoutdoors
      @underdogoutdoors  4 роки тому

      Luis, I used those same spikes exclusively for many years to hunt & hang stands when I was young. At the time I felt I invented it for hunting, 30+ years ago. I'm sure I did everything wrong & am lucky to still be here. Didn't have a safety belt, I cringe to just think about it- I should have been wearing one. In the past, I've gaffed out, gaffed my boot, gaffed my opposite leg etc... I don't use them anymore, mainly because it became too difficult to take them off & back on up in the stand. Thanks for the wise observation.
