You can now buy much more comprehensive carb kits to suit these Mikunis from Mikuni, including pretty much everything except specific tuning bits - no jets or main jet o-rings. In Australia, MikuniOz carry them - www.mikunioz.com/shop/bdst38-mikuni-rebuild-kit-ducati-yamaha-tdm850/?v=6cc98ba2045f
You sir are a genius and a savior! You nailed my rich, fuel dumping into the throat issue by pointing out the o-ring on the slider seat. Ive been pulling my hair and wallet out for weeks trying to fix it. Replaced the o-rings and its gone. Now I just gotta go back and undo all the other crap I did trying to fix it. Cheers from the U.S.A.!
Fantastic video, just picked up a 97 Monster 750. Excess gas is pouring into the manifolds and dripping from the exhaust ports. Hoping i can fix it by a simple rebuild.
Difficult to tell for sure, but it looks to me like the Slide Guides are worn. There are triangular depressions in the Corners at the lower end, and the four circular ones in the upper half. You need to measure the depth of all of them to check for wear. I can see the circular ones are still there, but can't make out the Triangular ones, so it could be fully worn out.
Hey Brad, what do you know about splitting these carbs? I have a leak on the fuel inlet and overflow (I think that's the other T-piece) T-pieces. I've bought 2 rebuild kits to give the carbs a going over while I have them off the bike and what I believe are the right O-rings and gaskets to repair the T-pieces, just wondering if there's anything (else) to look out for when splitting the carbs. Cheers in advance and great vid!
you need to remove the choke bar, and the little plastic guides clip in and out to allow it to be removed. the throttle mechanism joins with the balance adjuster screw and spring, so take note of how that is fitted. the float bowel vent t piece also has o-rings on it. undo the long clamping bolts and remove taking note of spacer location.
Great video, thank you. One quick question please, what is it you are putting on the rubber o-rings (liquid/grease) prior to assembly? Is this some form of rubber grease or silicon solution?
vary well done question having trouble removing plugs to replace o rings with out causing damage any suggestions would be helpful thanks sept 8 2020 wpg mb canada
the best video's on the Mikuni's I found; I am impressed by your knowledge and your way of working. I am trying to do my first carburator clean ever and find the idle mixture screw tight. Do you have any advice on how to get them out without ruining them (like you found others did)? Greetings from Amsterdam
Thanks for your reply, I tried WD40 for a night + heating + a fresh screwdriver, that did not work. I guess will use a left-hand drill etc. (or leave it "as is" at the current position).

this is great thanks very much, battling a fouling plug running rich 900ss atm
The two o-ring that are not by Ducati avalaible can be found by Topham, Mikuni official dealer for Germany.
Excellent as always Brad!
Any chance of doing the same with a set of FCR's - pretty please?
Greetings from the UK

I was curious about what you were putting on the O-Rings as well
rubber grease.
Is this "normal" rubber grease, or specially for use with petrol?

Hello Brad! What kind of grease did you put on the o-ring for the seat float assembly at 9mn07sec? Thank you for your time!
any grease is probably ok, but you can get specific rubber grease. just a little lube to make it slide in.
@@bradthebikeboy Thanks for the info! Awesome video by the way!

turn it upside down and fill the recess with penetrant, plus some heat is where i'd start.

Are you in Sydney? Would you rebuild my Mikuni's from a 1996 900SS? This is way beyond my mechanical skill set.
no, i'm in melbourne.
