- On todays episode we bring together our friend Manny in his Ridgeline and put it up against the mighty Bronco Sport. In our testing and opinions the Bronco Sport has been significantly a better vehicle offroad. So today we test them out at cougar buttes to really find our which of the 2 has the better offroad system…. Enjoy!

Huge respect to both vehicles (and drivers) ... wow!!!
Wow it so crazy to see both those on Bullfrog. I can't believe how capable these are. Huge props to both of these drivers. 👏👏
I would love to see a modern AWD crossover like the Bronco Sport compared against a stock old school open diff 4x4 like an XJ cherokee. Stock vs Stock, old school vs new school, "real" 4x4 vs modern tech... open diff solid axles vs IFS/IRS with traction aids. ..Love the content
this is a sick idea definitely doing it
@@TrailMilitia Actually did it. 2022 Bronco Sport Badlands no mods (yet) vs. 2001 Jeep XJ Sport, 2" Old Man Emu Lift 30" tires on 15" wheels. No lockers. The Bronco did well, but it was no real comparison between the two. Arizona rock crawling and trail running, Jeep wins crawl, Bronco just running trails wins.
Most loved...Jeep!
@@michaelnank4833 it would have to be stock for stock only real way the bronco sport lacks the clearance off the box and I know stock xjs would have the same issue
Definitely shocked how well the Ridgeline did today for a street truck.
Nice work Manny.
I'm genuinely impressed by the AWD vehicles featured on this channel. Doing stuff like this without low range seems so mad to me.
Vtec action was awesome! Great job for both drivers 👏 looked like a great day
George! You are all freakin crazy! hahahahahahaha This terrain was nuts! Teresa is just as badass as that Bronco Sport Badlands, and big props to Manny for showing what Honda iVTM4 could do, because let's be honest, 99% no one expects a vehicle on the Honda Pilot platform to do anything beyond taking kids to soccer practice :P
Absolutely this is not just about the vehicles but also how crazy the drivers are lol
One thing to point out is that the Bronco Sport has a superior traction control / brake vectoring system. It's automated and does it's job well. This prevents torque from escaping the path of least resistance and lets the twin clutch rear differential do it's job. The iVTM4 Honda doesn't have a very good traction control system up front, so without Manny's B.A.L.L. system, this wouldn't even be a contest whatsoever. The B.A.L.L. system has to be manually controlled and the automated brake vectoring system is going to work better and definitely faster than a human can think. Great Video George!
Have Teresa try launching the Bronco Sport in Normal (or track mode) with Traction control off. Use sequential shifting if possible. Typically, "sand modes" will have a gradual throttle tip in and numb initial acceleration to prevent digging the tires in. Manny and I know our quickest acceleration mode: Normal, traction control off, sport mode, and sequential shifting that upshifts when it redlines (so, it's like an automatic manual). Seems like Teresa's bronco sport had a really numb launch, and I've experienced the same thing in my Honda while in sand mode.
@@JonDZ_Adventuring that last launch she did was as good as the ridgelines it just needed some brake boost lol. I should have brought my draggy to measure acceleration with it.
@@k20z3allmotorFTW the Ridgeline Rips! We need to drag race some time, I want to see how badly you’ll dust me because my midsized Honda is weighed down.
🤯 This is unbelievable!!!!
Go Bronco & Ridgeline!!!!!!
I really enjoyed seeing both drivers do the course. Teresa you’re freaken badass!!! 👍🏽
Glad you liked it!! Thanks for watching
This definitely looks like it was an awesome day! Again both vehicles were impressive. Bummed that couldn't make it out to this one bro, definitely missed out on the live experience. However definitely another awesome episode great job bro🤙
The Bronco sport is definitely underrated. We've liked them from the start though.
George's video of Lytle creek where the stock Bronco Sport just brake vectored it way up the big ruts with no issues, was super impressive. Especially since some of the 4WD Big Broncos had some issues.
The midsized Hondas are big time underrated. Major automotive publications, like Motor Trend, default into thinking something like a CVT equipped Outback wilderness is more offroad capable.
SHOOT the Ridgeline is even more underrated lol
This is an excellent loop for awd head to head testing, nice work guys!
We agree! Glad you enjoyed it
So damn cool to see how capable these vehicles are!
Awesome! Great to see another Bronco Sport video. What a bomber the sport turned out to be.
Your channel is a great inspiration for getting out there on the trails as well as my channel. Love the content. Even when there isn’t a sport on the screen :-)
Appreciate it 🤟🏽
Thanks for the vid bro! This definitely gives me some more confidence in the i-VTM4 AWD system in my Passport. Can’t wait to get out there once I atleast have skid plates and a different wheel/tire set up. Can’t be out there on 20s with 265/45 rubber 😂
@trailmilitia
Thanks for doing these videos! I know it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it is awesome to see the progression of technology through an unbiased, real world test! Keep it up!
Thanks for watching! I’m happy you see it the way I do. Tech is getting better more option are being shown on the market and honestly I enjoy watching rigs do what people say they can’t
What an awesome video. Bronco Sport is super impressive!
It really is! It’s really comfortable and has a ton of dope features
Excellent video. It answered all my questions about the capabilities of the Bronco Sport. I am really leaning towards the Bronco Sport Bandlands. I never intend to do any rock crawling, I just want something that I can take on bad dirt roads 100 mile from nowhere and not worry about it breaking on me.
Then the Badlands is more than perfect 👍
Dude you are a great speaker!
Nice comparison of systems, both very capable while providing a comfortable ride on the street for an everyday driver.
Totally agree!
Awesome well done
I have had my Bronco Sport Badlands for a year and 30,000 miles.loving it! Took it to Moab on our way to Alaska. We didn't do anything as extreme as this, but it did perform amazing well. It barley slipped a tire. We also stopped by Johnson Valley. Just kept it on the sand, no one was there to help if we got into trouble. Later this year I will post videos of our Alaska trip including Moab and Johnson Valley.
Thats so awesome. My goal is to make it to Alaska this coming year. Johnson Valley is near me if you or anyone else gets into any trouble let me know we can always help.
@@TrailMilitia watch my 9 videos of Alaska from six years ago,ua-cam.com/video/PBmqD-DtsGQ/v-deo.html. I plan to make videos of this years trip.
I'm super impressed with both vehicles/drivers. I grew up with Honda everything, from my first CRX, to CBR 600RR and even to an NSX. Years ago I moved to a 2006 Ridgeline and fell in love with it, until gas prices went up back around 2012-2013 which is when I got my first non-Honda car, a 2013 Mini Cooper S. Once that started breaking down, I went back to Honda in the form of a 2011 Pilot Touring 4WD. Wanting to get into overlanding, sometimes I feel I should get a Tacoma/4Runner, but i really do love the feel of the Ridgeline/Pilot. Having seen this video, I think I will stick with Honda for the foreseeable future. Now I have the hard decision of picking between the Ridgeline and the new 2023 Pilot. I live in Oxnard, so I'm close to Manny. I'm gonna have to meet him one of these days.
As for the Bronco Sport, it's great to see it do this well. I too had dismissed it when I first heard they brought back both the big and small Broncos.
First and foremost I’m a Honda boy at heart also and I wished they made something a little more stout for us who want to wheel or even explore some of the unknown. I’m turkey impressed by these vehicles for sure but they still lack a little bit of ruggedness. I did hear good things about the new pilot though so good luck with your choice there if you do get one let me know would love to do a review on it . Thanks for watching
Oxnard representing 😅
Wow thats crazyy bro!
Sand mode was the problem with the sport in the fast section. It modifys the throttle input to prevent wheel spin. Should have used sport or Baja mode. Love our Sport Badlands!
we tried sport and Baja but Im sure a little heavier foot and some launching it on loose dirt would help
I'd love to see a built Subaru try these obstacles. Preferably one with a locker and x-mode. Although I think it'd struggle over those walls it'd be cool to see an AWD comparison.
Hey guys!! Love the videos. What I would LOVE to see is a Bronco Sport Badlands VS Base Bronco.
Not a bad idea I’ll have to make that happen
@@TrailMilitia HA! You Guys are my heroes!!!
They need to come to market ASAP with those bumpers and some rock sliders for the sport. Those are awesome looking. These awd systems are very impressive. When the bronco sport came out i was ok, nothing to look at, but the off road ability of that thing blew my mind... Ford nailed this awd system. The power in the ridgeline? It barely beat the sport.. Which is not a six.... If she drove a bit different, she could of beat the Honda. Come on guys.
Not a six, but it is boosted, effectively giving it more displacement. It is obviously also smaller and most likely lighter.
A sec on a 1000 ft trapping nearly 70 -80 mph is not barely beating. That’s about 8 lengths roughly. Clearly u can only stay on throttle if u have the grip and feel the confidence on the whoops. Bronco sport being much smaller and lighter might have been tougher to control at those speeds on sand
@@scottryan9414 yea I think the weight and my larger tires helped me stay on throttle more bronco sports are 3700 ish this one with the gear maybe maybe 3900 and my ridgeline is 4400 from factory maybe a bit heavier with my tires and suspension lift now
@@k20z3allmotorFTW that and I am a sucker for a J series snarl!
But yes, I think the weight and tire size were big advantages. There is a reason trophy trucks run huge tires.
Kinda a weird comparison but it was fun. Let me just say I really like my 22 Bronco Sport.
Love the Bronco's paint scheme, nice job. Might need to look a little closer at the Sport.
Good call! If you are on the market you can’t go wrong just make sure its a Badlands
Thanks!
Appreciate the love
Impressive. Both car do great and respect to the driver👏👏. Maybe next time try compare the bronco sport with the honda passport. The passport have a bit shorter wheelbase and a bit better departure angle
Bro what u think of the Maverick tremor? I have one on order just because I see how capable the Sport is! It has the same system, but longer.
Should be about the same but approach and departure will favor the Bronco but I’m going to be testing a maverick soon also
It's just underneath your good....lmfao...great video George
Ridgeline should have had a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed for bonus points.
Facts I also agree with this
How does the 4wd or awd system on the bronco work going long downhill rides where 4lo will ease up on brake overheating?
Didn’t test that but brake overheating is rare atleast in my case
Gotta get a drone for that speed run. Nice comparison though. It sucks that all the upgrades on the Bronco Sport aren't available to the public.
We had it in the air but it malfunctioned for some reason we are planning on another day out with Tina in her sport as we speak
What's the lift/suspension setup and tires on the Honda? I put Toyo Open Country IIIs on my Ridge and am thinking about lift/suspension work.
Same tires 265/70/18. lift is different lifts put together to achieve 3.7 inch lift
1.5 inch front lift spacers 1 inch rears
Custom made strut length adapters “will be offered soon”
Eibach lift springs for ridgeline
Hrg subframe drops 1 inch
@@k20z3allmotorFTW Nice! The results are impressive and look great. How's the geometry with that combination?
Big Oly paint job for the win.
Any links for Bronco Sport for suspension and bumper like this?
if you look up Baja forged on Instagram you can find them
Where are these bumpers from on the sport?! ive been looking for offroad bumpers since I bought it haha
Baja forged makes them or made it
I think you need to hold on the traction control button 10 seconds to disable it completely on the bronco sport (still doesn't do it all the way though)
I think you are correct on the bronco sport doesn’t disable completely
Any contact info so we can look into those Bronco bumpers? Asking for a me.
Lge_ctsmotorsports on Instagram
Did the Bronco Sport use any modes, like rock climb?
Yes it was using rock on the goat mode
What is the front bumper and rear bumper mods on the sport?
Baja Forged makes them
I wanna know who makes the bumper for the bronco sport!!!!
Baja Forged
Sad to see Baja Forfed just dropped and walked away from anything on the Bronco Sport. The going got tough?
I wanna see this vs an old Suzuki samurai !
Yes I have a series in March all vs series with the Bronco Sport
The Cherokee trailhawk you were hinting at isn't a good comparison here. We have a proper 2 speed ptu ( transfer case) and a mechanical rear locker. We are a true 4wd vs awd. The compass or renegade trailhawks lifted would be a much better comparison here I think. But if you wanna see what a Cherokee trailhawk is capable of check out the Colorado mallcrawlers channel. We have a lot of video of me wheeling mine and pushing it almost to it's limit
I suggested it because it’s similar size, price, and independent suspension front and rear
The engine/transmission and axle layout makes it more awd like and of course unibody
@@k20z3allmotorFTW all of those are true statements lol
Yea I’ve said that before still would be kinda sick to see if it keeps up. I’ve seen a couple trail hawks but very few drive them hard I’ll have to check you out
Would like to see if my renegade Trailhawk can keep up with this Bronco Sport👍 she was driving the S**T out of that little beast 💪
Impressive! What year ridgeline is that?
It’s a 2020 I believe
The Bronco Sport will have songs written about it! It might have the best traction control system available right now.
Just bought a 2023, thing has me excited!
Which one is more reliable?
Don’t know they both still work
A nissan frontier against a tacoma. Both on 33s...sound interesting?
That actually sounds really nice let me find a few stock boys and see what I can pull off
@@TrailMilitia Love this idea!
I have a frontier on 33s. I'm down to go heads up.
By the way george. You've really been putting out some great content please keep up the great work. Very enjoyable, informative and influential.
@@davidmorello676 send me a DM on Instagram let’s get this setup
where can i find that bumper?
Baja forged on Instagram or LGEperformance ask for Teresa
@@TrailMilitia thanks very much i have been looking for parts since forever
@@TrailMilitia are you using some aftermarket lift?
👌🤘👏👏👏
If possible bring her back and do a trailhawk cherokee
TrailHawk has low range transfer case but I would definitely love to see how it would hold up
@Trail Militia Absolutely 💯
BRah where is the Lexus RX love son ?
Like your videos. But your spotters are suspect
Let’s agree to disagree 🤟🏽
Bronco Sport Ganga :.
I don't really think that there are a lot of "classical" AWD or classical 4x4 that exist in new cars anymore. In general, an open differential doesn't really behave like an open differential of the past. A center differential also doesn't behave like a center differential from the past.
Those two facts make the four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive definitions a little bit blurry and almost all of the past assumptions wrong.
My Jeep is all wheel drive based but it can do a 50/50 split and emulate part time 4wd behavior... It can pseudo lock the center , rear and front differentials. It can fully lock the rear mechanically also.. it also has a low range and it also has 4 wheel independent suspension. The Cherokee Trailhawk is a unicorn but it is a good example of how the definitions are very blurry and the assumptions can be very inaccurate...
It was annoying that you kept interrupting her.
Sorry guys, but Audi has the best AWD system on the market 👍
Doubt it… But find someone down enough to bring it offroad and we can find out
@@TrailMilitia I'll look for someone too. I'll get in touch. You're going to be amazed 👌
@@ImSick0 I’ll grab a bronco sport as soon as you got it
Nope Ford has it, just look on youtube audi on rollers vs bronco sport on rollers and its killin it
Doing this comparison is just not realistic. Two stock vehicles would have been much better. No regular person would have anywhere close to the modes that are professionally developed and installed. Just not reality and you should have thought of this. Bummer!
Test in mud
We dont have much mud out here right now plus its real detrimental to the vehicles. As soon as snow and rain come we will be testing some mud Im sure
Counter point, who cares?
Kinda a weird comparison but it was fun. Let me just say I really like my 22 Bronco Sport.
Weird how so? Both AWD both around same price range obviously one is more truck like but this is a test for AWD supremacy. Glad you’re enjoying the sport Im a huge fan
@@TrailMilitia tire size, ground clearance, engine difference, truck vs compact. Just pointing out the obvious. That’s the kinda weird part. Not uninteresting, just completely different vehicles.
