BTDT....Here is a tiny pro tip to a tiny problem, completely unrelated to the leaks. Next time you pour out of one of the rectangular cans, hold it with the spout on the high side (maybe in your left hand) and it will pour much better with less spillage. (Acetone @ 6:35.) Seemed like a good idea at the moment, but after the epoxy leaks...never mind. Maybe pour in a 1/4" layer of quick setting stuff first?

Fill the bottom with a little ca glue and set the glue an accelerator. That should stop the epoxy from going through the entire hole.

Total Boat makes a penetrating epoxy that's pre-thinned which I have used for this exact thing. Nice to know I can also make my own with acetone. Thanks for the tip!

I was thinking if you did that sealer coat brushed over the entire surface instead of the voids and indents, it would have sealed it better and potentially stablized the wood a little bit to reduce the sag in the middle some. But im just an arm chair expert tbh lol. My favorite part though: "I'm just gonna lay in the epoxy that way I get stuck to the floor forever..." I hope it all works out and I am super stoke to see the next part of the build! You guys are awesome as always!
Not sure if you have clear space under the ceiling, but a lifting pouring bench would be pretty handy. Pour at waist height, raise it up to inspect as needed. No more laying on the floor.

If you ever need anything to hold its shape and not flex. At the table plant I work at we use a v-groove bit and create a channel in the bottom if it and put angle iron inside to keep its shape. Its Clappers Table Enterprise out of Meyersdale PA

I have done the same thing with the tyvek tape and it also leaked out everywhere
Hi guys I’m from Australia and have been using epoxy for 6 years now and the only tape I use is the green frog tape made in America ,I don’t know why but if used right I have never had a leak if you miss a hole and it leaks it will not seal the wet resin but now I fully cover my slabs and it never fails.keep up the good work mate enjoy

Projects always look great. Fun watching how the cake is made…. Never tried it, but wondering if a shot of silicone in the bottom of those holes would help hold out the leaks.
Someone needs to invent something to help prevent leaks in situations like this. 😏😏😏
I just discovered this channel and I'm enjoying binging a bunch of episodes. This episode in particular has me wondering if you could reach out to DuPont and get wider rolls of the Tyvek tape. I would imagine they could cut custom width rolls from the same stock for a fee. Having an 8" or so wide roll would let you tape up the entire bottom of a piece like this without spending a month of sundays doing it.

Beautiful wood. Should put some Painters plastic underneath when you pour to keep the epoxy off of the concrete. I've got plenty of divots on my floor from trying to scrape the epoxy off of it.

I honestly love that you show how you make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. 1) you don't stop, you keep working 2) if plan A fails, you go to plan B or C, D, etc right away. That will be a lovely table when done and I liked your flex solution. Congrats on moving closer to the shop, you should get top $$ for your current house with all the wonderful work you did in it (and the blood, sweat, & tears all 3 of you gave while doing the renos). Not sure if you guys have seen the BlackTail Studios channel, but he does a ton of river tables at the size you're looking at here. You guys might reach out to him and pick each other's brains. He's got a good handle on how to deal with the flex and has a ton of tips/tricks on how to do the resin pours to minimize color bleed, etc. Just a tip. keep up the interesting builds!

would this idea work? before u pour resin, flip the table over and (on the back/bottom side)spray on a thinnish layer of lacquer. then after that dries, THEN u flip it back over before pouring resin into the pretty side. after the resin has cured, if need be u can CNC the thin layer of lacquer off if u want to finish it in some other way. i dunno if that would actually work, but...would it?
Definitely some sketchy, squirrely sh@! going on, but I have a feeling that table will look amazing when you are done with it. Seeing how much some of that grain pops and smacks you in the face is frickin awesome. Looking forward to the rest of the vlogs on this build.
Is that jigsaw light strobing in person or is it just one of those things like filming a computer screen?
It strobes but human eye can’t catch it in person. So the blade never looks like it’s moving
I'm gonna speak for everyone else when I say WE LIKE SEEING MORE DETAILS OF THE PROJECTS EITHER IN LONGER VIDEOS OR 2-3 EPISODES OF ONE PROJECT. It's more of a how too thing and that's what ppl like myself like.

I’ve recently been shown how to comment by the Sergeant Major aka my wife but I’ve been doing some epoxy pours and I found that when filling a hole you can use aluminum flashing in place of the Tyvek tape it seals better it’s a little sturdier and you won’t have those leaks check it out see if it works for you

The acetone dissolved the glue on the tyvek tape. 😜 I use hot glue and aluminum flashing. Works for me.
just a suggestion, ive used table top epoxy for sealing holes. it cures fast and makes less chance of a leak
Well damn that's a mess lol ..I learned that lesson like you did but now when I do epoxy.. I do it in a mold with tape all over then just in case a plastic sheet( like when you paint) under.. you live and you learn .. its going to turn out great

Best tips on pouring an epoxy floor I ever saw...
You should pour out of this cans 6:39 with the hole being at the top (horizontally or vertically doesn't really matter). You can test this if you have juice or milk in such kind of packs.
Is it worth exploring/fabricobbling a drip tray (almost like your casting melamine forms) to minimise the heartbreak? Pop the chips off and make resin art ala spray paint dross turnings.

Why don't you use wood patches under the table?
Why didn't you use c-channels with slots for bolts for support?
Why did you only make a template for the glass insert when you were going to need the left and right side templates to make it fit properly?
I’ve had crevasses in slabs bleed out epoxy on the floor before too. Let them leak down, then pour a little quick set epoxy (1hr) in and let it plug the hole. Then top it up with your 72hr epoxy.
The quick stuff isn’t glass clear tho
@@John_Malecki Does it really HAVE to be glass clear, tho? You used clear instead of black so you could show that pretty grain that’s in the divots. As long as you aren’t covering up that with the quick-set, I think it would still look great. Hot glue might work, too, and then pick it out from the bottom after the epoxy sets. Or maybe try the aluminum flashing like a couple guys suggested.
Since you mentioned wanting good health you need way better dust removal.
Way back when the use to make life size wooden models of the next year changes. This was before PPE a majority of them had extreme health issues because of the very fine dust particles.

I would think were you applied the penetrating epoxy that is going to show up when you apply a finish and will clash with the rest of the wood where penetrating epoxy was not applied? Maybe I am wrong though. I play around with epoxy and wood projects, but I am no expert.
Slap some flex paste under the slab where it’s leaking and scrape/sand it off after cure.
hey guys, im no resin expert or anything but when you have holes like that where you have leaks, why dont you use a thin layer of uv resin that cures fast to clog it up and pour your regular resin on top.

Try 3m foil tape instead of the tyvek tape to seal off holes underneath.

Also keep up the good work and teaching! It helps get me out of a funk and just get down to my workshop and start creating. Im not much of an expoxy user although I did build my first table as a walnut river table on a walnut frame in a somewhat japanese style. on my channel if anyone wants to check it out... It just created so much dust and mess when sanding and flattening that i just dont want to work with it again. If I can get that respirator, maybe that'll change and i can use your total boat links lol.

FYI I dont know if you guys now this trick but white vinegar is the best for cleaning epoxy of skin and tools. Breaks it down and makes it water soluble.

Why do you use Tyvek Tape, it isn’t designed to use directly on wood, it’s designed to air and water seal tyvek wrap which is a significantly different surface than wood
