- Now that a federal eviction moratorium has expired, hundreds of thousands of renters across the country are facing the reality of losing their homes. The ban on evictions was put in place to help people who became unemployed during the pandemic.
Now that the back rent is coming due, tenants can apply for federal funds through the covid emergency rental assistance program. Producer AJ Walker and community journalist Daijah Moss report on a Detroit family seeking help after falling behind on rent payments.

My question is why are we making more babies and struggling and where is the father of these children? Parents have to be more responsible and need to be held accountable for something.
Whether or not those children and a mother who lost her job still do not deserve to be on the streets. As a mother I know she is trying her best be encouraging and less judgmental ppl please

If the same amount of energy and effort were put into education and employment, there wouldn't be much time left or incentive to keep churning out children.

How come I never see thru sad stories of young women with no children that lost their job but don't qualify for any assistance because they have no kids? It's always this women with over 9000 kids and countless baby daddies that appear on this reports.
This makes for a better sob story.
Because single people have options..you can get a roommate or rent a room. You can work day and night if you want without worrying about who will care for your child/children.. It’s much easier to get it together when you don’t have a child. That’s why the government doesn’t even look at helping people without children. If god forbid you find yourself homeless.. your just one person.. a person with children thats automatically 2 or more homeless individuals. Honestly I believe that if you can’t afford one child you shouldn’t have anymore but this is the reason they don’t care to help childless able body adults.

15 months of rental assistance, to assist far too many that didn’t need it. That’s why the rent has increased nationwide, because so many landlords were taken advantage of.

Unemployment gave a lot with incentives. Then there’s the the child tax credit. There was quite a bit of money floating out there. Just curious where the influx of money went. Also I believe a lot of folks took advantage of the rent moratorium.
Yesssss! I've said the same thing. A lot of people took advantage of the moratorium, people that actually were able to pay some (if not all) of their rent. I guess it never occurred to them that eventually that money would come due. Smh

What were these people doing with that money? Not paying their rent that's for sure. What aggravates me the most about this whole news report is these people standing out there, angry that they aren't getting the money fast enough.

But what annoys me the most about this whole news report is all of these people, holding a demonstration because they are angry that they are not receiving their monetary assistance fast enough. I'm a landlord, I have never had AC in my apartment, I barely ever turn the heat on (even when it's freezing outside), and I didn't have kids that won't be able to afford. This one here has four kids, and how many free services and schooling, and school food and how many people are required to work how many hours a week to fund her and her kids? I only feel bad for the hardworking makers, not the unappreciative takers.

People only say that argument with kids when they see black women with kids. What if this woman was married with a working husband at one time and he wither died, was jailed or left her? What if she could afford them when she had them?

If they don't pay the rent, the landlord can't pay the mortgage and the bank will foreclose on the property and the renter will still have to get out.
She worked. Then stopped when the free money comes in. Stimulus checks. Child tax credits for 4 children. One adult and 4 children right out a 1,000 a month in food stamps. I would have used my food stamps to eat. All my cash to pay my rent and electric. I would have done without anything else in order to have a place to live.

One has to ask where are the father or fathers of the children? The man or men that that knocked her up should be paying child support. A single parent household is never anything but a recipe for disaster.

Things really got ridiculous over The Pandemic. If a person refuses to pay rent, can't afford an apartment, and/or refuses to work they should either apply for a Section 8 voucher or go find a homeless shelter. Not try to live for free endlessly leeching off someone else.

I was a single mom but never got any assistance. I worked two jobs, and got a little child support. Some women won't push for child support because they'll lose government assistance. Also, if you are not in a good financial spot, use birth control because you can't afford kids at this time.

You should only have as many kids as you can financially afford if you were suddenly to be homeless or extremely poor.
That should be taught in schools. If you can't feed yourself, how are you going to feed someone else. I believe that they were brought up poor and in the system and continue for generations. Somewhere the cycle needs to be broken. Children should have both parents in the home.

Surviving check to check is not being able to afford 4 kids. Where did all the stimulus checks and extra child tax credit ( $250 per kid ) go? If she lost her job due to Covid she was elegible to get Unemployment benefits, 700 a week.

@Sagada Polk- Chez She had those kids so she could use them to get free housing and all kinds of free services. It's harder to evict kids, and everyone is mandated to feel sorry for her, so she'll get everything free. This is how they work the system. I see this all the time, as a landlord.

Beside the state intervening with relief assistance to help out these single parents; are they now going place single parents’ children into the system of foster care. I’m just observing the event and pondering on it as well. Women and children living on the street, the saying “she for the street” had two and now three meaning, the third being outside with their fruits of their womb.

Her care provider caught Covid. Last I checked that didn’t stop her from looking elsewhere. And her provider was probably sick for two weeks. Why didn’t she go back to work after that? Answer- she knew they couldn’t evict her so she didn’t bother
