Yeah they spent a long time making each encounter feel at least slightly unique which lends itself well to the format

Mip Mup VR gaming existed in the 90s.
The game Jurassic Park trespasser was clearly a game whose concept and core gameplay was indeed made for modern VR. If only the graphics were still up to scratch. Amazing for their time.

I wonder how the controls would work though, lotta key mappings.
Man, Doom 3 was made for Vr, the creepy atmosphere, interactable objects, the lighting, perfect for a vr game.....only wish there was less monster spawning closets ;(
I found that the game got better in the last third when there were more monster spawns!
@@Lord_of_Dread I did a playthrough through the game not that long ago and its true that the last few acts were more action packed, but its so frustrating as a game mechanic, the room goes dark, kruger laughs, demonic whispering and then an imp spawn infront/behind/above. I love this game but this one mechanic is something that really strains my like for this game, it gets old really fast. The game was at its most memorable when the demons slowly appeared in a preset animation (theres like 4 of them in the entire game for the imps), when they were already in a room.

Enemies spawning behind is just bad design, i always started to check behind me after i kill a couple in front just so i can avoid the cliche. That and there are enemies that will always hit you like the one that runs and hits you with a tentacle from his arm, the one that looks taken from Resident Evil 2's Tyrant.
I've had a ton of people tell me to play the Doom 3 VR mod. I really need to at some point. It seems like it'd just naturally work for it given the slower pace.

There's a standalone Doom 3 VR now!
Though I am a little late with this replay, I have to say that Doom 3 is- strangely -perfect in VR and feels as if it was made for the platform. There are some minor iffy parts with any port but if you want an almost System Shock 2-like level of horror in a shooter then play Doom 3 VR

I love how every UA-camr plays Doom, Duke3D and Quake lightning fast where my memories of those games are creeping around slow and steady and still getting killed in no time. I honestly have no idea how guys bounce into a room of "hit scanners" nail them all taking minimal dmg.
JamesEDonaldson it’s because you have to move fast in those games.
That happens after you get to know the levels, and after 2 decades of playing its not that surprising.
They can't shoot you if you're constantly moving, moving slowly gives them more time to shoot when you could be shooting them.
@@Cri_Jackal they totally can. For a hitscan enemies like shotgunners/chaingunners in Doom or Pig Cops or Enforcers in Duke it does not matter whether you move or not, whether they hit or miss is determined at a diceroll at the time of attack.
Meanwhile projectile enemy threat does not change much whether you move carefully or run like mad - you have plently of time to move out of projectile's wayeitheer way. But if you run like mad without knowing the levels you risk running right into another group of enemies with even more projectiles you'd have to avoid, making matters more complicated.
@@Cri_Jackal That's the thing, now days you can strafe, mouse aim, can see the enemies across the map and run at 400mph at 60fps, but there's no freaking way you were doing any of that when these games came out.

4 of the 6 games you've shown here have since been made to work standalone on the Quest 2 by just one team, Team Beef.

For the Garry's Mod weapons problem, the ArcVR weapons let you have more realistic weapon handling (sorta) with fully modeled guns, and the Half-Life 2 VR mod can help set up the campaign with them. Alternatively go find the Juniez weapon remodels and with a little manual tweaking of names from v_hands to c_hands (or using their world models in the VR settings menu) in your addons folder, and bam. Can't fix all that damn crashing, though.
I just made a comment on this. crap.
You need an autoexec file to stop all the crashing (link: www.mediafire.com/file/8xdmegn8o7xjv4b/repack.7z/file). The game runs pretty much perfectly on my computer now after adding it to Gmod. If you really wanna get everything out of your Half-Life 2 VR experience though, I recommend checking out Valve News Network's video about running classic HL games on VR.

You know, I can really see how Doom 3 would be great for VR. All the issues I have with it make a lot of sense in a VR experience, such as the slower pace and the way lighting is handled. I've spent years going back to it to try and see if I've changed my mind on it, and I usually do, but often for the worse. This is the first time since its release that I actually feel hyped to play the game. Thanks for the recommendation.
Glad to See your getting into more VR Stuff Finally.

I really like the fact that you can just mod some legendary games from the past and make them into literal vr games, some of them even almost feel like they were made with vr in mind.
With that being said nothing but respect to the true heroes who are modding these games and making it accessible for all of us to enjoy, really cant appreciate the vr community enough.
Best thing in Serious Sam VR is that you can play every Serious Sam game (except 2) and you can play multiplayer with people who don't have VR. I completed first game with my friend this way, it was incredible. And regarding 2 weapons/no reload - I think it's a good balance: if you play in VR you can't move as fast as normal, but you have twice the firepower.
I wouldn't say that movement speed in SS VR games would've been reduced unless you're using teleport. Sam still is flying around at 50 mph.
@@Reloaded2111 yeah but it's not that easy in VR anyway IMO
The new Half Life 2 VR mod was just released on steam. I really hope you check it out.

Shame that Half Life 1 still doesn't have a great VR mod. I'm playing through Half Life 1 VR rn and the ladder climbing is still awful (that teleporting feature is incredibly underrated), no manual reloading still, and you have to change all the VR settings outside of the actual game
There's also a Star Wars Jedi Knight VR mod with working motion controls so you can actually fight with lightsabers, it's pretty good but not amazing, some weapon models aren't fully rendered on both sides, just the one you're used to seeing in first person.
Someones working on Return to Castle Wolfenstein but there has been almost no updates to it.
The two best VR mods aside from the ones in the video are the GTFO VR mod and The Outer Wilds VR mod, GTFO mod has way more frequent updates
There's definitely some other projects out there but it's hard to keep track of because there's so many subreddits where things get posted
A mod like this would be incredible for games such as Condemned. The fights already felt pretty tense in the original, putting it in VR seems like it would make it a lot more immersive.

Damn, another reason to get a headset. I really liked Doom 3 back in the day. I think it captured the feeling and atmosphere of the original Doom more closely than the reboot.
I think it’d be well worth revisiting a good chunk of these games. Half Life 1 and 2 are their own clients now with a bunch more interactive immersive features like manual reloading and two handed weapons, along with full 3d models that aren’t hollowed out lol.

Fishbiter's GZ3Doom fork is outdated and no longer in active development (stopped at GZDoom 3.4 support IIRC, and has plenthora of bugs). The fork that is currently actively maintained and is up to GZDoom 4.1.3 (wehich allows it to run much more mods) is here: github.com/hh79/gz3doom - it's basically a continuation of Fishbiters work.
Another thing: for good experience this mod is pretty much a must - it's an universal Laser Sight that works on absolutely all weapons/mods www.mediafire.com/file/fuskyrnoarnfyzj/laser-sight-0.5.4.pk3
SuperV1234 fork of QuakeSpasm is again based on prior Fishbiter's work, and while it fixes some stuff, its author also implemented quite a few questionable changes that you can't opt out of, and which break some compatibilities with usercontent.
