    Hello everyone.
I have 4C hair and I want to start taking proper care of my hair. I have been making a lot of mistakes in the past which I want to correct. For context, my hair is not too long and barely reaches my eyebrows when stretched. It also has low porosity.
So, I went and watched some UA-cam videos and read some website articles.
Basically, I've planned a routine for a typical wash day from the information that I've gathered.
    1. Shampoo your hair.
    2. Deep condition your hair for thirty minutes to one hour. Heat can be used.
    3. Rinse it out and use a leave-in conditioner.
    4. Use hair gel if you want.
    5. You can use a light oil like Argon oil to accompany the conditioner.
Every up there is a routine for the wash day, but what routine can I use for my daily life?
I don't know how correct everything here is, but I'm still confused about some things.
    1. When is the right time to detangle my hair? Is it when using deep conditioner or when using leave-in conditioner?
    2. How often should I detangle my hair?
    3. How often should I wash my hair and should I only wash my hair with shampoo?
    4. Should I only wash my hair with shampoo?
    5. I intend to deep condition my hair every week since I have dry hair. However, how often should I use a leave-in conditioner?
    6. Should I only use a leave-in conditioner after washing my hair when wet?
    7. Can I use a leave-in conditioner in place of a moisturizer?
    7. Can I leave my hair without washing or moisturising for some days?
I know it seems long. Please bare with me as I am very confused right now.
Also, what recommendations do you have for shampoos, deep conditioners and leave-in conditioners? What products should I buy?
Lastly, any general tips you might have about black 4C hair care would be appreciated.
    Thank you for reading.

      1. You can always detangle before you shampoo, just grab your favorite conditioner (not leave in) or a product specifically designed for it like a pre poo (I will list some products below to help with that)for instance. I detangle throughout my whole wash day routine even shampooing (gently and usually after I pre poo’d to help the process go by quicker.
      2. In my opinion every wash day and or if you refresh your hair throughout the week, it all depends on your preference.
      3. Again this depends on you but I’ve been doing them at least once a week or redoing my wash day process when my hair is dry. You don’t always have to reach for a shampoo just like you don’t always have to deep condition with a protein deep conditioner as opposed to a hydrating deep conditioner. It all depend on what your hair needs. You can go for co-washing every wash wash day if you need it and clarifying (shampooing) at least once a month. I clarify basically every wash day but that is just my preference.
      4. It’s up to you, you can either choose to co wash, or clarify using a shampoo and some shampoos out their are designed to not strip your hair (moisturizing shampoos)*
      5. You should use a leave in conditioner after you deep condition every time (I recommend applying your leave-in in the shower when your cuticles are most open from the steam and heat in the shower due to being low porosity ✨. It works wonders.
      6. Yes, you should only use a leave-in on wet hair after you wash your deep conditioner (tip: some people don’t completely wash their deep conditioner out. Try it if you would like to 🙏🏾) Some products like stylers can be extremely moisturizing to where you don’t even need a leave-in but it’s good practice to apply a leave-in before styling not only because it can help lock in the moisture from the water but it also further moisturizes your hair and SETS THE FOUNDATION for styling.
      7. Yes and no. Depending on if the leave in allows you to apply it as a moisturizer for daily use will determine whether you should use it when moisturizing the hair 🙏🏾.
      8. Personally I would NOT Recommend leaving your hair un moisturized or unwashed for more than a week and a half to two weeks depending on your style. Type 4 hair tends to get dry very quickly. If we leave it in that state for let’s say 3 weeks, the hair can become brittle, matted and all of this leads to damage for example split ends, fairy knots especially for those with coily, kinky hair like ourselves. Try to leave your hair unwashed for at least a week to get your hair routined and moisture trained!
Pre-poo: African Pride Pre poo (amazing slip ‼️. Aloe Vera.
Shampoo - Melanin Hair Care African black soap, The Royal Hydration Rich shampoo, Herbal essence shampoo. African Pride Shampoo. Shea moisture Black castor oil shampoo. Camille rose sweet ginger cleansing rinse. OGX has some great shampoos as well.
Deep-Conditioners: Shea Moisture Manila Honey and Mafura Oil instensive hydration deep conditioner. Shea moisture black castor oil conditioner. Conditioner: Melanin Hair Care’s Multi use softening leave in conditioner, Creme of nature Pure Honey Dry Conditioner. Maui Moisture. Leave In’s : Melanin Hair Care Muti softening leave in conditioner ✨, As I Am leave in conditioner, mielle organics RX Hawaiian Ginger conditioner, Mielle organics Pomegranate and Honey leave in, Camille Rose honey Leave in, Mielle organics avocado hair milk.
Honorable mentions include Cantu (somewhat), Garnier fructis, African pride, and others you see you would like to try depending on your price range wherever you shop 🙏🏾✨.

@@brandonjames4325 Where do I even begin? This was such a well-detailed response and I've definitely learnt so much. I didn't even expect this and I literally had to screenshoot it for future reference.
I have some other concerns and I don't know if you can answer them though. But, I'll give it a go.
      1. Can I use SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore For Over-Processed, Chemically Treated Or Heat Styled Hair, Leave-In Conditioner Soften And Detangle Hair, sulfate free 325 ml as a moisturizer for everyday use? Or can I also use Almond oil to moisturize too? I'm asking this because I have no moisturizers.
      2. Should I comb/detangle my hair daily especially because my hair is thin and breaks easily right now?
      3. What can I use on my hair overnight when I sleep or should I just leave it bare?
      4. Lastly, I'm thinking of using rice water weekly to grow my hair and make it thick. Is that a good idea?
Then this is my main problem...
Please I need your advice. I have taken poor care of my hair in the past months because I didn't really have the knowledge about the right hair care methods to keep my hair full and healthy.
I used to forcefully comb my dry hair and comb from the root to the ends. I put a lot of hair cream on my hair as well. I didn't sleep with satin pillowcases/bonnets. I also didn't wash or condition my hair. I used body wash to wash my hair and I always washed it whenever I took a shower.
Overall, I did a lot of harmful things to my hair. My hair is 4b/c and it is low porosity. Now, my hair is extremely thin to the point that it is scary. It has also lost its thickness because of how much hair I used to lose each day due to forceful combing. I also washed it yesterday and my hair was breaking just by touching it and applying no pressure.
I need advice on how to find the remedy for this thinning and make my hair fuller and thicker again. What habits can I imbibe and what products can I use (preferably natural)
I bought some hair care products like Shea Moisture Deep conditioner, Leave-in conditioner, and Now Almond Oil. I also bought some shower caps and satin bonnets too.
I hope this isn't too much to answer. Thank you in advance.

@@invisiblestain0 honestly sounds like you should start from scratch and build a stronger foundation. I had the same problem where I didn't take care of my hair at all and I restarted a year later now my hair way fuller and healthier. Pick up some morrocan argan oil or Jamaican black castor oil to help with hair growth. I can't really speak on rice water, never tried it before.

I got a problem. Back then, I used to wash my hair every single day and I moisturized with olive oil, and my hair used to grow back VERY FAST. But, in february I shaved my head completely bald to start my hair journey where I would genuinely start taking care of my hair. I only wash every week, I oil my scalp, I wear a silk durag to bed, etc. But, it’s been 5 months in, and my hair is barely half the length it was compared to when I used to wash my hair everyday. What do I do?

    • @willtheproducer2904
      @willtheproducer2904 2 роки тому +13

IMO I think your hair is maybe growing in volume and thickness rather than just length. Better slow and healthy than fast and unhealthy. If you don’t already you should get your hair braided. If you do you shouldn’t be taking it out every week. You’re engaging with your hair too much and not letting your hair naturally grow and breathe. You should leave your hair in for at least a month and have a routine of when you take it out wash and redo it. Don’t know your hair type and porosity but I would say get some deep conditioner. You’d have to do your research on what products and ingredients are best for your hair. Good luck hope my advice works for you.
