- Sonic SatAM 16 (aka. Project Sonic 16) is a Fan Game based on Sonic 16 beta (a cancelled game) and the Sonic SatAm Cartoon.
So from doing a bit of research to what I could find, Sonic 16 was a Sonic game based on SatAm that nearly became another classic on the Mega Drive/Genesis. 7 characters are said to be featured in the game, only 5 are shown here I believe, while also 3 zones are available to play.

Through the title screen I thought it would be a bad Fangame, but this game is surprisingly good.
In case of errors I used the translator.
This whole fangame's concept seems real interesting.
The game using Sonic Spinball sound effects was more than obvious, although not as strange as it may seem. Although needs to make up its mind in using the classic ring sound or the Spinball one cause using both is weird to my ears.
Using Knothole as an introductory zone is a great idea since it's regularly the first scenario we ever see in a show's episode. Using Wood Zone/Isolated Island's tileset and Mushroom Hill's background is more than OK to me given that they're forest-themed after all.
The final section right before the zone's signpost, as janky as it may seem, is actually a reference to how Sonic enters the underground base through the same log in the comics, bouncing around the walls. Nice touch.
Then Toxic Caves from Sonic Spinball was an obvious inclusion, given that well... Spinball takes place in the SatAM universe.
The zone still using its pinball mechanics from Spinball and using the mechanical-themed zones' tileset through the series was really good too.
Mecha Green Hill Zone, on the other hand, was a kind of weird inclusion but certainly fitting for the game's setting. It's the classic zone from Sonic 1 but robotized (as seen in Sonic Chaos).
The zone using Sonic 1 SMS Green Hill's level design from Act 1-3 was clever if it was just for testing purposes.
This whole fangame seems good from start to finish, wonder if it was finished or if there is any type of plans for completion.
It takes more sense because Sonic Spinball was bassed of The american designs
If it were me, the cartoon (and the plans for season 3) would take priority over the Archie comics version of SatAM, and I would also use "Sonic the Comic", the OVA, and "Sonic Underground" (tweaked enough so it works much better with SatAM). This would give a larger selection of characters, locales, scenarios and such, making the writing of the plotline somewhat easier. That, and I _do_ like "Sonic Underground" enough to include it, and the OVA, which should've had more episodes (even if it's just for the owl character...).
EDIT - I'd also include the Mangas in this description, as it is the that would be in the minimum of the different timelines I'd mix together; otherwise I'd try mixing *all* of them together, using "Sonic Prime", "Sonic Forces / Frontiers", "Sonic Villains" (a fan movie), and "Sonic X" to do so...
"Burning Way Past Cool" would make a good title screen theme.

... Very weird title screen art. It just looks so pillowshaded. I also see sprites from Ristar, Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic 3, strangely All-star Mario tilesets??, etc., all bunched into one and idk how I feel about that. At least it doesn't have repeated bosses(or any bosses, for that matter) that most GMate-based fangames suffer from. This definitely isn't the way to go.
Your forgetting that the options background is the same as sonic spinball and a genesis controller sprite from toy story

Fun fact knuckle was going to appear in season 3 but the show was cancelled sadly
we all know knuckle a lock on bouns and not canon on this game since the game took place before sonic 3 and knuckles.
Edit: quick update knuckle was going to be in season 3 of sonic satam but season 3 was cancelled
That title screen needs a major upgrade aside from that this looks pretty good. No sign of the swatbots though which is kinds necessary in a sonic satam game.
Finally getting to see someone try to remake the canned Sonic Sat-AM game. Also the url has "FuhNNY" in it

What's the music in Knothole Zone? Sounds like it was from a Mega Drive game using the Krisalis sound driver.
Needs polishing, but this is really interesting indeed.

I would look into Sounds from the Cartoon, then not use Sonic Spinball sounds

Oof, not a great title screen. I've done a lot of sprite work in the past and I personally feel like they would have been better off stealing the title from sonic 2 and modifying Tails to look like Sally. I also don't care for the title music either.
No transparency on the character portraits on their bio screen.
Super squished zone introduction with "16-Bit" on it for some reason. Makes it feel like one of those Chinese bootlegs.
Screen is too zoomed in.
Mechanically it appears to operate like a legit Sonic game, so there's that. But it's weird to me that they were trying to say it was intended to be based on the Sonic 16 beta when the game was very different from all other Sonic titles and this one mimics the originals. It was more focused on story telling and dialog and was slower than the other games. That's the reason given for the game's rejection.

Where’s old Sega Technical Institute old logo,symbol? Gameplay should be slower paced,where’s Antoine D’Collette? Sonic is running way too much fast. Besides where’s Robotropolis Base? It should be more like beat ‘em up genre rather than 2D generic platformer. Try not using Sonic CD,Knuckles’ Chaotix game assets and rather focus in original Sonic-16 tech demo.
