I get goosebumps everytime I see his homer too. It was so special to me personally because my son was 6 and about to turn 7 and it was that year he really started to get into sports and he already had been a diehard Tigers fan for 2 seasons starting at age 5. I will never forget after Maggios swing I just remember hearing my son keep yelling DAD DAD DAD WERE GOING TO THE WORD SERIES! There was magic on his voice SD he was jumping up and down and I had tears because I realized the magic of this special moment I was able to share with my son.
My Uncle had tickets to the Tigers game in 06. Then my Grandpa died on the night of Friday the 13th. He was found Saturday morning. My Uncle Gave those tickets away. I cried all day with the family as we planned the funeral. When Magglio hit that home run, I was still crying. That was among the most emotional day of my life.
I guess best moments aren't a strict definition. This is like best moments...in gameplay? For me, the overall best moments are the moments we won the 3 championships. Then #4 would be Magglio, #5 Yzerman.
Honestly, I don't care how sick, tired, and/or terrible I was, if someone woke me up screaming that the Wings won the Stanley Cup I'd jump up and start screaming. I've been a die hard Wings fan and plan on staying one for life. LGRW
I’m from dc and I root for all dc teams except the skins because I’m a ravens fan but the American in me will always be happy when a Detroit team does well and you see the fans happy and elated. America owes so much of its wealth to that city and we turned our backs on them so the least they can have is a couple of hours to forget about how awful life can be there. I loved those 04 pistons and the scherzer, verlander tigers that kept shocking the world but coming up short. The wings just screamed American grit even if they swept my capitals. The lions... well they’re the lions lol but you get my point. They love their players there and I respect the hell out of every American still trying to bring Detroit back to prominence. America wins when you win.
Tayshaun running down Reggie Miller from behind to block would-be game-tying lay-up in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals >>>>> Chauncey's buzzer beater. Hands down. That was one of the most iconic clutch defensive plays in the modern era of basketball against one of its best players.
The Billups 3 was cool but they lost that game. Definitely better moments from the 2004 run (The Tayshaun block was probably the most iconic). Two Stanley Cup wins since 2000 not included. And the Yzerman goal was from 1996. The two lions picks are hard to argue with though.
Tayshaun block was just epic - that was the play of the year. If you wanted a Wings moment form 2000+, I would suggest Igor Larionov's 2OT goal in Game 3 vs.Carolina in 2002.
2010s was a rough decade, mainly middle to late tho, cuz we did see a lot of fun things with the Wings making deep playoff runs and having top records from 2010-2012 and the Tigers making deep playoff runs from 2011-2013
You look at the seats in the stadiums then and see how they were packed to the nose bleeds, and look at them now and see how more are empty... it just breaks my heart
I’m so glad Stafford won a Super Bowl. Regardless of what team he played for he’ll always be a lion too me. I grew up in Georgia but my family’s from Michigan and I now live in Michigan and it was so sad to see him not be able to play with Calvin Johnson and Barry sanders. Together they would’ve won so many.
Big Detroit Fan, appreciate you posting this video. But none the less this is a very innaccurate list, Tayshaun’s block should be up here and Yezermen’s goal was before 2000 so I’m not sure this is the top 10 sports moments but none the less really great moments
Matthew Stafford really took a beating for the Lions. That hit by the Browns was devastating. He’s a tough son-of-a-bitch. I’m glad he finally won the Super Bowl, with the Rams.
LOL The Stevie Yzerman double overtime goal was in 1996, that got Detroit to the Western Conference finals against Colorado, which was there first season after buying the Quebec Nordiques. For Christ's sake its featured in the beginning on Red Wings 1997 championship video.
I'm sure someone else has already mentioned this, but Steve Yzerman's 2OT goal was in 1996. Don't get me wrong, that was the single most exciting sports moment of my life (born 1978), but I'm simply saying that it doesn't match with the title.
I feel like we have been sad a long time, though I got a feeling bright days are ahead, the tigers I feel are gonna surprise everyone this year, the red wings have some young studs waiting in the wings (pun intended) and we still have to see this years draft but this new coaching staff the lions have makes me cautiously optimistic, the pistons well they just play in a league where all they care about is loading up a team with stars and the pistons aren’t that team to load up
So you have two regular season drives from the Lions on here, but not the Wings chasing a HOF goaltender with 6 goals against him in Game 7 of a conference final, and also not Darren McCarty's playoff hat trick in game 1 of that same conference final series. And the 1 Red Wings moment you included on the list for "since 2000" happened in 1996. Spectacular effort.
Nothin was better than living in detroit and being a fan when the tigers redwings and pistons were all playoff/championship teams all at once for multiple years. The good ole days
I was at four of the five, which I can't even believe because I don't go to many live games. Only missed Chancy. I was more thrilled after Yzerman's goal. I only went to that game because I had never seen Gretzky play before. He played 36 gamers for the Blues that year. He's the one that coughed up the puck and Yzerman stepped right in to score. After the game, Yzerman said that was only the second time that he had scored from that far in his entire career.
People are sleeping on the Lions, the Tigers will get better, the Pistons will be back and better in the playoffs, and the Red Wings will win a Stanley Cup soon. I may be a Philly fan but I give respect and credit where it’s due.
I got goose bumps rewatching Magglio’s walk-off. Such an iconic moment.

what a memory, thanks for sharing
I’m 🇬🇧 but I’m glad I chose to support this city in all US sports. You guys are just like family! Love ya 🥹
That drive against the Browns makes me so proud lmao
Anthony Thomas they suck
Stafford is a legend
Magglio Ordonez walk-off home run should be number one without a doubt.
It was
Uh yeah...greatest Detroit moment I can remember...
I guess best moments aren't a strict definition. This is like best moments...in gameplay? For me, the overall best moments are the moments we won the 3 championships. Then #4 would be Magglio, #5 Yzerman.
The only thing better than that was Gibson's HRs in 84, McCarty's Goal in game 4, and that's about it!
I'm proud that I was at that game. My brother and I were sitting in the upper deck first base side. His boss had 2 extra tickets we lucked out
Yzerman's goal was in 1996
It was 1997
It was '96. The series after the Blues was the loss to the Avs. The Wings won it all in '97.
You mean to tell me they had good moments? SHOCKED
Jimmy Jimmy it was 1996.
Really I thought it was 2002 hahaha so funny
I'll never forget waking my friend's parents up screaming when Yzerman scored that goal! Lol
Honestly, I don't care how sick, tired, and/or terrible I was, if someone woke me up screaming that the Wings won the Stanley Cup I'd jump up and start screaming. I've been a die hard Wings fan and plan on staying one for life. LGRW

Tom Ace you’re joking, right?
No he’s not
Was at that lions browns game. I’ll never forget that final drive. It was amazing

thank you for everything stafford detroit loves you!

agree but it happened in indiana tho not in michigan. not a detroit moment

James VanBolt Championships weren't included in this video, it says it at the start.
James VanBolt thanks for the feedback
Agreed! Definitely "Tayshaun catches Reggie" as greatest non-championship Pistons moment
Tayshaun block was just epic - that was the play of the year. If you wanted a Wings moment form 2000+, I would suggest Igor Larionov's 2OT goal in Game 3 vs.Carolina in 2002.
@@markcopeland4448 Sheed's 3 quarter court 3 against Denver belongs on this list too Pistons wise.
“Most wonderful city of Detroit” EPIC

What an awesome video. You should another video for 1980 thru 2000.
3:26 surprised Pettigrew actually caught that ball, all he ever did was drop wide open passes.
I don't think Detroit will ever have a good tight end lets hope hockenson is decent

Matthew Stafford really took a beating for the Lions. That hit by the Browns was devastating. He’s a tough son-of-a-bitch. I’m glad he finally won the Super Bowl, with the Rams.
Magglio's HR did it for me. It propelled the Tigers to their first WS since 1984.
LOL The Stevie Yzerman double overtime goal was in 1996, that got Detroit to the Western Conference finals against Colorado, which was there first season after buying the Quebec Nordiques. For Christ's sake its featured in the beginning on Red Wings 1997 championship video.
Lmao Magglio “honorable mention” behind anything the Lions have done is hilarious
I'm sure someone else has already mentioned this, but Steve Yzerman's 2OT goal was in 1996. Don't get me wrong, that was the single most exciting sports moment of my life (born 1978), but I'm simply saying that it doesn't match with the title.

Rajai hit that grand slam about 5 minutes after I got the phone call that my father died. That will forever be my favorite Detroit moment.
Yzerman's Goal - The best!
he threw this with his shoulder unhinged....greatest play ever

2006... Looks like HD wasn't widely available back then, I almost forgot about that.

The Tigers are back in the playoffs so I had to watch this
Being born & raised in Detroit this videos make me proud to be from the D
"No championships" Last clips is them becoming ALCS champs lol. Still loved the vid.
I think it's pretty easily understood that they meant no national/world championships.
For how bad the Detroit teams are this good video
I’m from Michigan so go DET
The Pistons have a lot of moments during their 2003-2008 run.
Same as the tigers
People are sleeping on the Lions, the Tigers will get better, the Pistons will be back and better in the playoffs, and the Red Wings will win a Stanley Cup soon. I may be a Philly fan but I give respect and credit where it’s due.
Hard to believe 06 was almost 20 years ago. Damn
Kenny Rogers pouring champagne on that cops head should be in the top 5 at least also.
Um this video is titled since 2000? The red wings game was from 1996
That’s my quarterback

I was at 4 of these games. Unreal
The yzerman goal was in 1996 :(
Let's go red wings
The block from Tayshaun???
1996....was that the year the wings swept my phila. flyers???
no. that was 1997 finals. wings lost the WCF to the avs. but came back the next year and got em.
@@pillarsofserpents crazy from 95-98 all finals ended in sweeps. Took until 99 Dallas vs buffalo for a competitive finals.

Magglio's 2006 walk-off home run in the ALCS should be in here over Rajai's grand slam
john proctor What do you mean? Magglio’s walk-off is number at 1 and Rajai’s Grand Slam is a honorable mention
Yzerman was 96.
Great moment though

What about McCarty's goal against philly
Well, that was for the 1997 cup final. However, since they had Yzermans 2OT goal in 1996, I guess it was fair game.

Glad they’re not including Championchips...
Gotta have the Dan Dickerson call for Magglio
Plus the Tayshaun block beats the Billups 3
@Paul Revere Yes!!!
I was at the game where Davis hot that walk off it was truly amazing
I was there in the early 90s when Tony Phillips hit the walk off 3 run shot against the Rangers. It is so awesome to be there live
IMO All Dressed are the greatest champion chips of all time
Davis’ super grandslam has got to be higher than Honorable Mention.
Since 2000. Proceeds to show a goal from 1996 haha.

@john velez yeah
Should have guessed the #1 clip for Detroit would be the #1 clip that haunts the As lol
I'm ben wallace fan and i have to say billup buzzer beater really saves pistons
Yzermans goal was 1996
How are the 2002 and/or 2008 Stanley Cup wins not on this list? Raising the Cup is a “moment”

Taysaun Prince block on Reggie Miller should get a honorable mention
What about Gibson Home Run for the Tigers
If only comerica park was that full in 2018
The QB sneak against Dallas was the most brilliant play ever. Stafford fooled the other 21 players on the field and the millions watching.

Yzerman goal was in the 90s🤔
C'mon now. Yzerman goal was in 96.
Wings over time win was the best.
Maglios walk off was on my birthday
How does that Tayshaun chase down block on Reggie not even get an honorable mention?
Should of had megatron breaking yards record over one of two game winning drives. Much more significant
