My motorcycle was stolen, within 10 minutes thieves had located the pro fitted tracker and destroyed it. I had a well hidden AirTag with speaker removed. Using that I recovered the bike with 2 hours. It was 35 miles away
Still another GPS that kinda sucks... "Hey can you stay where you're at? I need it to get GPS signal so i can track you, thief." But in all honesty, a thief will stop eventually. I will say, you need to hide these really well and use a decoy for sure. I had my ebike stolen and it had an airtag and a GPS. They must have scouted my bike to find these. Then they destroyed the trackers when they stole my bike. I never stood a chance. My best advice, hide this well, with a Power Commander sticker or some type of ECU company. Then place a decoy GPS somewhere easy to find. As for AirTags, buy the 4 pack and put two on your bike. Your AirTag will notify the thief, they'll probably find one and toss it. Then there's another. They'll probably think they're good and may not look for the tag. And on top of all this, lock your bike's steering lock. Chain it to anything and everything when parked. You need lots of redundancy to protect bikes.
The main probably is size, cost, and battery. I've had amazing trackers that were VERY quick and accurate. But they were the size of a brick. These mobile trackers are great, but when you ask for high refresh rates, you kill the battery quick. These are definitely the best out there as the tracker goes into sleep mode while your key fob is near it.
Of all types of cellular devices such as trackers or even wireless cellular security cameras (trail cams) is the app... Read reviews of a certain item that requires a app and 95% of the comments are negative because they can't get it to work properly.
I use an airtag as a decoy. I 3D printed a cover that holds my GPS. it has an internal magnetic lock and a spring that pops the door open when you hold a magnet to the corner. When you hold a magnet to the left top side it pops open, in case i need to access it. it looks like part of the bike. i also have an air tag hidden plain as day under the seat, where they will check first. they will most likely think I’m an idiot and think they are safe after they ditch the airtag. They won’t be safe. if I can’t get my bike back from them before they find that GPS, then i deserve to lose the bike. i lock my front wheel to my frame(not my crash bars) with a kryptonite chain recommended by lock picking lawyer. worst case scenario is someone loads it into a truck, and nullifies the GPS and airtag before i find them. the police will not be called. when i called the cops about my car being stolen they didn’t do shit. when my friend’s bike got stolen last year we knocked on the guy’s front door and got it back with a conversation. get a gps unit!
Nice video. Would be interested in seeing how well you could find the bike if thieves drove it in an underground carpark/basement. Assuming all GPS devices would have signal issues. The LTE might still triangulate. Still worth it.
Airtag cheap enough to put one in an obvious spot for thief to find, remove and toss, and think they're free while better hidden Moto does the real work.
If they designed it as a two way device, it would have been good if it could be put into an active mode that tracks and sends location data more frequently. It's probably a battery conservation trade-off if it's in the same mode all the time, as continuous tracking would use up the available power in short order. If it could be commanded to go into active mode by the owner when it's definitely needed, then it could sacrifice battery life for best tracking. I assume it can't take commands that way though.
All the hysterical people claiming the AirTag helps stalkers made them useless for theft recovery, and ironically real stalkers won’t use them when they can get better products.
Yup! I honestly think it’s fabricated hysteria. Does it happen? Sure. Is it happening as often as people are making it seem? Probably not. At least you can take the speaker out of the AirTag. Hopefully the thief knowing theirs an AirTag tracking them and not being able to find it easily will encourage them to dump the bike/car.
My cousin had a stalker for about a year and he would pop up random places where she was. Found out he used an airtag and hid it in her car one night. He got around and tracked her super well. I don't know if I agree that stalkers will use something better when airtags are only $30.
