This is awesome! Just picked up an 82 Gastron HPV 155. The guy says that it doesn't always go into gear so he just sold it. I am excited to diagnose and fix the issue. If you have had a similar issue, any advice is appreciated. Keep up the great work!
I also experienced a problem with shifting into both reverse and forward. Make sure you also check the timing advance linkage. There's a ball and retainer at both ends. The retainer on the top side end of mine broke and slipped out of its seat, causing the linkage to hang up. The result was I couldn't shift into fwd or reverse. I was fortunate enough to notice it during diagnosis.
Alright, so this is 2 yrs later, but I def liked the music, and I need to do this same diagnosis/repair. Plus, I get to do a tilt rebuild. I am excited about both. Thanks for the guidance on this throttle or transmission info. FYI, I have a restored 88 cc pro line powered by a 97 115 yamaha.
Excellent video and McGyver skills in repairing that throttle quadrant. So I have a problem with my 1981 140 Johnson, it was in the shop for a reseal of the gear case lower end, and now it just grinds when I pull it into the reverse position. The linkage seems to move pretty much all the way, and in fact the threads on the cable seem to be maxed out for travel, but it just doesn't quite engage. Could they have misaligned something when they put it back together? It worked before it went in the shop.
Great video I’m gonna try this on my throttle control box I’m also having a issue with my outboard johnson same as yours but it’s an 85 hp ran awesome when I first got it then year or so later it lost most of it power I went from towing wife kids friends normal lake life to bird watching all it’s good for now when I try to hit it it revs up hit boggle down right after like something is holding it back any ideas to help
Thanks for the video. Please can you tell me the cause of the problem. I removed the battery terminal while the engine was running. The alarm on throttle controls started beeping and since then, it has not gone off. In the beginning, while I was not touching anything, when I make contact, it beeps briefly and goes out. I start the engine and don't whistle anymore. Please can you tell me the problem. Where the problem arose. Thank you very much in advance for your reply.

nice trick good job. ya its better to do it yourself you save a lot of money. ive already changed the ground wire on mine in the inside of motor and replaced the lower beause the old one a gear must have broke, jammed metal on the inside and blew the case outward a little. after putting new lower in i need to adjust the reverse its engaging late and i think i need to make forward open up the carbs a little more i lost 5 mph and the reverse problem after putting a used new lower on. i think the prop is also missing a spacer because it can move back and forth a little too much so i have a couple things to make it work right. but almost there. i got the lower for 100 dollars so cant complain. since i needed one asap since i commercial fish.

I’ve got a issue Similar to this, it shifts forwarded and reverse great, but the prop locks when in reverse, I’ll take off the cable and find the sweet spot in reverse where it spins free but it doesn’t line up with the throttle box
@@xxkasperxx they might be a little part inside that’s worn out and won’t lock anymore I would open it up and see if you can find a part that’s not working properly or broken.
Well i got boat and motor at different times and used ! My trim switch was broken. I have a new one to replace it with but I do not know what wires to hook them up to . I have 3 wires with bare ends but I do not know what they go to .
Your missing a little metal plate that keeps that plastic part you fixed …it’s a small plate that sits inside the groove and screwed in place ,,likely you will have more issues unless you can keep it in place ,,,,
A people somebody know where I can buy gasket for the carburetors for that engine the right gaskets because you can buy an Amazon and eBay they wrong they leak

Andy do you use a transom saver on your motor so when you're pulling it down the road.
You're right I do usually the potholes and rough surfaces hammers that transom.
Transom saving tools are most important with 300 lb v 4. On slight build vessels!

Not sure exactly probably the same one that came with my Johnson 90 around 1982

You've missed out the little metal tag that keeps that plastic part in place ..just hope it won't slip out when your using the boat

New to boating and the shifter on my 1989 sea ray bowrider won't engage into whatever gear I put it into ...won't lock in position ...any ideas ?!
Will the shifter go all the way forward ? But it just won’t engage the engine?

Well i got boat and motor at different times and used ! My trim switch was broken. I have a new one to replace it with but I do not know what wires to hook them up to . I have 3 wires with bare ends but I do not know what they go to .

If you would have lifted the choke handle it wouldn’t have gotten caught up. That wasn’t your problem
