I think In the good old days every Airfix kit contained a small leaflet and you could claim any missing parts by sending the completed leaflet to Airfix. And they would send you the missing parts for free (or maybe only postage it was abroad).
awesome update harry, very enjoyable to see you fooling around and lifting heavy kits :D great array of kits and projects there. The Wasa is a bit scary, i have the revell version in my stash, but in all those years i haven´t dared to build it. Maybe i can team up with you once you get to your airfix wasa? :)
Thanks Michael.. I will let you know when I brave the plastic and plan to start my Wasa... the build won’t be too hard, only a few nasty injection marks on the hull to deal with... it’s all the detail painting and rigging which will take time... plus I want to make some cloth sails.
I can vaguely remember doing the Airfix Stuka 24/th scale maybe 50 years ago and for an 11 year old It was pretty good and I did it the Desert colours. I can’t remember what happened to it. Maybe buried in a landfill somewhere.😥

Hat off to you Harry, wonderful builds again mate and I do hope you will show vids on them. I am trying to do a few 1:700 ships at present. Two Japanese ships from the Battle of the Coral Sea as well as USS Lexington. I also want to do a 1:350 WW1 ship for a WW1 GB. Hi Harry, like you as a kid in the late sixties I always wanted the Airfix 1/144 Wasa (it is actually spelt Vasa), and finally all these years later (here in Oz) I bought an original 'white box' kit from that era on Gumtree, cheap as chips it was. Never assembled and everything is there. As you say the mouldings are really crisp etc. especially the stern castle mouldings. One thing Airfix didn't do when they reissued this kit in the new box like you showed, is that they don't appear to have updated the colouring of the stern mouldings. Since the original kit was issued in the 60s, the Vasa Museum in Stockholm has done much research on the actual ship and it would pay you if you have not already done it, to go the the museum site and see the colours the stern etc. were actually painted in. It will blow you mind and definitely prove a taxing process to paint the mouldings on the model, but well worth it. It is a kaleidoscope of colour! www.vasamuseet.se/en/exhibitions/vasa-model
One thing that has always fascinated me about modelling is the paints used, in particular painting a model to scale. If one was to make a 1/24 scale Spitfire and a 1/72 scale Spitfire you wouldn't use the same blend/tone of paint would you? The smaller the model the lighter the shade? Are model paints deigned at '1 to 1' if you were painting the real thing? I recall the subject of 'scale paint' in an Airfix magazine back in the 1970s, but have not seen much since. If and when you look at the link I sent you to the Vasa Museum and see the gawdy colours used, should one really be using the paint straight out of the 'can' to paint the stern etc. at 1/44 scale...?
Scale colour reduction is a product of distance, atmosphere and light. If you shrunk a car it would still be the exact same colour holiding on your hand at eye height as it would on the floor of your garage. However as an artistic interpretation when painting we rarely use solid black, things look more realistic in a dark grey... but it’s an optical illusion and artistic interpretation. Now in the world we see things mostly from reflected light. Grey tanks in a forest have green in the shadows, in the desert yellow in the shadows and beside water they may get blue shadowing. So in models we can emulate this... see my video on the effect of colour when photographing your model.
I love that shelf of models behind you! It is difficult to find anywhere like this where i live. I love airfix, i have done for 50 years! I had HMS Victory as a kid and i never finished it. Last year a friend of mine did a swap..a massive wooden and bronze kit, for a HMS Victory gift shop video..he is a retired matlot (french navy). I love all your models! Stay young mate! That stuka wow!
Arghh your a hoot man just love your upbeat vids fun fun fun awesome kits you do work for a living don't ya where the hell do you find the time for so many projects and editing then still have a life always fun to watch keep it up hilarious as always cheers!!!!!
On my list to build next year Duck... first the Greek Triera, which is an easy build, just a lot of rigging. Then tackle the Chebec with replacement cloth sails and maybe wooden masts/yards.
You need some syrup for those waffles!:) Interesting large scale kits to keep you out of trouble. Hey you should get the new Wingnut Wings 1/32nd Lancaster to compliment the other big kits. 🙂
Yes my friend Bernard must have grabbed it on sale and yes he has the full upgrade in his too. I bought a Pontos wood deck for mine, plus some turned brass barrels and a small Eduard PE upgrade. That’s enough for me to cope with.
@@HarryHoudiniModels it was an awesome deal. I was looking for the Bismarck when I came across it. I would have settled for tripitz but I didn't have the sheckels at the time lol.
My vic is plank on frame, Airfix would be plastic?, All the same I know that it will still be a bloody awesome build in your hands, look forward to seeing it.
When you retire, please don't pee in me pocket, but the one thing with plank on fame is build time, they can take years and most of all the frame work I'm hope'n that I got it right with the Vic, cause I got one ship that's hog one that's bowed and one that's banana-ed so I hope that it's 4th time lucky. ( made me own framing jig) but enough woffel just go out and get a small one to cut ya teeth on.
I was going to ask if you ever build a good old WWII Warbird like a Messerschmitt, Mustang or Spitfire. Stuka is even better, especially if it has all the bits, bobs and diddily doo dads!
Thanks Harry 4 showing us your models in progress. Are you mostly a ship modeller? I got my model tanks, half tracks, truck, ect, from BNAMODELWORLD. Modelling should be fun!!
I built a lot of ships as a kid, practically all of the Airfix 1:600 warships back in the 60’s and 70’s... since coming back to the hobby in the 21st century, I started building armour for the first time, then returned to aircraft after a 50 year break from them. But yes my favourite models would still be the ships. They are big complex builds but very satisfying to complete.
I’m sure that Studka came with an engine didn’t it? I’d like to have a copy of the instructions ( of just the build of the engine) because I have a engine out of a Studka ( 1/24 - engine only) but I have no idea what goes where on the engine, it’s all in pieces! But I want to try to put it together because I have a project for it! Anyway, good, good stuff man! Absolutely!
Yes the engine is included. Scalemates have a copy of the rebox instructions with engine assembly from section 18 onwards. www.scalemates.com/products/img/1/5/4/143154-49-instructions.pdf
I had to wait until early morning to watch this - I prefer waffles for breakfast ;) Loving that Stuka kit! I built one of those when I was around 11 or 12 years old, along with the 1/24 Bf 109 and the Hurricane. Never built the Spit for some reason... Memories of gluey finger marks and badly applied paint, straight from the little Airfix enamel tins! :D
When I first came back to this hobby around 3 years ago, it was people including yourself, Aaron Crispy Duck, Stuart Jackson etc, who both impressed me with their standard of work and were nice enough to encouraged me to push myself further and learn new stuff! Being invited into the Fokkers was definitely one of the best things to happen :) I have you guys to thank for where I've managed to get myself to these days! :D
This is the first of your vids I've seen. I'll see some more before the evening is over. I can see about a 10% overlap between your stash and mine at the small scale end of yours. My larger scale stuff is very limited. I've seen all the big Airfix kits in the box and the Stuka is far and away the best of them. The Mustang probably the weakest. I've seen some really nice build-ups of the Stuka too. Too big for me. Good deal on Airfix replacing the clear sprue, I haven't had to use their service yet but I've heard nothing but good stuff about it. Cheerio and give Bask a skritch for me.
G'day , Rons the name and I build Ships ….'The Soliel Royal' By Heller was my favorite Good to see a Aussie on here doin models My favorites are 1/8 cars
Wait ill you start building that 1/24 scale Spitfire and you have to carve the main gear out of the living plastic it has so much flash on it. Won't that be fun? That is a kit that has been popped out a few times.
Great show amigo, i have always wanted to buikd thise on wood, would you be so nice to se d me pics of the prints, so i will have something to work with, the viking would be nice gracias
Its mine and ill wash it as fast as i like..Ah sitting in bath thinking about harrys Workshop And New Kits In Normal Goodmood.I built the little riich carrier with loads of pe,and was worried about losing detail after priming\painting.But i had been given some CITADEL AIR it worked great after thinninng about 60 40.It made tamiya look like ttreacle.I remember that stuka in a different box.Its bloody hugeness stirs a memory stolen from me by epilepsy, forgot 2 years having fits.memory wiped after each fit.Imagine,i leave hospital, pop in beershop to get 4 cans of beer on credit, walk in house to be told that i havent drank for 2 years and the shop doesnt give credit anymore, new owner.WHAT!!! Thought what is she up to?My daughter convinced me,showed me unopened bottle of brandy with dust on it.Had to accept it.I HAD a problem.
We all have our obstacles to overcome... and in doing so we learn more about who we are... Scale modelling is almost a metaphor for this transformation. We learn to use a medium, maybe plastic, to create something. The process however can do far more to us than the mere building of a toy. This is the joy and healing found in the hobby.
Thanks Harry, see this box make me travel in time, into my motherland Argentina and for a little moment I see my father figure, he die in '73. You win a new sub!
Yes I too link memories with some of my models, remembering my youth in the 1960’s.. my father bought me the Airfix Warspite kit, which he had walked the decks on when it birthed in Durbin, South Africa as a boy.
that was 10 years ago, havent had a fit since.Only remembereed forgetting last fit,and forgot all rest. But i do remember a huge stuka front air intake.i have to build something other than nazi tanks though,im on a half track with 2cm AA and more pe than need,i thought id get used to painting as i go,ready for a 1st world war kit.Cheers for reply, just realized how depressing it sounded. Its not though.53 never thought id reach 21 and my grandaughter 1 yesterday. And daughter got 1st in Uni exams while pregnant! So all good, and my girlfriend who was 16 when i met her at 20 still puts up with me.
hi Harry we can get the HELLER LE-CHEBEC IN UK FROM AMAZON.THE COST IS £353.80P POSTAGE IS £2.80 @ IT SHIPS IN FROM CALIFORNIA US.IT HAS IT DOWN AS A SAILING BOAT.KIND REGARDS RICHARD UK.
I have 7 of this stuka kit from mpc airfix heller, it changed hands a lot, watch out for the rubber parts, they will attack the plastic, the older the kit the worse the rubber will attack the plastic, I changed most of the rubber wheels with after market solid plastic ones. the same error in casting on wings is carried forward on all manufactures as the die changed hands, even the brand new airfix ones same die, same problems, they never updated it the kit, in fact the new airfix has so much flash its a big problem, the older kits are much better other than the rubber problem, I love the 1/24 scale, the new trumpeter ones are large but same scale, go figure
Yes you are right about the flashy and badly fitting re-issued Red Box kits from Airfix. Where I can I try to get an old White box... better plastic and moulded so much cleaner.
Sometimes... but buying from overseas the postage kills it for me down under. Luckily here locally we have a lot of Facebook model selling sites and a few online retailers of second hand kits. I get a lot of bargains from them.
Chebec are just a type of sailing ship, mainly for trading, although some were used for piracy in the Mediterranean. So they can fly any bloody flags they want!
Many Blokes would be looking at Pornhub past midnight after returning from the Pub but I must be getting old as Harry’s tutorials are much more interesting!😎
The Aussie humor is going over everyone's head ... keep it up ... as a fellow Aussie, I love it ...
Oh well if they don’t get it then bugger em!

I was positively Stukafied by the size of those kits .
Fortunately , my shoelaces were tied tightly when you brought out the pirate ship .
My socks only rolled down to my ankles !
Excellent... it was worth me giving the warning then...
I like that you don't "do" the current and trendy kits that are hot at the moment. But the somewhat older kits. Keep up the good work.
Well I am not young and trendy anymore... I’m old and qwerky like my models
A lot of cool kits you have added to your stash. some cool stuff your working on. Keep up the great work and have a great day.
I will thanks Chopper
I think In the good old days every Airfix kit contained a small leaflet and you could claim any missing parts by sending the completed leaflet to Airfix. And they would send you the missing parts for free (or maybe only postage it was abroad).
I eventually contacted Airfix via their website for replacement parts. They sent me the Stuka clear sprue for free, just had to pay the postage.

Lol...i have one of those plastic docks as well
About time you posted an update ! love your channel.
Thanks... I will try to get one of these out each season, between build videos and tutorials
You could do the stuka in Spanish civil war colours or even the ones the Italians used so you don't need the decals.
Good idea

Could you make a swedish aircraft like the J-29 Tunnan "Barrel"?
I could make anything if I had the time
Spring? It's October, oh, you're in Australia, that explains things!
Everything is backwards in Oz! LOL
Well upside down... we are quite forwards really. :)
I built this back in the 1980's for the princely sum of £9.50.
Bargain!
I don't know, it's Saturday night and my belly is full of beer, but, I think I look these Stuka back in the seventies...I 55 now.
Yes it was a 1975 release from Airfix.
Thanks

And you were expecting?

Nope... shaved off most the beard... can’t do Santa anymore
Where I can I try to get an old White box... better plastic and moulded so much cleaner.
ebay
Sometimes... but buying from overseas the postage kills it for me down under. Luckily here locally we have a lot of Facebook model selling sites and a few online retailers of second hand kits. I get a lot of bargains from them.
excelente;
Thanks
Danish flags on Le Chebec!?!?
Chebec are just a type of sailing ship, mainly for trading, although some were used for piracy in the Mediterranean. So they can fly any bloody flags they want!
Strange..i just ordered a mask set for this one..Stuka that is..
Synchronicity Mate!
Great video ya flatulent friend of felines :)
I think that will now be my handle FFF
Many Blokes would be looking at Pornhub past midnight after returning from the Pub but I must be getting old as Harry’s tutorials are much more interesting!😎
