Actually, he IS one of the best guitarists around! There's a difference between flashy and talented, and he is talented. So much so that David Gilmour frequently has him in his band, and I think DG is a pretty good judge.
@@gil.gosseyn4786 I have seen Phil on numerous occasions with Bryan Ferry if you notice Chris Spedding does most of the more intricate work. I seen him with 801 in the 70s disappointing. But a good studio player.

I remember buying this album from Woolworths in 1975, still play it today not the best guitarist but very inventive.
