    Great! Very interesting! Useful to see the signals on the scope there and the possible cause.

    This is maybe the problem with my vcr. I screwed up alignments on p2 and p3 rollers and AC head... 😔

    What are the specifications of the scope you need.Can you use a digital scope?.Are the specifications the same for a tv.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  9 років тому +2

      Yes you can use a DSO, it will work just fine.
      The scope I have is a 30 year old 40MHz Iwatsu analog 3 channel scope.
      Nothing fancy.

      12voltvids Great.I will search for a secondhand analog scope.They are not so expensive as a digital.Thank you for your feedback.

      I have one here you can have for FREE.
      Weighs a ton though, so shipping would be a fair chunk of change.
      I got it for free, and don't need a second scope.

      12voltvids Thank you very much for the offer but i live in Holland.That would be very expensive to ship.lol

      It would cost a fortune to ship it across the city never mind half way around the world. With all the shops closing their doors these days you can probably find a free one like I did. A shop closed up, and they were literally giving away old test gear. I got an audio generator, signal generator, scope, and a fluke meter for 10.00!

      If the drum is turning and tape plays it's probably your tape path or dirty heads.

      First thing I would do is clean the heads. CLEAN THEM PROPERLY. A SMALL PIECE OF WHITE PAPER AND MINIMUM 91% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL. Add the alcohol to the paper, hold it against the drum and rotate it counterclockwise. DO NO USE A CLOTH OR QTIPS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

    I have in my workshop a HITACHI VIDEO DECK VT-39EM type of VCR with head switching problem. Did you ever meet this type of VCR before? I would like to ask your help. Did you have datasheet for the following IC's HA11736, HA11747 and Service manual for the VCR in question?

    Dear @12voltvids I have a Panasonic VCR model NV-FJ635 and even cleaning the head the image has some noise and some black spikes on high contrast mainly on subtitles. I've tried to search for a kind of short-circuit but didn't find. Please, could you tell me if this problem could be on the power supply capacitors?

      I had this ( black spikes ) with my JVC ( forgot model, don't have it anymore ). Problem was small capacitor near TDA video chip.

    Hey... I purchased a Sanyo VHS DVD combo unit 2 weeks ago and started burning DVDs ... then all of a sudden the VHS tapes don't play a good picture... sometimes no picture. I tried cleaning head tape -- that didn't work. I haven't poked around inside to clean and after watching your video, I am thinking I have a ton of debris -- so I grabbed a flashlight and looked inside and it looks like a bunch of tiny black hair pieces are all over the right side of the unit. What are your thoughts?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 років тому

      Could be a tape that the binder is bad and the magnetic coating is sheding and ending up all over the inside.

    • @robinsmart3358
      @robinsmart3358 6 років тому

      I just noticed that when I play a tape the counter doesn't move. The tape is running but lots of white and black lines throughout it and some goofy static with the audio. Any thoughts as to what I should do. I spent over $500 on this unit just 2 weeks ago.

    Hey after seeing this video I think head switching error is what is wrong with my HS-U82 but I have no idea where the head switching circuitry is located. Guessing HS-U82 has a common cap or failure of this circuit. You have any knowledge of common failure modes or where that bad cap may be on the HS-U82?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  9 років тому

      I am familiar with the comb filter problems on the HSU82. I have a video up on that model. Go look back, I overhauled it months ago.
      The U82 was the one with Dynamic tracking, and is the same machine as the Electrohome J05, which is the machine I have. Go look up the Electrohome j05 as I did a service on that machine.
