    Hi Captain, I worked the last year of Kai Tak airport in the control tower. Such a crazy but fabulous place to work. The airport had far been outgrown at that point, but still ran pretty smoothly. You would not believe how much punishment a 747 can absorb on landing! Most pilots had the turn to final mastered, but there were some very interesting landings by carriers I won't name.

    Hi captain ! I was living there near Kai Tak Airport when I was young. I still remember how noise when the plane flied above my building especially while I was talking through or watching TV😂. I loved and missed the old days and I felt all pilots were so brilliant when they were landing on here.❤

    Hello Captain Boeing! Hope all is well with you!! I knew Kai Tak was closed. My oldest brother gave me a really nice book about it for Christmas. It was still active when he gave me the book. I think it closed within the next year after I received the book. That was a really great explanation of the flight path to land there! Thanks for the memories! Sorry you never got to try it. I have read and heard about it being a very challenging airport to land at. Very interesting video! Cool checkerboard info! Be safe out/up there!! Cheers and blessings - ALWAYS!! 💕✈✈💕

    Done this approach few times and must say that after every landing I had to take a few minutes to relax.

    Hi Captain, so wonderful to hear your voice as I feel it means your safe and well and I pray your family is too. From what you say and what I've read about Kai Tak, it sounds very much like it must have been very challenging to maneuver those big planes into and out of that airport, yet what an exhilarating feeling a pilot must have had once he accomplished that very thing. I'm sure it required great skill and total focus on the task at hand and I'm also certain Captain that you would have had no problems. We're glad your safe and well.

    A precision approach which consisted of "Turn right at the checkerboard!"

    • @bsmith1164
      @bsmith1164 10 місяців тому

      The precision part ended at the checkerboard. If you weren't visual there, you still did the 47 degree turn, but commenced a go around.
