The lady next to you is probably wondering “ what the hell is this guy doing” 🤣🤣
Can confirm nah not really, I was tired though
9:44 2-3Mbps isn't actually that bad for train Wi-Fi. Not only will that comfortably allow Spotify/Tunein or other audio apps to work, it also allows UA-cam and other video services to work at reduced resolutions (e.g. 480p or lower). You don't often get that on UK trains!
Keep on rolling.
I think that if there were earlier pendolino departures I would have chosen one of those so as to not miss the scenery 🗻🗻🗻 and I also would have told my stomach to wait to have a meal in the dining car. 😋 The dining car with its starched white tablecloths looked very inviting 👍🏻
that's the best tray table I've seen so far in your videos.
That was a nice looking train interior. i was impressed by the tablecloths on the dining car tables - haven't seen that in a while (surprised to see Thai green curry on their menu as well). For spectacular Swiss scenery, I'd like to see you take the Glacier Express or the Bernina Express on a summer day, I know they're a bit touristy, but the scenery and experience would be worth it.
As always, thanks for the menu, it's very much appreciated!
Lindau is lovely. Went there on a school trip in the 1980s
Love to see operators like SBB have a proper restaurant car in their intercity/EuroCity trains rather than just bar coaches like those on TGV trains, not to mention that all TGV Inoui services from/to Paris Gare du Nord don't even have some sort of catering service.....
Your fellow passenger definitely looked a bit freaked out by you checking out the lights, plugs and seat at the start of the journey!
Hi, passenger (and girlfriend) 🙋🏼♀️ not freaked out just very very tired
@@elijade99 🤣
As an ex-Huddersfield resident now living in Scotland, I applaud your use of “outwith”.
Great video!
My regular ride, Munich to my home in St. Gallen. I agree, a visit to Memmingen is well worth it. Terrific architecture (fortunately it was not devastated in WW2 like Munich). Great cafes and restaurants.
Nice trip ... thanks for the ride.
Great mastery of the European languages Dylan! Now for your Hungarian trip ...
Great trip. And also great scenery, especially when it close to Lake Konstanz
I don’t known Lake Konstanz but Bodensee or Lake Boden is more known.
Swiss dining cars - hard to beat for a meal with a view. These sets look top notch. Thanks for sharing.
Great review of this New Pendolino
The RABe 503 is one of my fav Swiss trains.
Thanks Dylan. As always a great video. Made a really nice Birthday treat and at my age you don't get many lol. Cheers, Bob
Happy Birthday!
Nice review
Hope to see some more swiss trains in the future
As someone who lives in Switzerland you have much to discover here
That’s an impressive price for a Swiss train! I’d love to try SBB’s New Pendolinos. Great video!
Thanks!
Fantastic review. The decor and ambiance looked really impressive.
Pendolinos can sometimes go a bit a wrong I found but this looked much better
Great that SBB have a nicely laid out dining car with a good selection 👌
Can't wait to try it out myself!
Thanks 😊
normally there are more shops in munich as they are rebuilding some parts of the station
I'm so jealous planning to get out to milano this year fingers crossed.
Thank you for a great review. I too have travelled on this route, and the ETR503s are excellent. The tilting mechanism is very smooth, and certainly helps speed up the journey, despite the rather low maximum speeds that are allowed. The lateness of your train was not surprising, and it’s not helped by the single track sections either !
Nice video . Thanks
Great trip report
Thanks!
Went on this trip recently SBB really do have the best trains
I love your videos bro, keep it up
Thanks!
Great video. First time I did that trip was a few years ago when it was loco hauled and had a Swiss panorama car which I found to be far betterto admire the scenery than the RABe503's that they now use (be they quicker). In those days, the train reversed at Lindau HBf (now Lindau Insel) and had two Br218s hauling it between Munich and Lindau before handing over to a sole Re4/4 II. The first time I used a RABe503 was from Milano Centrale to Zurich HBf over the original Gotthard route.
That is so confusing
Дилан, а у меня в Москве, отменили обязательное ношение масок.))) Хорошее видео, впрочем, как всегда.
Good video Dylan. I would at least expect complementary hot/cold drinks in 1st class, so getting you to pay extra for the latte would have been a bit of a let down for me
Nice report! Surpised to see you arrived on the lower level in Zurich... thought those platforms were the domain of s-bahn & regional services...
There are two unterground parts of the Zürich HB one only for regional trains and one for mostly InterCity trains.
The "new" underground part of Zurich HB (easily recognizable by the golden ceilings) serves both S-Bahn trains as well as Intercity trains.
Finally you reviewed some Swiss Trains! :DD
I´m going to travel with this train in summer this year from Visp to Frankfurt 😀
As previously stated, it used to be loco hauled with a reverse at Lindau. Usually SBB fresh air compartment stock. Some of this is still around, although refitted as open seating and very scarsely deployed.
Back in the 80s when I first did it, the carriage doors were locked around there for border checks!
I see you came into ZH below ground in the newest bit. Congratulations on your escape. :)
SBB interior fittings are standard across a lot of their stock. Try the domestic single deck IC sets you passed a few of. You'll see what I mean.
Awesome 👍👍👍 bro very nice ❤️❤️❤️
Btw, Tilting train is always a good idea to get speedy in case your nations don't have plans for high-speed lines.
I just wanted to say thank-you. You and Superalbs (along with some others) inspired me to do my own trip report, which I'll be uploading tomorrow. I'm not sure how well it turned out, but I did my best and for a first attempt, I think I did okay.
Hi, I was #242 this morning. I watch on TV early. I don't get on the computer until evening to like & comment. I kind of mess up your numbers, sorry. I do think you're becoming a Pendolino fan. They are very modern & edgy for their age. They don't look that old.
The Woman beside you. What a killer set of legs
Thank you! 😅
what a great trip. brian d.
FFS could also be used to describe the price of the coffee!!🙂
Thanks for commenting on ride quality, because I've travelled the world looking for a smooth riding fast train. Hope I find it in Germany next September, Your show has pizzaz like no other blogger and you got style, yeahhhh!
Toilets all working: Well that's good. I not so fondly remember a trip on an Italian Frecciargento of similar type that had a severe shortage of working toilets, with long lines at the one or two that were actually open.
The only flaw these train have is actually the luggage storage. I use them quite often, and let me tell you that you won’t find any free space in the overhead rack, nor at the end of the carriage, when you’re in second class during a classic Friday evening. The space is really limited compared to the many others Swiss trains.
Appart from that, I also love these trains !
2:30 is Grundig a sponsor or what
They'd make a nice replacement for the West Coast Mainline! I can't imagine they'd fit mind.
They have nowhere near the seating capacity needed for our overcrowded railway system.
Hi Dylan, my first sort of trip report is going live in a few hours, and I was wondering if you have any advice on how to make a good report. Obviously my recording and editing gear and skills are nowhere near the standards that you have, but I'd still love to know a few tips for making a video with lower quality gear.
The line Lindau-Geltendorf was electrified only 2 years ago.
This trip makes your last one from Portsmouth to London in what they are pleased to call First Class look like the holding cell of some chav school for delinquents.
hey dylan my man great video but in my honesty i prefer the avanti westcoast pendos compaired to that you done
Each to their own, but IMHO the latest SBB Pendolinos are far superior to Avanti's.
Hello dylan could you find any difference between pendolino of Portugal & Sweden. Do reply if possible. Anyways amazing trip. Thanks for the vlog always. Keep up the good work.
Yeah, tbh, they're very different, much newer.
Haha, looking at the wifi speed test, we have the same phone xD
thumbs up
thanks for the video Dylan! in switzerland we don‘t like these trains and thats also my opinion. ride quality is bad and there is too less space for lugage, bikes or skis. you should try other trains in switzerland which are definitely better! 😉
The lady next you must have wondered what you were doing.
she's his girlfriend...
If your looking for something different in Switzerland try out the Golden express from Luzern down through Interlaken to Montreux (for Lake Geneva & it's Freddie Mercury statue)
I think you mean Interlaken - Innsbruck is in Austria.
@@buzzukfiftythree yes I do,
the carriages look like those off a class 390
Both are same structure, but different front face
Siuuuuuuuuuuum
I will be coming to Western Europe (from the States) traveling traveling through several countries. Will each country be checking to see if I have a negative Covid test upon entering?
Good grief! Six lattes would have cost more than your first class ticket! Great report, as usual. (We always see you wash your right hand, I hope your left hand gets cleaned “off camera” from time to time.)
german ticket prices vs swiss latte
Beautiful and amazing country but certainly not cheap. When we were there we paid nigh on £80 for a pizza each and a bottle of wine.
@@buzzukfiftythree Supermarkt or Restaurant bottle?
Yes, it very much does 🤣
Very interesting video. Last year these trains stopped for 30 minutes in St Margarethen because the electric train safety system in the RABe 503 Astoro units had to be switched between the Swiss and the German-Austrian versions. This can now be done while the train is moving, which has improved the overall speed. But at the moment the Swiss timetable shows only two through trains per day, although there are supposed to be six. Maybe there are engineering works somewhere. By the way, if you think Munich Hbf is grim today, you should have seen it in the 1980's!
You mean switching to PZB from St Margethen SG Switzerland to München Hbf via Bregenz Austria Voarlberg
That's right. But the stop in St. Margreten was 14 minutes, not an half hour.
@@EpicThe112 I suppose so, I don't know which system is used in Switzerland. I haven't done the trip yet, I only know it from a German-language video ua-cam.com/video/gEbOTK6RsZo/v-deo.html
@@helilebon2383 Thanks for the clarification, I got my information from a German-language video ua-cam.com/video/gEbOTK6RsZo/v-deo.html
@@bikerpaul68 Switzerland uses ETCS Level 1 limited supervision overlaid on top of Integra Signum ZUB123 & 262.
If only Alstom could of built the Pendolinos for the East Coast Main Line as they have manufactured the Class 390 Pendolinos that are used on the West Coast Main Line and are operated by Avanti West Coast (previously Virgin Trains).
pendelinos on the ECML are completely useless
@@burgerpommes2001 Yep
I gotta disagree on the comfort level. Especially when seated against the direction of travel, over winding lines, in a full second class (all are quite usual to encounter within Switzerland), motion sickness is just around the corner. I once had to go for a wander and find a new seat to snap out of it and I'm not extremely susceptible to it. I haven't had the opportunity to ride on one of the new stadler SMILE (/Giruno) trainsets that took over part of the SBB eurocity network but apparently they do have a bit better ride quality and less crampedness in second class, as opposed to these Alstom sets.
I agree that seat comfort in these trains (I like to call them FIAT Punto Binario Due) is lacking, and I would like to add the perspective of a person without tilting nausea, but with lower back pain. The bin pushes you out of the only seating position for which the seats allow, which are themselves shaped far too much. I by far prefer more neutral seats which allow for slightly different ways to sit during a long journey (cf. SBB ICN or SBB EW IV, 2nd class only, even if the heater again diminshes the comfort on window seats).
The comparison with Girunos is correct, but unfair, since Girunos won‘t tilt and can thus be built with much wider, rectangular cabin profiles while conforming to the available lightroom en route (and, well, remaining generally upright). This is the general trouble with pendolinos, as mentioned in the video.
Does that reverse in Lindau or take the third side of the triangle?
These are like Polish ones. Can you compare both? Is there any difference?
Video's score: 10
Thanks Pedro
'FFS' LOL :)
Your fellow passenger didn't seem to be very happy about you filming the seating etc. Did you have to explain to her what you were doing?
Hi, passenger (and girlfriend) here 🙋🏼♀️ I had a face on because I was VERY tired, I knew what he was doing, didn't know I'd been caught in it though 😅
Do you kniow if using Eurail Passes (1st class) Im still able to select specific seats when reserving? thanks
I'm not sure but you should be able to if you book through SBB.
I like to see the stadler giruno train. I think it's a bit better than the pendolino.
They both have their advantages, and I'm glad about the variety: While the Pendolino is a tilting train, the Giruno is better for level boarding and accessibility. On the long and winding Munich-Zürich route, the tilting is a good asset to have.
Have you already travelled with the italian new pendolino ?
Not yet

Apart from booking well forward. Are there special deals on tickets such as purchasing discounted tickets etc?
You can but usually only if you're under 18, over 60 or disabled.

OMG WTF BBQ!
Kind of obvious that there aren't that many shops when 2/3 of the station are a construction site
Not necessarily, at least to a Brit. It's pretty common for shops to be open whilst places are still under construction just with signs pointing you to a second entrance
@@elijade99 not possible when the building with the shops got demolished
@@burgerpommes2001 Yeah but you're not immediately going to know that as a tourist, therefore Dylan pointing it out still makes sense
Yes but also I think he didn't even notice the shops in the underground station

£4.35 for a cup of coffee is just extortion ....... should've been complimentary in 1st class
I want to go Zurich so bad but it is so expensive! Same with Oslo. Why oh why are the places I want to visit so expensive! Ergh
You usually take a single seat, what happened. Nice Train,
Me 🙋🏼♀️
@@elijade99 Hi Eli
Perspective. Let me share how much I paid an Uber car ( like a taxicab ) to go 3.1 miles one way to work when my car refused to start…$27.00 USD - just a hair shy of your 3 countries wide train ride!
What is the Swiss or German equivalent to Delay Repay in the UK? Or is there any compensation for delays?
There are EU regulations regarding compensation for delays over an hour on international journeys.
Great trip report, thanks! These Munich-Zurich ECEs are nearly always delayed, and, believe it or not, the blame is not on DB, but the SBB network running over capacity. If the trains arrives with more then two minutes delay in St. Margrethen, and they always do because of engeenring works in Austria (until June), they have to follow the S-Bahn until Zurich, since there is no chance to overtake it...
What did the SBB guys thought, when they designed a timetable for a train service, running through three different countries, with long streches of single track to depend on TWO minutes?
Nice trip. What beautifully clean windows. So often in UK train windows are so dirty and photography through them is less than satisfactory.
Amtrak is famous for no-see-thru dirty windows.
I heard these trains are not top quality. Heard there are lots of creeky noises onboard.

Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/njAbu-NEjUg/v-deo.html )
You're 185 cm.
S-Bahn actually does not mean "suburban train". in fact, it stands for "Stadtbahn" which mean "urban train".
A „Stadtbahn“ is not close to the S-Bahn. Per definition a „Stadtbahn“ is a tram with higher capacity which is partially on its on tracks away from the street. The S-Bahn (Stadtschnellbahn) is a suburban train style per definition as it serves the city, as well as the suburbs and neighbour towns. So Dylan is absolutely right here.
I wish we had this quality of trains in "murica" 😞
new pendolino 🤣🤣🤣🤣 it had 5 years
It's disappointing that you don't make use of the dining car. That's the highlight of the trip. Better not eat before hand. And maybe you should be more discrete about filming the other passengers.
