I was surprised to see injection molded plastic. Last I saw was everything was 3D printed with magnets included to get different options. Thanks for this unboxing.
Was very popular when with Privateer and the fell away. Will see how it is supported and how much of the range returns. Really liked the Troll Bloods range
Loved playing 2nd Ed Warmahordes back in the day until PP killed it off with 3rd Ed. Still got my Rhulic Mercs in the attic somewhere. Nice to see it make a come back and even better in plastic.
Second observation. I agree with you entirely. What colour you choose for your mini's is your prerogative. What would be funny is you put that colour scheme on the table, call it Khador still and watch it mess with the head of your opponent. 😅 The one observation I would make, above statement kept well in mind, is that you have, as many do, painted the armour panels the same colour as the clothe on the model. The wear and tear on armour would effect a variation in shade compared to material and this would make a nice contrast of its own I think.
Yep - I realised this as I painted it but hoped nobody would notice! haha - I figured the cloth and armour could be the same in my case but if I were to do it again, I'd give the cloth a different look I think.
Excellent and informative video Alex 👌👍. I've never heard of this brand of models and they look like a lot of fun. I shall go find myself a set 👏👌👍. Thanks chap 😊
Thanks for the showcase. Definitely not my thing ive never liked any mechs or transformers (this includes 40k). I look forward to seeing your other content.
I miss the days of second edition and early 3rd edition of warmahordes. The rules system always felt better and more intuitive than warhammer, every model came with its data card (with the rulebooks openly suggesting either copying them or putting a sleeve on to track damage), and the models were a joy to paint (assembling, not so much) hopefully with steamforge taking over theyll push back to pre infernals stuff. And worst case scenario at least i can get more pota of coal black and thamar black.
I'm very curious to see the new paints and how they behave - I have high hopes. I wasn't around on Warmachine back on 2nd edition - but I like that it has pedigree, and I have faith that Steamforged won't muck it up :D
They wont push back to that. Theyve stated clearly that they will go onwards like PP started. You can still use the old modles however. Gamplay however is much more akin to the end of mk2 and start of mk3, so if you liked that, i would suggest you give it a go.
I know the brand. Would need to find one of their games I fancy though. I find some of their minis don’t quite hit the mark for me. I’d like to visit their place in Notts though!

@@alexpaintstinythings you can only run them as legacy (aka legends) armies. and even then only a small handful are legal for play. anything outside of those legal for main game play, and the stuff that had a short print run at the end of MK3 hold any value.
does the jacks in the set come with options and if they do are magnets included? do any of their new jacks do? Cygnar are "america" so traitionally blue and Khador is "russia" so traditionally red although different army groups have different schemes. @@alexpaintstinythingsMost things in this game don't really have options. Even when they effectively do, they are technically different units. I didn't like that at first, but it has advantages. It allows for more thorough playtesting, and when speaking about the game you always know what loadout people mean when they name a given unit.
@@BunniRabbiyour information is far out of date. The Warjacks, at least, all are highly customizable these days. You must not have looked into the current edition of the game too much.
Finally, and ironically, I think the big problem for Steamforged Games is the pricing model. Ten models in a box with no assembly instructions, or other accessories or even a how to play for $200 Australian immediately shut down my interest in the game. Your average starter sets for other systems contain much more in figures and support materials, think Bolt Action, Flames of War and even GW for just a few examples. Also, looking at the price list for supporting kits to expand your army, bearing in mind this is a skirmish game, and the pricing if anything is higher for what is supplied. I think they need to review that one.
Yeah I think because it's HIPS, it's maybe pushed the price up - I've seen lots of good reviews of the set, and I don't mind not getting instructions (or more specifically putting them online in an app) although rules-wise I'd have liked maybe a summary sheet at least - it's not entirely a "starter" set without dice and measuring stuff - it's a tough one I guess. Thanks for the commens though! Much appreciated!
Its not really a skirmish game. The model count per army is around 30. And the boxes are actually huge value, the starter and two expansion boxes will get you to a standard size army.
From everything I’ve heard they have tried to approach it all as sensitively as possible so if they did it was almost certainly for a good reason. Steamforged are the loveliest people.
I hate people who compare other systems with WarHammer. The point is, is Warmachine a good gaming system that stands on its own? The answer is yes, that is all you need to know.
You're correct - but sadly videos that don't give a nod to the biggest system in the hobbysphere tend to do poorer, so I need to play the game a little with the thumbnails/titles - but absolutely understand. Had I a 50,000 strong subscriber base I'd be rating this on it's own merits I suspect.
@@flameknightdragonis it? Considering its 35€ sfg agains a 47€ gw for 5 man unit. Playing both, I done the math and i can get a single 2k list for 40k or full two list pairing where i have multiples of every entry in a single army. Not counting new colossals cause they are just coming out.
I don't like steam punk. Its lore is dull. It uses an app, and it's not significantly cheaper.. I played it a bit with earlier editions but it's a pass for me. I'll be sticking with Kill Team and Horus Heresy, which I'm already deeply invested in.
it uses a app so no, it's not better, it's not even an option. I played this, 3x times. It's the fiddliest, most boring game I've played so far and not worth anything. I absolutely LOVE the aesthetic and the models though, but I would proxy them to another system, cause this isn't it.
I mean I'm just in it for the painting and the minis are very nice - lovely asethetic. I don't think discounting it because it uses an app is fair though :D - I suspect after 20 years there are a stack of people who still love it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they end up doing a rulebook of some sort now that they're pushing content out. I guess they need to take the first few steps into a rich history of players quite carefully.
@@alexpaintstinythings Oh yes! In that case, this box is perfect for painting, these models are freaking AWESOME, it reminds me a bit of Corvus Beli with World of Warcraft. I would totally buy the models, just the game system that I find completely garbage :P

I had some warmachine minis, looked for how to play, but realised that in order to play i'd have to make my own tokens, since they were only in starters. So i gave it up. But if it has an app now, it's nothing special. So does 40k, Age of Sigmar, warhammer quest and other games i can't imagine right now
I am the opposite on all three points. Using the app is so much cleaner, quicker and less expensive that codicies. Plus they update the content directly as soon as it comes out and you don't need extra dice or tokens for anything. I love the model range, but it is more limited, still pretty expensive, and much less kitbash and customization friendly. The game play is the real selling point for me. I understand that there's a steeper learning curve and a lot of people are put off by that, but I love that it requires more thinking and operates in more directions with a greater variety of playstyles. Far too often I can tell you who has won a game of 40k by deployment. I love the way close combat can meander across a battlefield, and the way you can use that tactically, or bluff your opponent into defending against the wrong strategy. Risk-reward is a bigger element too, which I find entertaining, though I know people sometimes don't. The gameplay is much faster to resolve too, though I know a lot of people don't like that either, since part of the way it resolves faster is due to being more punishing toward mistakes. When I first started playing I didn't like how there weren't wargear options, but now it's a feature I look for in wargames. It really means there is less repetition in what you see on the battlefield and you build lists quicker. More of the game is played during the game, as opposed to the set up for the game. There's also a lot of simple things that aren't major selling points that just make the game design more elegant. For example, from 2nd ed on, they divided the point costs for everything by the lowest number anything cost, meaning you are adding smaller numbers when list building. Only as big as needed. It's a small thing but it shows the general design mindset of 'only as complicated as necessary'.
I played the hell out of Warmachine back in the day (Khador for life) and it was such a fantastic game, I'm really excited for a resurgence.
