I find hand raised roosters that are super friendly when younger will sometimes turn out extra agressive once they mature, because they lack any fear and then the horomones make them bold. Its sad but i never over coddle the roos. Could be similar with emu, who knows
He is an Australian wild bird not a big chicken. They are dangerous and aggressive. There is nothing wrong with that behaviour, the person keeping them captive and breeding more captives to torture us what's wrong
I worked at a large ostrich ranch many years ago. My favorite area by far was the nursery. But there came THAT day in every feathered little friend’s journey … when even the sweetest ones SWITCHED IT UP😜 It is definitely a thang with ‘big bird’ 🤦🏼♀️😆 You can see it in the head tilt when it’s time to run!!!🤣 You should’ve seen me and the kids tryna collect the eggs from the nests of the established breeding pairs. Woah Nelly!!! It was surprisingly fun yet seriously dangerous! We had long neck poles which were at times useless but also probs saved many a life I’m sure. We had to stall out our pairs … cuz once they get to a certain age, size, attitude or select a mate etc. it’s over for the shared corral! Be safe and don’t get discouraged … hormones are tricky for all God’s creatures 😂🤪
I don't know anything about emus but I do raise chickens and occasionally have issues with rooster trying to establish dominance. This MAY sound absolutely crazy?....but the best way I have found to deal with challenging roosters is to hold them down on the ground until they relax and then remain laying on the ground (showing submission) So I don't even know if you can hold him down on the ground but maybe?
It sounds like he got frustrated (re-productively) since once he was mature he had no interest in the females. The it just built up until he got to where he is now. Hopefully he will be chill again after a breeding season if you can safely keep a female with him during it. Otherwise, it might get worse This issue can happen to other birds as well as just other animals. I know for smaller pet birds there is a ton of info on where not to touch your bird to avoid causing the same issue and what not to put in their cage or to not give them access to in order to prevent it from happening.
@@tayrigglesI had to rehome two sebright bantam crosses as a child because I hand reared them and they’d fly down across the garden onto your head or shoulder 😅 it’s cute until it’s dangerous. They weren’t aggressive just needed to be in a bigger flock, mine ostracised them.
@@ellenamy9617 Parrots are one of the most well known ones to do it but other birds can have it happen too. It sucks that there isn't as much pet based info on emus out there like there are for the smaller birds because if there was then the mistake would have been easy to avoid. I don't blame them though because how would they know that could cause an issue when they've never had a traditional pet bird . (I know they see some of their birds as pets but they're not ones where this can be an issue afaik. )
Theuseless farm has an emu just like bamboo. Her emus name is Karen and she really comes up mean behind the owner. She may be able to give you some insight on why they do this. Good luck!
I think it's great that the emus have so much space to run, they are wonderful animals and always look a bit clumsy. please keep doing what you are doing because it is amazing. I also have a few ideas for names, even if they may not be the best ideas. i was thinking about COOKIE DOUGH or PEANUT. sounds pretty cute. With kind regards from Germany ❤
You are wrong. He has no idea about Emu and they do not have enough space! They are wild Australian birds that are used to roaming 1000s of kilometres and living in large groups. They are not big chickens that make good pets. He is killing them
Bamboo, he is getting ruff maybe he is finding out his strength...im not a farmer but I love watching yall and other ones as well. Gods creations are just amazing.... God bless 🙌 each of you in the precious White House on the hill in Missouri and all of your outside babies!!!❤❤
Aww I’m sorry to hear…I wonder if he misses having more space? Or wants to mate and is frustrated 🤷🏻♀️ but I pray you all are safe and are able to figure something out. God bless.
Hello, Emu’s are so funny. The baby is so cute. Name him Mathew. I hope both girls have lots of babies. I love watching your animals. Love your beautiful family, watching your children grow. Thanks for sharing 💙❤️ 🐾🐾
Really want to suggest using an old sock with the toe cut off to use to blindfold them for moving. You have less chance of losing the blindfold like you would the pillow case. Just slip it over your wrist like a braclet, grab beak, and then slide it right down your wrist and hand to over their head and eyes. This enables you to have both hands for guiding them along.
I was going to say it's Spring but that's supposed to be here lol. So Bamboo shouldn't be feeling frisky towards you, unless they are on Australia time.
He’s reached sexual maturity and is now seeing you as competition. Just like a rooster, you need to set him straight that YOU’RE the king of that castle/farm lol. Now in the past I was able to just hold the rooster on his back for like 3 minutes and they’d ALWAYS chill out after that. Hope you’re able to figure that part out! Haha best of luck friend!
Feilu, Bilu, Keru, Cherrio, Tofu, Delu, Chellu, Misho, Niko, Seeko, Timo, Panco 😅 hope these inspire a good name for the fun young handsome Star, blessings always x
Zazu is a cool name, rolls off the tongue and fits the Naming Theme. Sure looks like Bamboo was Dominance Challenging. He would see you/yours as the Alphas because of living in the home with you. I noticed he wasn't still coming after you in the bigger pasture, they were all very busy figuring out Pecking Order. Kinda need some body armour on your legs knowing Bamboo was so aggresive, those claws could tear an artery easily. Personally, I wouldn't be turning my back on them as a Best Practice. Too easy to be Blindsided
I am wondering if he has developed aggression due to his experiences with the other emus.. could he have something like PTSD? He might be confused and stressed? Hope he calms down and settles in his new space ok
@@theadventuresofsandyland4961 he might be a wild native Australian bird that belongs in the wild instead of this guys play farm ...you are correct he probably is suffering just as all his EMU will suffer. Thanks for caring, they don't belong in captivity
Bamboo reminds me of "Useless Farm"'s Karen (female emu, aggressive towards humans). Your new male could be Mr. Magoo, or Pingu (if it doesn't violate some copyright from 1986), Master Shifu (from Kung-Fu Panda)... I hope all the adult emus learn how to get along in that nice big pasture.
how do the emu's react to the snow? as someone from Australia I know they are not commonly used to extreme low temperatures, and are not commonly native to anywhere super cold either.
Sorry about Bamboo, Think he is just becoming more of an adult and getting close to breeding time. Now for the new little guy, what about the name Mewtwo, like the Pokémon. 😊
this happened to us. we accidentally fixed the problem. my husband carried in a 2x4 and hit him with it when he attacked. the board was white on one side. from that point if you carried a white stick in he would stay on the back of the field. he can gut you with those feet
We do use protection around roosters that attack. So far, Bamboo’s aggression has been sporadic, and in the large pasture he has not been aggressive towards us.
Bamboo showing his inner Kevin 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Omg your name too. That duck is something else ...
Urban rescue ranch reference 😢
Yes
Urban Rescue Ranch is the best
True!😂😂
I agree with everyone, Zazu would be a great name for the little guy!! 😁
Bamboo has just became the dominant male
Hopefully this means he’ll finally become a dad!
He reminds me of the emu named Karen from the channel called the useless farm I think. Karen is always trying to hurt her owner.
@@audiriley2663 it's kevin from urban rescue ranch. He's a rhea. And Kevin's wife is called Karen
If you have Bert and Ernie you need a Ducky. As in rubber ducky.
I like this idea of Ducky :)
Zazu from Lion King. For the new little boy
I agree 💯👍
that would be an awesome name! 😁

Sounds like Bamboo has come into his own and he's on a different mating season than the others. Possibly too many males on the farm as well
Oh no bamboo 🥲. I hope he maintains him dominance with the other emus but goes back to being kind to you guys ❤
Kazoo could be a cute name.
I love Kazoo!!
YESSSSS ELI!!!! He is a TOUGH kid. It’s been so cool to see his strength grow as he’s grown.
Definitely like Zazu for him. 😂
Wow never thought bamboo would be aggressive 😢
He is in heat.. wants to mate.. It's a common behavior when animals treat human like his mate..
He is also only just an animal so times it happens when natural instincts take over, it's a but sad but it is nature.
He is an Australian wild bird not a big chicken. They are dangerous and aggressive. There is nothing wrong with that behaviour, the person keeping them captive and breeding more captives to torture us what's wrong
Plus he is a WILD ANIMAL
I was thinking Elmo as well because either Bert is the father. Bernie, Baboo, Kazoo, Baloo,Caribou, Zazoo or Zazu
+1 for Kazoo
Baboo is just too close to bamboo. I like zazu

Bamboo is probably aggressive because of Bert and Ernie.
it's possible bamboo was turning to his instincts of a wild emu having more hostile tendacies

Emmanuel, zephyr, maverick I really think they are good names but then again you guys always pick good names 😅
I think the new pecking order and hierarchy and hormones are all stressing bamboo out. This is likely spring hormones.
I think Bamboo is establishing dominance and since you are part of the flock/pack, you are included. Could also be him protecting his girls 😎
