    New viewer here. Great list. And thank you for mentioning Benrinnes, especially as a sherried whisky. I see them as indie bottles mostly (SMWS versions the most often). Keep up the good work.

    Another solid list, hard to argue with any of them Actually seeing these lists really make me happy in the sense that we actually have really good OB whiskies out there. It's easy to get gloomy and talk about the heydays of whisky but we still have fantastic drams out there. This is a good way to celebrate them, cheers Geoff!

      Well said. Lots of great whisky to enjoy nowadays. It's easy to get cynical about whisky, but we have a lot of great choices out there. Cheers, Sertug! 🥃

    I love the Caledonia, but you're right, it is intense and something you need to be in the right mood/setting for. For me, that setting is a cool day with friends, like at Thanksgiving or Christmas. It just says "Holidays" to me.

    Yay another list from my fav. whiskytuber! I would have put Mortlach on the 'dirty list' tho. Crazy how Edradour could have made all three lists lol I agree that's nuts. That stuff is bordering on syrup! I would throw Bladnoch in the ring. Bunnahabhain also delivers a very distinctive sherried dram unlike any other, as you know. Cheers mate!

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  Рік тому +1

      Some great picks! Bladnoch wasn't even a consideration, as I tend to associate it with distillate-driven whiskies. That being said, I've had the sherried 14 and I absolutely loved it. Very unique. Bunna has a distinctive earthiness to it which absolutely would have worked here, too. Cheers Lewis! 🥃

    Am American. They do not sell the Flora and Fauna line in the United States.
    Once again, a man after my own heart. I started on Glenlivet in the scotch space around 2017 and came to realize well after the fact that I really really like their base distillate. I think it's got loads of potential. I also grudgingly respect their existing barrel program given their production size. They manage to do a lot (relatively speaking) given how many barrels they have to go through. And yeah, love their Illicit Still bottles.
    Also, it's not a craft presentation, but they have a Glenlivet 12 First Fill, cousin to their standard 12 that is a travel retail exclusive. I managed to pick that up in a regular store during the early pandemic and yeah, it too is good and far better presentation of the 12.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  Рік тому +1

      Glad to hear we're on the same page. One of my favourite house styles, actually. Absolutely love their distillate and yes... they do good cask work. My favourite "big brand" whisky!
      Shame the Benrinnes isn't sold in the States. Hopefully it breaks into your market someday. Cheers buddy! 🥃

    Hi Geoff, excellent list video. Had a few IB Glenlivet’s in first fill sherry butts, all been good. Also Glendronach deserve a shout the earlier 15’s, my bottle was from 2014, lovely olorosso matured malt.Used to be a Benriach 12 sherry wood before it was discontinued,that was a wonderful malt. And of course Benromach CS bottles, excellent whisky. Slàinte Geoff.

    Hello Geoff,
    again a very informative Video from you with a little 😜.
    My best Sherry Whisky so far was an OB of Longrow 13 Single Cask. Unfortunately it was about 8 Years ago.
    (When you could get a Springbank if you want AND for a fair Price.😅
    But Times have changed and in the last 2 Years the Best Sherried Dram i had was a 21yo Glentauchers (IB from G+M) 1999-2021 matured in a First Fill Sherry Hogshead.
    Thanks for your good Work and Greets from Germany 😎🤘

    Keep it going, Geoff!
    Maybe a "filthiest" list? To me, that's funky, farmy, dirty, sherried, and heavy on the peat, and maybe on the younger side. Just...filthy stuff. Or maybe we need a list of "naughty" whiskies, whatever that might mean.
    Perhaps a list for "farmiest" or whiskies that are just the most "funky." Maybe a nod to the best that are just youthful--those that might be the most "precocious" expressions, then. Or a list of the "most complex" whiskies? Or "most challenging"?
    Looks like you're having a lot of fun with these lists. Much appreciated!

    I believe that Springbank 12 is predominantly Bourbon matured (depending on the batch) The 15 on the other hand is always 100% Sherry matured. And, yes! Glen Garioch 15. Again Geoff, we fully agree. It is so very good and nobody never mention that one.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  Рік тому +1

      Yes it's bourbon and sherry matured. But the sherry in the 12s isn't subtle. Never said these were full sherry maturations! Glad you're a fan of Glen Garioch. Good stuff. Hope the move went well, buddy! 🥃

      Glenlivet are a fantastic distillery which produce a glorious spirit. The trouble is they make a fortune producing sub-standard stuff with low abv and maximum profit. It wasn't always thus and ten years ago the distillery Nadurra 16 ex-bourbon (bottled at cask strength) was a fantastic whisky. It broke my heart when it was reduced to a NAS. I like the Illicit Still but it's just a fop to keep us whisky nerds quiet. Independent bottles are a solid bet and Signatory have a fine history of releasing really good stuff. We must never forget that all the heavyweight distilleries like Glenlivet are still, primarily, whisky for the far more profitable blends.

    I would add Tamdhu as my got to sherry bottles these days. The batch strength is nice, but the regular 12 is often discounted to really good value prices and one I try to keep on hand to entice friends who like wine but are a little scared off by Whisky.

      Sorry for the wrong comment! The unopened bottle has been sitting here for a month - I tested it tonight and yes - 0 PX cask experience. A very pleasant sweeter line, good nose, pleasant light sweet caramel taste, with a chocolatey, coffee finish, somewhat dry and short finish. Such a nice beginner's whiskey. But 0 sherry. Probably the graphic designer who produced camke fell asleep, or just put it up as a design element, if that's what's trendy, or maybe they found a barrel that once contained PX sherry 20 years ago. Zero is on Sherry's line. It will run out once, because it's pleasant, but it's worse than PX sherry so far! SORRY!

      @@zoltanlakoyt8665 Hát este megkostoltuk 3-man - 0 PX - illatban szinte semmi, ízben 0. Szóval a PX itt csak gondolom marketing matrica - mert ilyen semmi hatással még én sem találkztam. Maga a whiskey amúgy nem olyan rossz, kimondotam finom, édes vonal, nálam savanyú világ nem igazán jött elő. illat: tölgyfa, némi alma, karamell, és édesebb aszalt gyűmis. Benrinnes alap. Ízben: édes, gyümölcsös, nagyon enyhe fűszerssége van, majd egy szárazabb csokis, kávés befejezés, kimondontan selymes. lecsengés: nagyon minimális és inkább rövid. Szóval olyan kellemes iható - jó kezdő whiskey. De a PX megjelőlés egy botrány ha úgy nézzük. (ilyen Arran 10 árkategória - lehetne max.) Ja és ebből volt 2 kiadás - szóval 2021 és 2022 - nálam a 22 van. Szóval Sherry vonalon pl.: Bunna 12 sokkal jobb vétel a német 42 eurós áron - vagy bármi más normális cucc.

    Milk the theme man, I would!😅 Funny enough the only Springbank 12 I have is the 100% Bourbon batch. I usually think of the Springbank 15 when I think about Sherried Springbank, but that's probably because I don't have those great sherried 12's. Cheers 🥃

    Great list Geoff!
    Actually Im currently looking for a nice Sherried 12 year old to replace my Aberlour 12 NCF once Im done with it so this came at a perfect time!
    I will probably go with Glen Garioch 12 next.
    I like to have a few Sherried expressions in my collection. Right now the Glendronach 18 is my crown jewel but it will be replaced by the Glenturret 12 and the Tamdhu 15 hand in hand. I know they are different from the Glendronach but I figured those two together cover a nice range from the Sherried category and the quality/value ratio more worth it to me personally. Thanks for the great list again and looking forward to the next one! Slainte 🥃🥃

      Cheers, buddy! Yeah you'll find Glenturret to be more old school and dirty, and Tamdhu will be gentler and more sophisticated. Glendronach 18 is a beauty, but you can't go wrong with those other two. As for the Glen Garioch 12, I hope you like it. Most enthusiasts seem to love the stuff. The Springbank 12. Ah. If only it were available…at a decent price. I have one opened and another for who knows when. Saw one last year in the wild for $200. I Passed. Wish I had more Ibs. The Flora and Fauna is confirmed, not sold in the states. Btw should I buy a Dailiuane ? Not sure if I spelled it correct. It’s supposedly discontinued. Got some Edradour 10 unchilfiltered and the 12 yr CS ibisco bottles. Also have unopened a Glenturret 12 2021. Missed out on the maiden release. I had it in the cart too. 😩. Anyhow good hunting out there!

      Yeah I almost feel bad mentioning Springbank stuff in these videos. Too hard to get nowadays.
      Which Dailuaine are you looking at? If you don't have access to F&F releases there, are you looking at an IB? Dailuaine IBs can be great, but of course that would depend on the release. The 16 F&F is very good. I prefer the Benrinnes, but the Dailuaine is also super unique.
      Yeah I missed out on that GlenTurret 12 maiden release, too, which I hear was the best of the lot. Cheers buddy! 🥃

    • @SaltyCuban

      @@Gwhisky Oh I didn’t mention it was F&F. Unfortunately nowadays mostly what I buy is online. The selection since COVID is piss poor. Stores that would carry anywhere from ibs macallans, Springbank 12-18, hazelburn , kilkerran, Longrow, wolfburn, bunnahabhain special releases, etc now have mostly HP, glenlivet , Glen moray , glenfiddich, Johnny Walker ,you get the picture.
      Horrendous selection. So online is where I have to go. With the dollar as usual well below the pound and many sites’ high shipping costs. Most recently Im debating Ledaig 18 ( 85£ ) vs Bunna 18. 90£. Then there’s like $25-30 shipping, and those are the reasonable sites. The more mainstream sites want to charge upwards of $50-70 shipping per bottle.

You touched on Mortlach and Edradour, which are both on my 'to buy' list thanks to you and FirstPhil, but right now, I'm in a space bind and acquisition will have to wait until after I draw down from the selection. I'm now going to have to trial the Glenturret 12, too, because I have the peated 10. I also picked up a bottle of Glenlivet Illicit Still on the basis of reviewers pointing out that this is a variant from their usual fare; it has yet to be opened. Thanks for all the enlightened input.

      Illicit Still is good stuff! The Licensed Dram is a great follow-up, as well. In fact I prefer it. Recommended if you can find it!
      As for GlenDronach, I like it. But most of what I included here has a distillate voice behind the cask influence. I find that's often lacking with brands like GlenDronach and GlenAllachie. Good whiskies, though. Cheers, my friend! 🥃

    I was going to say you're a mainstream hack but you pulled out a really nice list. Isn't it an oxymoron though? To be unique in a catagory?
    Never seen any flora and fauna here in the metro NYC area. Funny though, the Benrinnes I have is a 7 year bourbon cask.
    Since whisky is made in the cask it took me the last 3 years to even accept that sherry was any better than a mask or overcoat. The Stranahan's sherried was the worst. It might have gotten better but it really seemed like you had to push away the fruit to get to the malt.
    My reluctant journey started with the Balvenie 15 and then went straight thru the CS versions of Aberlour, Tamdhu, GlenAllachie, kavalan and a couple of Americans.
    Totally awesome! If it's done well the sensation is as intense as peat or sublte like a flickering candle in the dark.
    I do think that the signatory owned highland distillery is one that should not be named. I missed out on the one you showed here twice and on a really well priced backup Signatory 10 year old. Absolutely astonishing dirty sweet unexpected flavors.
    I have a few trophy bottles that are Oloroso matured , CS and age stated. I'm sure their uniqueness will be something. I think my next trophy purchase will be an Oloroso CS Ballechin 12 year. Its priced the way Springbank LB used to be.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  Рік тому +2

      Yeah it's easy to dismiss whisky as an overcoat. Heavily sherried isn't my go-to style, but I do enjoy it when the mood is right. For me, the best sherried whiskies aren't sherry dominated though. I'd rather see it compliment the whisky than dominate it. A lot of brands pull that balance off beautifully.
      Ballechin CS can be great! 🥃

      @@Gwhisky I have a 10 year old Burgundy matured Cask Strength un-peated from that unnamed distillery that is heavily sulfured. I have to put it in a bigger open glass to air out for a while before I can drink it. Funny thing was that I didn't notice it on the first pour, only the 2nd. Kinda like a turd trophy.

    These lists are great but if you can’t get them here in the US it is kinda hard to back what you are saying about them. I’m a scotch drinker in fact let’s just go with I enjoy all spirits. And I certainly would enjoy something new but it has to be available. I don’t watch videos on unicorns anymore I’m not going to get one so I’m not interested in what it’s like to drink let alone pay the secondary market price they are asking. My local store has a decent selection but the hard to get juice is never coming through their door. Enjoy!!

      @Gwhisky  Рік тому

      Understandable, but I can't tailor-make lists for any one specific market because availability varies so much internationally. I do try my best to talk about whiskies that are broadly available in most markets, but they won't always be accessible to everyone. Best I can do. Cheers. 🥃
