    A trick to getting the best out of this camera, Appature priority mode for everything, Wide, Macro, Video. Use your C1 and C2 settings for macro and wide, lock in your minimum shutter speed and ISO and F stop for each mode and all you ever have to do is change between C1 and C2 and zoom.
    You're right about the battery, terrible life if your doing video.

    Hi mate!
    Very good video, as always!
    Changing the resolution and frame rate is not done in the menu but just by pressing the "OK" button. There, you'll have the possibility to change it, just as you would change the photo resolution or the RAW/jpg setting. All in all, like you, I found the settings for video quite poor and in the end, using the dial to go in Video mode doesn't seem to be the best option. Staying in Aperture priority gave me the choice of at least setting this parameter, as well as the exposure compensation. Then, the "REC" button directly to start shooting.
    One thing I found very irritating is the fact that with the mode dial on Movie mode, pressing the shutter still takes a still photo. I didn't get the point of having that movie mode on the dial at all. Lastly, I agree that you don't have much room to colour correct the image but on the other hand, the macro and supermacro possibility that camera gives you is unbelievable for a point and shoot.

      Hey Buddy
      Thanks for your comment and the extra information and explanation. 🙏🏻 You seem to be THE expert with the TG6. Good stuff. 👍🏻
      I agree on the macro side of things. But if you want to record proper macro video you won't get around using a tripod I would say. Way too shaky otherwise.
      How long are you in Switzerland for and when are we going to go diving together? 😉

    Thanks again as you know I found the Isotta GoPro housing very useful. The other camera I am very interested in is TG6 and you help out again. I guess it would be even better in the Isotta housing?

    Turn off the GPS, and that might help battery life.

    Hey, i like your videos! I use the tg 6 mainly for photography but also some video both wide angle and what the tg does best, macro. The menus take some getting used to but aren't to bad once you get the hang of them. I used an olympus and a sea frog housing when i take it diving. The buttons on both are fully usable with dry gloves. I can go through all the setting I need without to much fuss. Most of the controls i need ( zoom, record video, appeture, shutter and playback) I can press with just one hand on the camera. Compared to a SLR or mirrorless houseing, the buttons would harder to use, if that's what your used too. I find i can take around 150 to 200 shots per dive and havent found the battery life to be an issue for a 60 - 70 min dive. I do turn off the camera between subjects if thats where the difference from your experience is. The cheap amazon spare battery's seem to last a long dive aswell. All in all, its a great camera for starting/ moving up from a gopro. Good value, weather, water and stupidity proof and is able to do amazing marco easily

      Thanks Sam for your detailed comment. Maybe it's just me having problems operating the buttons with my dry suit gloves. 😉
      Interesting to hear about the batteries. It seems like I really must have had some older batteries, that weren't performing that well anymore...?!

      I know this comment was one year ago but I might ask you a question. I'm confused between this cam and gopro 10 which is better for diving filming and photos

    • @MatthiasLebo

      Very much depends where your focus is. The GoPro cameras are more limiting than the TG6 in terms of upgradability. If macro is what you want to film/take photos of, grad a TG6. If on the other hand you’re looking for an all around camera that you can use on land as well, I would go with the GoPro. If you’re going to be doing a lot of photography, I think the TG6 is going to be better for you. GoPro’s strengths is video, not photo.
      They are Botha good cameras, just different. 😉
      Hope this helps a bit?!

      @@MatthiasLebo thanks for you care and answering. I think for me as I'll not use it on land because now the mobiles camera are very easy to use and I'm not that person who loves to photograph my daily events. So I think I will go for Olympus. And early will take videos underwater I never recorded any video and saw it more than once... So thank you so much your answer definitely helped me to decide.. But do you suggest another underwater camera that may be better than olympus and in the same range in price as gopro 10

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  2 роки тому +2

      Not in that price range, no. TG6 certainly is a good choice and a camera that can grow with your abilities.

    Hello Matthias - based on this video I decided to buy a TG-6 for underwater macro photography (I will use my GoPro for video). I ordered it with a tray, the Olympus housing, a 3000L Kraken ring light, and a 2500L strobe. I did NOT order filters. If I’m below 20meters, will those lights be enough for macro photography or should I get filters? Alternatively (additionally?), with those lights what white balance settings make the most sense, the built in underwater modes or one of the manual settings? Do I need to adjust white balance at all taking macro shots with those lights below 20m? I live in SE Asia so my photography is all in nice and clear tropical waters. Thank you for the videos, I’m now a subscriber!

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  4 роки тому

      Hey Michael, glad to hear that my video was helpful in the decision making process. As long as you stick to macro and are using lights or strobes, you don't need any filters. filters are only used if you can't get enough light into a scene that you're trying to capture, which shouldn't be the case when shooting macro. I wouldn't use the underwater modes if you're using artificial light. The underwater modes will add extra red to your images which you shouldn't need if you shoot with strong enough lights. I would probably go with Auto-White-Balance. But try out the different modes and see which one looks best. Have fun with your new setup. 😊

      I use a red filter that depth and my colours look a lot better. Behind the mask channel does a great break down of magenta and red filters and their use

      Hello Michael, how are you satisfied with Olympus for underwater photography? What is the picture quality compared to photograps from GoPro? I would assume GoPro cannot make macro pictures, am I right? I am using Osmo Action for underwater filming but am considering TG6 for shooting photos.

    Pretty much sums it up - as Christian mentioned you need to press OK to access the left side menu and change resolution/fps.
    I only have the TG5 but focus is definitely an issue (this is an example, on a average to good viz day in central Komodo: ua-cam.com/video/vKR3K4uWf9g/v-deo.html ) - Macro video's ok with focus peaking on, I would say it's the TG serie's stong point, but in-camera stabilisation really isn't great for video. Also there's not really not much room to play around with the video files obtained...

      Thanks buddy for your comment and the information. 🙏🏻 Yeah, I experienced similar focusing problems when there wasn't enough contrast in the frame.

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, I would generally speaking recommend the TG6 as a beginners UW camera. The thing that sets it apart from GoPros is its modular build. This camera can grow with your abilities as you get more experienced with filming underwater. If you're looking for a main underwater camera, this is a better choice than a GoPro in my opinion.

    For a videography starter what would you recommend? Olympus tg6 or any other point and shoot camera or a paralenz or any other kind of action camera?

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  4 роки тому +4

      Depends on whether or not you already have a camera that has decent film capabilities, i.e. a GoPro. If so, I would stick with that for the beginning and see how you like filming underwater. If you enjoy it, then that's the time to go and upgrade to something else.
      If you don't have any camera yet the question is will you use it solely for underwater or on land as well? If it's only underwater, a Paralenz is a good choice and very simple to use. If you want to use it on land as well, a TG6 or an DJI Osmo Action could be good candidates.
      Hope this helps?
      Cheers
      Matthias
