my biggest problem is trying to relax my index finger and not making it too straight cause its what makes my hand ache the most but its so difficult to not straighten it!
Thanks so much! Just started and nearly gave up because my left hand was paining so much. Now it’s so much easier :)
Me too. Now starting arthritis
TIP FOR IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE MIDDLE FINGER:
I’ve just started using this technique, however I found my middle finger kind of just hangs out and gets in the way.
I wrapped the yarn between my ring and middle finger instead of ring and pinky, and I can use all three fingers (middle, ring, pinky) to hold my work.
My two biggest issues with my original hold was that my index finger stuck straight out so much from holding tension that it would lock up, and that my whole hand would cramp from trying to hold tension while holding my work. This technique gives me the ability to hold tension and hold my work separately, so that my joints aren’t doing multiple things at once. I love this!! ❤
wow this is the first time the yarn holding actually made sense for me, all the other ways were either too tight or not tight enough and everything was slipping off. thank you!
Thank you for the tips!! i've been back crocheting again after not doing it for several months and my pinky kept getting cramps so fast. Im so stressed cause it hinders me finishing my project, i tried doing my projects with your tips and it helps me so much♥️♥️
Immediate relief when I tried this new position! My pinky thanks you!
My hand thanks you for this! They cramp up super easily and I like having constant high tension while crocheting and this is really helpful!
Thank you so much for creating this video! I just started learning crochet today, and I was struggling with my ring finger getting loose. Your video came to the rescue, addressing my exact issue. Your clear instructions and helpful tips have made a world of difference for me. I can already feel the improvement, and I’m excited to continue my crochet journey with more confidence, thanks to you! 🧶🙌
It is my hook hand that hurts. The whole pinky side of my hand aches all the time, and I only crochet about 30 minutes a day.
Try using hooks with a grip. I used to have the same problem, having something wider to hold onto helped. The other thing that helps is to practice, since that makes you relax more with time.
Maybe tape the pinky finger so it will stay more straight?
Same
Maybe your holding the hook too tight. Mines hurts too 😢
Thanks ,I can say that vídeo is a miracle, for me,am crocheting since the pandemic:scarves, blankets, hat, mask face, tablecloth, and my left hand is hurting so much and sleeping.I’ll try your suggestion, hope help me.
Thank you so very much! Your technique made all the difference!🎉
What a thoughtful video. Thank you so much for sharing😻
I have nice grips on my hooks which r great if you suffer from joint/ arthritic pain. They r aluminum easy to read size set of 9 hooks plus other supplies in a kit. They weren’t expensive but work great
I have recently started using a thumb sleeve. Its made of a spongy material and prevents any contact with my knuckle. It has reduced the pain from crochet I can even see that my thumb is straighter than before
Thank you! I've been trying to switch to this way of holding yarn but couldn't work it out. I just did a bunch of rows with no problems!!! Now my knuckle should stop hurting 🥰🥰
And *still* no one seems to hold their left hand yarn (working yarn) the way I do, which is how my grandmother taught me when I was 7. This "index finger sticking out" method is just weird to me ... looks awfully un-ergonomic, imho. My yarn simply goes over the index, under the middle, over the ring, and under the pinky finger. Left hand holds the work lightly; to release tension when yarning over, the left hand gently flicks open and then shut again. Easy peasy and no hand pain at all.
Could you post a visual please 😅. Visual learner here lol
Can You show IT?
honestly i got tendonitis from knitting but as i crochet a lot more i need to learn how to hold my yarn so that i can prevent it from happening again
It’s not my yarn hand that hurts but the hook hand. I can even hear the sinews in my hand clicking as I twist the hook about
I hold my hook like a pen and taught by the nuns never have sore fingers. The Patons books years ago shows you correct way to hold yarn as well.
Just wrap it around your index finger once. Then you don't have to have so many fingers involved. Start the yarn the same as this demonstration and go around the index once. I don't have cramps anymore.
I'm going to give this a try, but 9 years of habit might be hard to adjust. I weave the yarn over my fingers and then it ends going over my pointer. But I am hypermobile and hyperextend my fingers at times. I'm used to this but it could be good to try this and find a less stressful way to hold my yarn. I hold my hook same as you and do my chains similar as well. My main issue is pain in my right hand, it comes and goes no matter what I do.
I also have hypermobile syndrome!! Did this video help you? Im worried about harming my finger joints.. my pointer finger is very inflamed after a few hours of crocheting
@@urmum1851 I'm sorry to hear we have this in common. I try to take breaks and I don't crochet long if my hands are hurting. I haven't tried this yet because I found the video right before I hurt my hand and took 2 weeks off crochet. I have been looking at ring splints and compression gloves as possible ways to help my hand hypermobility.
My hook doesn't give me any issues. It's my thumb that hurts. The one I use to hold the project.
Do you need a larger grip on your hooks? I have rheumatoid arthritis I may have to find do the same but I like my cheap crochet hooks that have a special grip for people with arthritis that’s how they they advertise them. 9 hooks stitch markers etc from Amazon
I don't know if you're still around. I'm going to try your way of holding the working yarn in the left hand. My problem is my last two fingers bending down. I'm hoping that holding the fabric with my thumb and last two fingers will solve my problem. What do you think?
Actually I am having pain in the left ring finger and pinky finger and palm just at the baseof left ring finger,as they are always bent while doing crochet. Please let me know of any thimble like ones that can keep the fingers straight
So now not only one finger is cramping 2 fingers are
My middle finger hurts between the first bend to the knuckle from the tip of my finger OMG I woke up in so much pain but it’s the hand I hold the needle with not the work
Thanks for your helpful hint. My problem is I have a forever blister on the thumb that I hold my crochet hook. How can I prevent from having a blister. What can I put on it? Much thanks for your help.
Put a bandaid or bandage on it may protect it
Thanks many thanks 👍👍❤️🙏🏻
