welcome back , thanks for the great tips. I have a friend that are a metalworker , i think we will both do a safety razor in swedish steel. Also a straight razor in hard carbon steel with steel handle.
You sold me on the Koraat, so I now have two of Ulrik’s 14 2.0 razors! You are right, that’s a badass razor. Thanks for sharing and man I’m glad you’re back online! Best
That’s just crazy, anyone with the skills to make a straight razor should easily be able to put a little checking on the tang. Very cool idea. Maybe we can get Les Baer to do it.
Nice shave Matt. I'm with you on the Fine shaving soap and aftershave splash. I'll have to try the new barbershop soap and splash because most of the time I go with Floid. Sounds like a winning combination. By the way, was that you timing Max Michel at the beginning of the video? 🙂 Got SIG?
Doc Matt, long time I don't watched you and first thing I see is you practice for plastic surgery, nice technique for rhinoplasty by .45acp with a sterilized 1911.
Great video Matt glad to see you back . Ulrik truly makes great razors . I've experienced exactly like you where I just couldn't hit the sweet spot in the smoothness. . Sharpness was easy just I wanted more comfortable edge . I'll definitely reduce stropping maybe even just leather no linen.
It seems to me that what used to be linen or fire hose was once upon a time made from cotton, but that has been replaced on a lot of strops by nylon or plastic. Stropping on leather or a balsa pasted one is all i do now, because on leather it sounds 'shh', 'shh', but on what passes for fire hose these days it's louder - more like 'zip' and i just think it's damaging to the edge. My honing skills are such that when i do get a decent edge, it's taken me a long time and usually a good deal of swearing, so i like to look after them! Koraat make some of the best razors and he's a wizard with that - imagine how hard it is to grind a bellied hollow. A bit of knurling would be easy! T
wow that is cool pity to because i think it’s a great idea . although i never have had one slip the concept is sound because i have some with and some without gimping and the ones with definitely feel more secure in the hand 👍 oooo i do like a bit of iron plate shooting 👌
Great video Doc, glad to see you back!!!! Love the whole idea of your razor, killer design!!!! Do you put new scales on a razor? It’s a Wacker razor the scales came worped and I bought a new set. Is that something you do, or know someone that does?
Good idea to use checkering. Maybe this will stimulate some thoughts on how to improve purchase on razors. You’re looking good, sir. Glad to get a vid from ya. Thank you
Strange nobody would cross chequer a razor other than Ulrich ? I've been cross chequering steel half my life , maybe they thought on existing hardened steel finished razor's , obviously more difficult. But not impossible , I use small diamond files on case hardened firearm hammers with no problem ? ( I'm still uncertain about how much to strop , conventional wisdom is 25/30 laps on canvas ,60laps on leather , others go far less ? )
Good video... Quick question? What are your thoughts on using a convex hone to thin the bevel, such as the concave plate that Jarod at TSS has? Was just wondering your thoughts and if you even find it worth while?? Thanks in advance as your opinion holds serious weight...
I haven’t used one Law so I don’t know what to say. It’s an involved ordeal and requires a separate dedicated set of stones. I know Gary Haywood has done several videos on it and he’s very impressed with the results. If I ever get around to it, I will let you know.
@@drmatt357 In a year you couldn't shape some cheap stone with the freebies I mailed you?? All u gotta do is shape any shyte Chinese 1000 waterstone, use that to thin the back of a bevel of a razor you've nanosharpened and already like, confirm with your scope your rear side thinning didn't fuss with the edge, and shave. What'd you do, toss those plates in the trash??
@@thesuperiorshave - I still have the plates Jarod, I appreciate you sending them and do plan on doing it. Will need to discuss a couple of things on how but I’ll be in touch. I’m not a hater and respect your stuff. I just haven’t been doing much of anything here lately.
Awesome razor Matt! Glad you got what you wanted! I am curious, did you contact the other razor makers that checkered can be done? Did you sent them a pic as proof? I think they just told you that it couldn't be done because they knew that it would be a lot of work. Have a great day!
@@drmatt357 I would have liked to see the looks on their faces or their replies. Lol! You proved the old saying," Where there is a will. There is a way. Enjoy your 2 checkered razors Matt. Take care.
You should make a trip to Austria 🇦🇹 Would be nice to have you around 😀 We could some good time and meet your blacksmith. If you have some time and motivation please contact me. I am also a razor/stone enthusiast 🫶🧱
I gotta say that razor is badass. Pretty cool design.
Sensationalizing Guns ? O the Humanity.
LOL! Barely made it past the YT sensors.

I know you have a Kanayama strop Gary, I've just used the suede side and leather and that's great too on the Koraat!

Hey J., great to hear from you!😁
I've sharpened a Korat for someone and the razor was different than other razors that I tested and sharpened.
Beautiful blade , good to see ya it’s been a while !
I have a Koraat 14 2.0 double belly grind with their heavy beard grind as well
What Is that the name of that style of scales on your razor, looks nice, same style as the sweeney todd razor scales
Good to see ya’, Doc!! 👊🏻
Thanks Shawn!
Hello Dr. Matt. Did I hear you mention Escher. How does it compare to the ILR?
BMW 7 to a Chevy Tahoe.
Was that you shooting the 'Accelerator' stage in a Steel Challenge match?
Not me. Just a random YT video.
Now that’s cool👍🏼
