- On this special episode of The Midnight Society, I look back at season 1, ranking the episodes from worst to best, in my opinion. I also reveal the results of the best and worst episode polls from season 1 according to you, the members of the Midnight Society.

Well the worst nightmare fuel for me is still Zeebo and the demon in the basement. Those can go back to Hades from whence they came. My favorite ghost on this list - the Lonely Ghost. She just wants to be reunited with her Mom. I would also include Madeline. I’d hang with Madeline and gladly keep her company when able. I mean honestly how cool would it be to ask a ghost how things are beyond the dead? Then again, I myself am strange and usual. If Madeline could cause me to levitate and dance in the air like Barbara and Adam did with Lydia in “Beetlejuice”, hell yeah! Jump in the line!

@@Rammstein0963.No, it was the skeleton for me and the fact it ate the kid. The doll thing didn’t bug me, but if dolls give you the creeps, fair enough.
Haha! I'd have to agree. A friendly ghost would be awesome to hang out with, though I'm still not sure I like the idea that they can see me at all times. Ghost friend or fleshy, bathroom time is private time.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShowAgree with you on that, but I like to think Madeline became a ghost with standards - unlike the ghost with the most, who has none! (Yes I’m stoked for the upcoming Beetlejuice 2 movie, with Michael Keaton fresh from his return as Batman in “The Flash”… it was glorious!) BTW, you unintentionally reminded me of an old short horror joke my Dad made of a parrot that was “thought dead” and flushed down the toilet and then every night, one would hear a creepy parrot voice sing in a watery tone “I see your heinie, all white and shiny, if you don’t hide it, I’m gonna bite it”. Yes, my Dad is a very strange and questionable man, and dang it if he didn’t teach me to be wary of using a toilet and especially hearing a watery voice in the toilet. Oh man, if that turns out to be the pool ghost’s pet, I’m 💯down with that being the best episode in AYAOTD history and they might need to pay my Dad royalties for using that song.
I agree, zeebo scared me badly. Because he could move around outside the ride and the park!
The main disagreement is I would have rated Lonely Ghost higher and Jake and the Leprechaun at the bottom because I hate that episode with a passion.
Fair enough. Neither episode is good. For me, the production value of Jake and the Leprechaun make it the superior episode, but I can see how that wouldn't be the case for everyone. And, as I stated in the video, I know I'm in the minority on Lonely Ghost. I don't see what everyone else sees in that episode, but a lot of people like it.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow I kind of feel similar about Hungry Hounds. I think it’s a bad episode, but I don’t think it’s as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Both Zeebo, and the Basement Demon, are pure nightmare fuel and will forever be burned into the minds of 90s kids. The nightmare shadow creature was also pretty spooky, for the time. I also found Peter to be quite creepy. Sardo is also iconic for the show. I wish the game from The Pinball Wizard was an actual game, minus the being trapped forever. Looks fun for a LARP. #90s #AYAOTD
Yeah, I feel like Dark Music doesn't get enough credit. It has some of the creepiest stuff from season 1 in it.
Zeebo the clown will always be better than Pennywise. no debate there. the fact that you don't see Zeebo is what makes it scarier. Zeebo the clown played a huge part in my childhood and still to this day I dream about him. he is my old childhood friend and always will be.
If you take the Lonely Ghost as the tale of two cousins who take an elderly woman to the home where her child died to murder her, it's much darker and more compelling.

Yeah, I've been thinking of some alternate videos to make on AYAOTD. Best/Worst episodes of a season. Best storytellers, best/worst main characters in a story, best/worst villains in a story, etc. I'll roll them out as the occasional bonus video when I have time to make them.
Looking back on it as an adult. I never realized how much season 1 of Are You Afraid of the Dark? Sucked. The writing in most, if not all, the episodes are flawed as hell. It's hard to pick the best one as most of them were pretty badly written. Maybe one or two actually stands out. Good ranking overall!
The show definitely improves in season 2 and I think that is due to them figuring out what the show was in season 1.
In kids shows bad acting is good and good acting is bad its all about character, naivete, and fun.

The super specs one still creeps me out to this day. No, really, there's one shot that still makes me go "well I don't like THAT." I guess kids scared easier in the 90s.

@@JackOfAllNerdsShow when the black figure sitting on her bed is just staring and pointing at her. I guess saying it still creeps me out is overstating it, but it definitely reminds me why I found this one so terrifying as a kid. The idea of being the only one aware of something and no one believing you is such a scary concept in general. (And of course...that ending. This show got fucked-up at times and genuinely I have so much respect for it still.)
Hopefully you do all the seasons.

Dogs fun fact will eat their owners if the owner is dead and if they're starved enough. And tbh the phantom cab being the first episode will always have flaws, especially in an anthology series. Normally the first season has more flaws than the later seasons
That is definitely true and you see the improvements in season 2 where the show really finds its flow.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow i have seen many an anthology series, tales from the darkside, monsters, tales from the crypt, beyond belief fact or fiction, Ray Bradbury theater and this obscure one that zero reviews on it, Ghost Stories from 96. Tbh ghost stories doesn't have the best effects ever, it's even more lowbudget than the first season of are you afraid of the dark. But even though it has unknown actors you can tell they're trying and alot of stories are very scary, one is close to the plot of get out but different theme and one has a theme of AI taking over our lives. Plus it's hosted by Rip Torn

Phantom cab is just misunderstood its a 80z. confict style im into similar to goonies, u cant do that on tv, pete n pete, etc. It should have been an hour special with backstory and more details same with prom queen.
There are a number of episodes that should've been two-parters. Goosebumps did it all the time. i don't know why this show wasn't into it. They only did 2 multi-episode stories the entire run (Cutter's Treasure and Silver Sight). And they did a terrible job with Cutter's Treasure, at least to me they did.
