Behind The Scenes Of SFM Train Animations (20.000 Subscriber Special!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- It was only on the 11th of May, 2019, that the first purely railway-focused Source Filmmaker animation was uploaded to the Flying Scott channel. Since then, the people who subscribed to the channel because of that specific video or the subsequent 14 train animations cumulatively amount to over 52% of total Flying Scott subscribers! Madness!
Today, in acknowledgement of the 20.000 of you who have clicked that big button, we take a look at those 15 videos. Their shortcomings, achievements, controversy and highlights. I give you some magician secrets and show you what is actually going on beyond the viewfinder. I hope you enjoy!
P.S. The Q&A is still happening, leave your questions in the comment below, I'll pick my favourites in the follow-up! Deadline is 17th of February, 2024!

Submissions for the Q&A are now CLOSED!
Also, when talking about 'Thoroughbred' I couldn't find an organic way to weave it into the script, but check out these pieces of art done by JackieFreight, inspired by that animation: twitter.com/ramrjamr97/status/1755213931243557090
Which of the Talyllyn Railway engines is your favourite?
Hi, I have 2 questions;
Why did you decide to start your youtube channel?
How did you come up with your name?
I have two questions for you
1) How is your small fleet of LONG LADS going?
2)What is your most favorite class of steam locomotives?
Can we see a full tour of your layout?
So… is Mann co railroad a precursor railroad? Did it merge RED and BLU or was it split between them?
Also does Mann co get privatised into SAXTON RAIL?
Anyways, congrats on 20k!
Nice video @Flying scott keep up the good work!
My questions are
1. Do you plan to make more animations related to Cara?
2. With the onslaught of new train models for SFM coming across multiple countries, like American and European, do you ever plan on doing something with those?
3. If you were to go back to the Efteling (I apologize if I spelt it wrong) would you ever film your experience?
And 4. Where do you see your channel going in the future? Like what type of content do you wanna keep making or branch out to?
TBH
Your SFM animations are the best videos on your channe
I just love them!
Not much for me to say, but your animations and the more standard train and model train videos are great! Also I'm here for the memes
12:59 someBODY ONCE TOLD ME
i clap for the funny sfm train man
Your hands right 😄
..your hands right.? 😅
My 2 Questions for Flying Scotts 20K sub Q&A (Congrats BTW):
What is Your Favourite Steam Locomotive in The World?
and
What Inspired You to Make Videos?
Questions
1. What is the best sandwich
2. Are you secretly evil
just 2 questions:
1. do you think Thomas and friends would be relevant to your channel once a year or so or no and why?
2. what’s your best advice for newer sfm users?
I find the use of the benches to hide Chuggy's non-functional running gear rather funny just because I've done similar things on kitbashed model locomotives. It's funny to think that technique jumped between real life and Source Filmmaker of all things. Knowing how awkward SFM can be to work in, I'm curious if there are any particularly bizarre glitches or issues you ran into while making these?
congrats flying scott
For the Q&A segment: Will we see more American locomotives in future SFM animations given the expanded library in the steam workshop?
The aminations really do impress me at the start pf the videos. Congrats on reaching 20,000 Subscribers
I Have Fun Watching Trains In 2024
Great video well done
You’re welcome
1. With a train pack of the titfield thunderbolt being released, what is one railway film you would really like to see get their own model?
Source spaghetti animating ground vehicles in sfm
11:15 You'd think the people in the Thomas fandom that know Edwards basis would know he's a 4-4-0 and not a 0-6-0. That and them missing it being in BR Black and having an actual number.
I hope you can get to 100k subs
Here are Several Questions that I am Giving.
Question 1: How did you get into The Flying Scotsman??
Question 2: Opinions on Thomas The Tank Engine???.
Final Question: Favorite Locomotive Model on your SFM.
Thoroughbred is my favourite animation you’ve made.
What are your favourite steam whistles and/or diesel and electric horns?
Is the running number on the A3 pacific in Thoroughbred a reference to anything(like a TOPS number for Flying Scotsman)?
I like trains.😊
What are your top 5 Non Big four locomotives?
(Can be steam, diesel or any other type, BR and Pre-grouping work too)
First off, massive props and congratulations for reaching this mark! Absolutely deserved.
Second, the question on my mind:
As a fellow SFM Animator {kind of, most i did was a tribute for the 9 years of Freddy Fazbear Game that got corrupted so i couldn't get the finished product out but thankfully had an earlier version exported, f in chat as they say}, I always take interest in the technical side of things so:
Which maps do you think are best for scene building rail yards and such or, anything in general? And any recommendations for dealing with this absolute shitbox that we call an animation software? Might finally try my own hand at grabbing it by the reins soon enough.
11:23-11:29 As a Thomas fan, I sincerely apologise on behalf of the TTTE community if I can.
Whats the name of the soundtrack for Withdrawn: The End Of Steam? It just sounds so beautiful.
That would be "Eternal Hope', by UA-cam's one and only one-stop shop for audio, Kevin MacLeod.
First question would you do a video with a j70 and a flying Scotsman in his today look and second do you like 0-6-0 or 0-4-0 tank engine
What is your favorite steam, Diesel, and Electric locomotive (doesn't matter what part of the world)
Question:
Would you consider pursuing animation or related art media as your career path?
Will there be less model reviews due to the rising prices of models ?
besides all these british trains, wouldnt it also be something if there was the option of more foreign stock to animate with?
Goed gedaan
15:06 murder on the orient express (1974)?
Ah, someone got it!
Here is a question I have, what made you decided to make these SFM videos?
Do you do Railworks Races with your friends or are me and my friend group just weird?
Do you think that you could make your own Sfm models if you had to?
flying scottishman
What is your favorite american railroad?
11:11 really? That engine is clearly not a 812 or a K2 lmao
Where do you find your models
For sake of clarity, do you mean the models used for animating or the physical tiny OO gauge trains?
Why do you use American and British rail engines and not stick to one?
why do you have such a disliking to thomas the tank engine and friends?
Flyings are you 🏳️⚧️?
This
If there was one locomotive that you could add to SFM, what would it be?
