The ballet, "The Little Mermaid" with Roland Petit & Zizi Jeanmaire, choreographed by Roland Petit. The ballet is based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen.
Viewing this ballet nearly 60 years after it was made, it remains a moving, exquisite work by Roland Petit. I had the pleasure of being in the corps de ballet on the film and I still cry when I see the pas de deux. It's a true, timeless work of art. Thank you posting this treasure.
I watched this movie a zillion times when I was a kid, and always loved this sequence. Now looking back it's hard to imagine a 7-minute ballet sequence as sophisticated as this being in a family-aimed Danny Kaye film. Certainly studios today would never think kids would sit through this.
I greatly admire Roland Pertit's choreography. even in the 21st century his Ballets remain dateless. Recently revived at the Paris Opera his Clavigo and Proust still feature in the repertoire.

@baja0270 this is a segment from the film "Hans Christian Andersen" with Danny Kaye.
do you have the beginning of this ballet from Hans Christian Anderson?
Where can I find a full recording of this?
When I was little, I always thought she should have woken him up and punched him.
