In short, MARSCOC Raiders are under SOCOM, Force Recon is under big USMC command. When they formed MARSOC they pulled a bunch of Recon guys to do it, so initially their personnel had been both. MARSCO has a separate pipeline now. Force Recon are the aptly titled recon unit of the Marines meant to scout ahead, and MARSOC are basically the Marines' Green Berets with a big focus on foreign internal defence (training trainers and local forces to fight and form an opposition).
MARSOC still don't know what the fuck they are. Recon all the way, that's the heart of the Marine Corps. Marines' Marines. MARSOC are just rank and file in SOCOM.

Doesn’t matter who has adcon or opcon, who has more funding. What sets recon marines apart is their aquatic standards and how they already have to be fish to get to the try out point. You need to have water survival beginner, intermediate, and advanced qualification that has its own events. Then you show up for the recon screener and one event is the aquatics portion with its own events (extensive water treading, long distance breaststroke in utilities for short time, underwater traveling with one breath, retrieving and towing rifle, etc.) then after recon there’s the SOCOM screener which is a pre-dive requirement for dive school. Recon is on its own level because they are beyond competent in the water. When it comes to water, all units besides recon, seals, and marsoc make a run for it
I went through Airborne School with a bunch of Force Recon, ANGLICO, and one FAST Team Marine. Only the Marines best show up and graduate at Airborne School.
FAST aren't operators. I know an Marine Barracks 8th &I Marine that went to jump school. Grunts get FAST and security force guys after they do their two years. Then those grunts have to train them up to be on their level of abilities. It's frustrating for the Marines that are in those units. They should just keep them in security forces, especially FAST. It would be better on them and the Victor units that get them. They just need to lower security force contracts and make it a four year job detail instead of two. They could could institute infantry training back into their schedules. Calling in support, patroling, raids, movement, reconnaissance, Helo, Track, and Boat assults, proper tactics on establishing a beach head. Then, all the SOC shit is already covered in security forces school they seemed alright with coms. This is a Marine basic trained infantryman knowledge. Fire support is a little advanced but not a whole lot, it's definitely where an NCO should be coming in, also they might want to go over patroling manual a few times. At least 5 paragraph orders. This would make life better for them the Victor unit Marines and for the over all mission of the Marine Corps. They should test them when they get to a Victor unit to see if they are knowledgeable enough to be in a leadership position. Nothing more dangerous than a under trained leader who thinks he knows everything.
The Marines always resisted joining SOCOM because they never wanted to send there best to work for an Army or Navy command. He glossed over Marine Detachment One which originally raped Force Recon of all it's experienced operators and sent them over to SOCOM. What SOCOM really liked about Det One is that it came with all the support element like intel. Then came MARSOC/Raiders.

They are always doing something. I was attached to a JSOC unit in my last deployment as a 68 delta. Had the honor of taking care of one who suffered a pretty nasty compound fracture. Not exactly sure what they were doing out where we were but, they operate more than people think from what I saw.
@giannileegalvan2669 they'd give the Marine Corps a shot in the arm too! The one type of unit Marines secretly want to be in but don't get to be is a direct action focused unit like the Rangers. Recon and Snipers are cool but some people get tired of sneaking around. Raiders are cool but some people don't want to PSO ranges for foreign nationals on JCETs. But pure direct action, with a selection process to weed out lower performers and people that don't want to be there back to line battalions? Yes please. Make a reserve component too.
