    The fact it took you 14h makes me think again that people like you deserve a lot of thanks. I continue to be impressed by people on UA-cam who spend their time making great videos and (I don’t know of course) but I doubt you’re making millions from this :)
    I’ve learnt a lot from UA-cam, I don’t mind admitting that. I wasn’t born with the knowledge like some moaners/trolls magically seem to have been 🙄
    And I’m not one of those people who is so arrogant that they think they know everything; however much you know, you can always learn more. Especially from your great, honest and most of all practical videos.
    Keep up the good work 👍

      Thanks Graham, I don't make millions from it but for me it's a continuation of the website that I started 14 years ago, which was created to help everyone with D.I.Y regardless of their previous experience. I have a good job and get some income from UA-cam, but one day if I'm struggling I might have to put a donate button on the site.

    Top job sir! Having just washed my garage door and replaced the cladding surrounding it I now get a buzz everytime I leave/return to the house!Your presentation is very clear and easy to follow. I really appreciate the time you take to simplify so many different projects. All the best!

    Yep, those spray painters create such a better finish overall, than just a brush.
    The finished job, looks excellent. Due to the time you spent mostly preparing. The part most people miss.

      I've seen videos of white upvc being painted grey, is this a load of rubbish or is it any good? Potential for a video? ;)

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому

      I'm not sure, to be honest. I know that you can use Zinsser 123 to prime UPVC but I am not sure how well it works. There are also professional firms now that spray UPVC, but I'm not sure how durable it is or how long it lasts.
      I'll consider it for a future video though ;-)

    Lovely job, I’ve a sprayer similar to this and used on the external shiplap on my sheds/workshop. It does not take too long to mask areas and I was surprised at how good the finish was over using a paintbrush. Won’t be using to spray my car but for what I want, similar to you, it does a very good job. Thanks for taking the time and effort in producing these - You make it all look too easy. Sun is shining here - have a great Sunday yourself. Regards Mike.

    Great video and a mighty fine job. I have used Zinsser products before and I think the range is excellent. I used some on a ceiling that was badly stained with tobacco and after sugar soaping and then emulsioning the stain kept coming through. The Zinsser paint (I forget which type) was worth its weight in gold.

    I'm pretty sure the Flexio 590 Sprayer comes with two spay heads. Which did you use and what were you paint and air settings. The reason I ask is I just painted my shop walk through (metal door) with the Flexio 3500 which I think is just a newer model of the 590 and it didn't turn out smooth at all.

      Thanks, I don't recall my arm aching but I have a physical job. One thing though it was annoying me holding the extension lead in my other hand! They really need a longer lead on the sprayer! I bet the prep took up 80% of the time on this job.

    Which model is this? I want to buy the 3000 but have seen videos of people saying it is not good for exterior paint as you need to dilute the paint to help it atomize and with exterior paint you would compromise the paint too much.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому +1

      Yes, you can but there might be more overspray. Its years since I sprayed using a compressor and if I remember rightly there was a lot of overspray.

    • @garrygemmell5676
      @garrygemmell5676 6 років тому

      Cheap Lidl compressor is what i use with attachment for spraying but watch the overspray as the Handyman says - if you can adjust the pressure first and test it then you will minimize the overspray!

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому +2

      Thanks, Mark.
      The Zinsser Perma white exterior did not need thinning, I just mixed it and sprayed it straight on.
      I did try spraying some Zinsser Perma white interior though, which was a few years old and I had to water that down 10% with cold clean water.

    Hello sir, top video and top editing, fair play for the graft.

    Nitromors has bad reviews of late . Do you know any super strength products?

    I have an Ebauer sprayer I generally use for fence coat - as the Zinsser paint is water based I can use that then? Did you have to take an special precautions to keep the sprayer clean? I guess cleaning between coats is essential?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому

      I mixed the paint well, then sprayed one coat on. I think I just wiped the nozzle and opened the container to vent it, I then ensured that I left it in a cool place for 2 hours before applying the second coat.
      Depending on how warm it is when you spray it might be worth emptying the sprayer out and flushing it with water to guarantee no blockages. It is dead easy to clean with the paint being water based- like you say.
      I'm guessing the Erbauer sprayer will be very similar.
      Thanks for the comment

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому

      Thanks, for this video I just used the Zinsser Perma white exterior, but ensured it was well mixed.
      A few days ago I opened an old tin of Zinsser Perma white interior and tried that, but it was not spraying at all well- so I watered it down using 10% cold, clean water and that helped.

    Thanks for this video it's really useful. I asked you about a month ago on this and you have delivered. Would this be suitable for painting any surfaces such as brick and pebble dash as long as I get the correct paint.?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому +1

      You are welcome. I'll film a proper review when I get time but I'm so busy that could be months away.
      I'm not sure about spraying masonry with this model, I'm sure you can use it for emulsion paints etc. Some masonry paints contain sand/fine particulates and I don't think they are recommended for this machine.
      Also you have to be careful painting bricks as many of them are a nightmare to paint, and if not primed properly the paint will soon start flaking off.
      You can use the Zinsser Perma white on masonry though, and you can now get it tinted at most professional paint retailers.
      Thanks for the comment

    Can you jus pour any paint into the sprayer flask and away you go, gloss, emulsion, varnish ? Do you have to thin the paint down with white spirits ? Thanks very much for video

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому +1

      It depends on the paint and the viscosity and flash point of the paint.
      You can spray most paints, but some may need diluting.
      Apparently the sprayer is good for wood stain and emulsion paints, but I've only used it with Zinsser Perma white so far and got good results.

    Wow always impressed almost no contractors in this area or even some pros would sand it down - some of them wouldnt even put on an undercoat like i did! Used a paintbrush myself but the spray really does a perfect job as you say Ches!
    What I am looking for is a spray that can do Weathershield - anyone that invents one that can spray that stuff on a house will make a fortune - its a huge job painting on Weathershiled on 1960's chuckie dash render even though its been painted a few times its still a bummer to use that brush and ladders to get the weathershield into all the nooks and crannies on a two storey Detached 1960 Villa (On A Hill lol - Watch my ladders wobble!!! >;o))!

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому +1

      I think you can get sprayers that will spray Weathershield but to buy one they are about £5000
      A mate of mine bought one at auction for a few hundred quid and I'm sure it will spray almost anything, I think it is what large contractors use when spraying hotels etc.
      Ladders and hills do not mix- please be careful ;-)

    good video mate, i was thinking of getting one of those sprayers, there are a lot of them on amazon and ebay really cheap £30 upwards but i suppose you get what you pay for, did you have to thin the zinsser or stir then straight from the can into sprayer?
    have you tried water based paints in the sprayer to spray MDF i was thinking of doing a built in wardrobe. keep up the good work, kevin

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  5 років тому

      I'm hopefully going to review the Wagner in the next few weeks (I've been meaning to do it for years)
      I just stirred the Zinsser All coat and sprayed it without thinning it.
      I have used it for water based decking stain (which was thick, a bit like emulsion paint) and it sprayed that fine as well. Sometimes you have to adjust the nozzle and there is a dial you can adjust until you get the correct spray pattern.
      I love the sprayer, it gives a really good result ;-)

    Another great video. Where do you buy your paint and ancillaries from? Do they offer retail purchase?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому +1

      I used to use Dulux decorator centres as I used to get a good discount from the good old days when I worked for ICI.
      In the past I have bought paint from eBay, but the tin lids are often taped on which can obscure some of the instructions on the tin.
      Sometimes I use Crown decorator centres but, like Dulux decorator centres they are really expensive unless you have an account with them.
      Screwfix now stock a lot of Zinsser paints and the last few products I have bought have been from Screwfix. They sell all the stuff that I use, such as Bulls eye 123, B.I.N and Allcoat etc. I also get my rollers and brushes from Screwfix as they are cheap and convenient.

      Ultimate Handyman I've seen you use the Zinsser paint frequently, I hadn't heard of the brand until watching your video but they seem well regarded. Great that most of what you use can be bought from Screwfix - there's a lot of stores opening up in the chain (let's hope they don't expand too fast like Maplin)

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому +1

      To be honest I had never heard of them until a decorator in the forum kept recommending their products. I tried a few of them and was really impressed with them. Now I try to buy their stuff all the time as I know it's good stuff!

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому

      No, sorry.
      I would remove as much loose paint and flaking rust as possible. Give the rust a brush with a wire brush and then treat it with a rust convertor, then prime over the rust with Zinsser cover stain. I'd then give it two coats of Zinsser Perma white (just like in this video). I have painted radiators (one of them with rust) in this video which shows what I used- ua-cam.com/video/x5dEeVJu-7M/v-deo.html

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  4 роки тому

      It probably took about 5 hours, but it takes 3-4 times longer when filming. Sometimes I have done jobs that can be done in a hour and it has taken me 3 hours because I was filming it etc.
      It's the preparation that takes all the time, once it is masked off you can paint the door really quickly.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому

      You can get it tinted now, but at one point it could only be tinted to pastel colours (but I think it can be tinted to any colour now).
      Places like Crown or Dulux decorator centres will be able to tint it.
      I've not use the Perma white to cover over other colours but I would imagine it would be fine with a couple of coats.

      Yeah, I have had a few videos that have taken hours to edit like that. It's much easier just filming and doing the talking at the same time but that is not possible most of the time due to background noise. I never actually realised it until I started making videos just how much background noise there is, such as vehicles, airplanes, birds, people doing DIY, small engines etc.

      You are welcome. My van is a Mercedes Vito 109CDI (5 seater), It's 14 years old now but still runs well.

    Is the sprayer pretty loud?

      Not at all, I would say it is comparable to using a cordless drill

    is there a reason you didn't power wash the doors?

      On the first door I did not want any water to get into the garage as it's my workshop, but I should have power washed the second door as the loose paint was difficult to remove with the sander.

    I was wondering how many times you had to refill the sprayer's tub for that garage door?
    Keep up the great work 😉👍

      I'm sure I only filled the tub once for each coat as the paint goes a long way when spraying it.
