I love that NL said that Austin told him that a deck without proper defense could make it up to the final boss but would be fucked at that point, and then proceeded to pick up 4 defensive cards all together and then got destroyed by the last boss
blahthebiste That's a fair point for sure. I just think that a lot of people underrate the upgraded strikes and defends. 9 damage and 8 block are WAY better than 6 and 5, so if you have a decent amount of strikes and defends left in the deck, it's definitely not an easy choice.
hilarious how NL talks at the beginning about how not having a defensive deck makes you often loose to the final boss...which is exactly what happend in this run :D
If you can run a super thin deck or boost it with a bunch of headbutts and shrugs/pommels it's incredible, but if you're not playing it once a turn it's not great. Good, but not great.
Naah what made him lose the final boss fight was that moronic decision to end turn with 4 energy and pommel strike in hand when he could have easily done like 50+ more damage to the boss that turn.
"Without Strength I don't think Bludgeon is that good" wat? "I think we want Pommel with Clash to keep the cards moving" WAT? I died when he removed a card instead of upgrading Strikes and Defends again. Then he passed turn with 4 energy and a pommel strike and I rose from the grave so I could die again. Still never going to learn how to fight the dark blobs or thorny boys, eh? 30 card rampage decks lol
23:54 - "Do I want to deal 5 damage and block 5 incomming damage... Or deal an AWESOME TOTAL OF 6 DAMAGE!?" "Sign me in!" "Don't mind if I do!" "Everyone knows 1 damage on an enemy is worth a 5 HP loss!" 41:50 - "I don't think I wanna use this 0 energy card-draw card on the first turn of combat in witch I have 7 energy and a hand that literally costs 2 energy." "Also, passing the turn with 4 energy and a strike that draws 2 cards while the enemy is vulnerable is probably a good call... I'm sure I will be able to use 6 cards on the next turn with my 5-card hand."
RayVitoles the best part was "I think our deck is fine for time eater" conveniently forgetting he (yet again) has no block. At least Austin finally got him to believe the things we've been telling him for well over a month.
As long as you play any clashes that are currently in your hand before pommeling, then he's right that keeping cards cycling is good in a clash deck, but shrug it off just risks putting more non-attacks in your hand
The Time boss gets stronger every 12 cards you play. It also ends your turn when you play card #12. He wanted to be able to have a bigger range of options on his next turn since he'd already played 6 cards. And if he played the Pommel and the additional 2 cards he drew he would have only been able to play 3 cards before his turn was forced to end.
I guess it was because he already played like 6 cards and didn’t want to have a garbage turn where he only could have played 2 cards until the time douche ended his turn. Though that was exactly what happened anyways
Yea he over thought it. Thinking that the extra plays would let him go off. IMHO you should play the cards that do something if you have the energy inless they basically do nothing. NL left 4 energy that could have been used. Yes the next turn is weaker but making this turn weaker only make the chance of the next turn to be better. That said I don't think that mistake turn the boss fight from winnable to a lost (though in IMHO its a serious misplay).
@15:50 Huh? Bludgeon might have literally the worst synergy with a strength deck. It only hits once and it costs a lot, so you get 1 application of your strength to your enemy for 3 energy, which is completely terrible for a strength deck compared to even a basic strike. It might be okay anyway, but it synergies with a strength deck ridiculously badly. It would work well in a Snecko Eye deck though.
The learning is working a bit, now that Austin told him what we've been saying for weeks now. If he gets this "slowplay" shit out of his mind, gets some decent valuations (cleave and dagger cards are so overrated for example), and learns that defending isn't just _not_ embarrassing but necessary, he might actually start winning runs.
One piece of advice for expensive cards. Imo there are two situations (considering late game mostly) you want to play them or you don't so since they are expensive you either upgrade them asap or you remove them so you don't have a dead card. Why did I said late game? Because Bash I would not remove it initially but I would not upgrade it unless I need it for combos so once you start having a decent deck, bye bye Bash (as an example). And why upgrade them asap? Because since you are paying high you want for it to be the best thing ever otherwise you will end not using them and then you go to option B) it is a dead card.
Why is Juggernaut a good pick with Metallicize? Metallizice gives you block every turn, which means 3 damage every turn. Juggernaut costs 2 energy, which means It will take 5 turns for Juggernaut+Metallicize to do as much damage as a basic, non-buffed Heavy Strike. That's garbage. Waste of 2 energy. You take Juggernaut if you're going for a body slam type of build, i.e. if you've got rage, if you've got iron wave, if you're doing lots of armaments, if you're shrugging off. Metallicize alone and a basic defend here or there doesn't do much for Juggernaut.
30:00 The right play was to use bash to do 64 damage which was more than without bash. Also you should’ve done it on principal since you spent so much and a potion on removing its artifacts.
Hey NL, on the second elite you miscalculated the vulnerable damage, it's 50% more not 33% more which would make each 18 damage rampage deal 27 instead, not 24. Minor difference, but might impact in future. For example, that turn you missed 3 damage on that turn plus and extra turn of vulnerability, even though you didn't end up needing it.
33:45 you can buy a cleave or whirlwind and immediately upgrade it next tile... and you chose the cleave? Guess you didn't want a heavily upgraded version of that cleave you took. Who wants an attack that hits for 8 x X damage to all enemies when you have a deck of zero cost cards and ton of card draw anyway?
I know you still get a lot of comments saying you're misplaying (which you still are, but not so bad anymore) but I think you can try archetypes you haven't done before. I would have liked it if you picked up the immolate at the start and tried to do a wound/curse/exhaust deck, because even though trying to force an archetype right off the start can be dangerous, if you don't like any of your options, might as well try out something new and interesting, and maybe when you're done you'll learn to like one of them.
NL, please, please, please, when you make choices in this game, stop to think about the math involved. You talk a lot about Magic: the Gathering when you get on the subject of deckbuilders. MtG is all about statistics, because every deckbuilder is. Case in point: upgrade 9 cards, or remove 1 card? Which is better, 9 or 1? There really isn't anything more complicated about it: there's no way that making your deck 1 card thinner will be as good as improving 9 cards, even if you don't use those 9 cards as much, you're guaranteed to have to play them in any fight that lasts longer than a few turns.
“Then why are you keep petting him?” “Cause he’s my son.”
This man will be very good parent person
you could say... nice egg daddy
I love NL but the way he refers his cat as his son is unbearable.
AmorthOfficial guy pls
@@davidhong1934 well do i have news for you
I love that NL said that Austin told him that a deck without proper defense could make it up to the final boss but would be fucked at that point, and then proceeded to pick up 4 defensive cards all together and then got destroyed by the last boss
Every time NL is fighting an elite "Ok this guy... you just race him"
That is basically each elite in the game though. And almost any boss frankly. All of them are dps races to some extent.
Yep, they basically all punish slow decks. Thats why silent can be tough to get a run going.
Now this guy is annoying!
Upgrading all strikes and defends with THAT many strikes would have been significantly better imo
With Armaments already in the deck and upgraded? Not at all. He even got a second upgraded armaments after that. Upgrades would have done very little
blahthebiste That's a fair point for sure. I just think that a lot of people underrate the upgraded strikes and defends. 9 damage and 8 block are WAY better than 6 and 5, so if you have a decent amount of strikes and defends left in the deck, it's definitely not an easy choice.
Any time you don't have armaments or apotheosis, the upgrade-all is really good for sure. It's like +1 str, +1 dex in a way, in a lot of decks.
@@blahthebiste7924 Apotheosis is SOOOOO good for him. He can't upgrade all his 40 cards using just camp fires and random events. XD
I'm interested to hear how that in any way relates to the previous conversation
New drinking game. Take a shot everytime NL calls something strictly better than a strike or a defend.
Matěj Plachta we would die
new one..Take a shot everytime NL says "a cleave is nice" or "we need some gas in our deck"
Matěj Plachta not really "new" at all mate.
You guys, I like to drink... but come on haha
Or when he takes Cleave.
also NL, Body Slam scales with strength. So even if you have 0 Block you should play it, it'll deal damage equal to your strength.
How to win slay the spire, according to NL: Race everyone, and always take AoE cards, no matter what
But not the good Aoe cards like Whirlwind, we dont like those cards.
hilarious how NL talks at the beginning about how not having a defensive deck makes you often loose to the final boss...which is exactly what happend in this run :D

"we need draw to enable clash and keep the deck moving" actually the exact opposite of how to enable clash
But he got it to work that one time so obviously that's how you're supposed to play it.
As long as you play any clashes that are currently in your hand before pommeling, then he's right that keeping cards cycling is good in a clash deck, but shrug it off just risks putting more non-attacks in your hand

NL seriously undervalues brutality and it hurts so much
The worst is he always underestimate Bludgeon...
And he overvalues his cat.
NL, I just had to. Sorry about that.
I don't understand why you'd not play the pommel strike when you have 4 energy left (42:06). Am I missing something or has our egg lost the plot?
The Time boss gets stronger every 12 cards you play. It also ends your turn when you play card #12. Hey just a helpful tip body slam scales with strength so if you have 2 strength and 0 block it does 2 damage for free
Anyone knows if a 1 card deck works if your only card is clash?
You’d need spinning top to draw it back

Nice try NL, the time eater just sucks, does an insane amount of damage
Time Eater does the lowest damage of all the three final bosses, Donu and Deka do most damage.
