Boy do I love that bike, stunning in red! It took me a while to get the carbs on my XS1 to where I like them. I even replaced the needle and needle jet after I ran out of clip positions!
hi Chris i know i'm talking after the horse has bolted by this date, but its not the pilot jet as the pilot jet sets the idle but if as you say the problem with hesitation is at around 1/4 throttle that is a clear sign of the carb side cut away is wrong and its also spitting back Through the carb that's an other clear sign, the carb slide is marked where the needle cilp is on the side with a number. the numbers range from number 2 all the way up to 5 your a10 should have a cut away number 3 or 3.1/2 depending on year and that's where i would start to look, with kind regards Adrian.
Hi Adrian, thanks for sharing your knowledge there. The bike seems to be running well now, but if I experience issues down the line I will bear in mind what you said about the carb slides. Wasn’t actually aware that they were marked! Cheers, Chris
I always only do ONE thing at a time between rides..that way you can isolate ONE effect at a time..I wouldve waited longer before dicking with cables and idle jets.
Yeah that's a fair comment. Patience isn't my strongest suit 😂. Glad to have sorted her in the end, but definitely agree with what you say. Too many variables!
Yeah I thought about that and I quite like the look of the bellmouth and gauze, but I just worry that there will be small pieces of debris getting sucked in 🤔
Time was when every owner would know all this. It was an integral part of ownership. Back fire on pick up from 1/8 to 1/4 throttle? File 1/16 " off the bottom of the slide.
@@CharltonsClassics Its great to see a new generation using these machines. They are really well made and will last forever, very sustainable transport. But things like setting carbs, timing, valves and head off were in the "Handbook" becuse they were every day skills, the "Workshop manual" was reserved for the hard stuff😀. Normal practice its to get a long straight road, no traffic (you will be distracted) and a gentle up hill, a plug spanner and some jets. Hot engine, working hard, at 3/4 throttle then cut the engine, coast to a stop and pull the plugs and check for light straw colour, move the needle up or down, then do it again at full throttle and swap to one bigger or smaller jet (it was common to have a few jets in the tool kit). You do this every few days and gradually you get it right, as the guy says, its quite a job, but once set they are good for years. And leave that idle screw alone, it only effects idle to 1/8 throttle and it should be rich so you get a sharp pick up.
@@limyrob1383 Thanks for the advice there, I will definitely give this a go. And yes the general mechanics of the bike are quite simple, especially once you’ve seen someone show you how to do it without ruining anything. It’s just having someone with the experience to guide you which is important, which this channel is proving to be fairly good at. Many people such as yourself able to give support and advice, which is always greatly welcomed. Thank you 😊.
Hi there. I had to translate your comment so hope the translation was accurate :). I am not entirely sure where would be best - what about ebay or autotrader? Good luck with the search 🙂
Are you sure that’s not just for the American market? It’s a matching numbers bike and verified as a Super Rocket by the Owners Club. Many of them have the red mudguards…🤔
Take the whole carb off dissemble on bench ..look for slide and bore wear..that will cause the ole splutter stutter through gears and acceleration. Floppy rattle air leaks..people forget how much mechanical thrashing and bashing those slides and bores get ..once the wear starts it gets worse quickly...a fine feeler guage fore and aft then to sides between carb bore and slide will expose ovality..fore and aft..usually its the carb bore..its only dyecast poo. I used to polish the crap out of bore and slide and reroute and saturate cable ..carbies are a black art
Thanks again for your words of wisdom there. Pretty clueless when it comes to carbs as you will have seen, so all feedback and knowledge is greatly received! Haven't checked the bore yet to be fair so will definitely do that at some point, make a record, and monitor 👍
Too long to watch it all... RGM will have set the ignition right ! Your plugs are fine ! Always check for air leaks. Anyone who knows what they are talking about would have diagnosed the problem as the slide cut-away in the first 2 minutes !

Thanks mate. I’m so pleased with her overall. She looks great and sounds lovely too. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made 😊

Think I would get rid of the air filter and reset the carb , the Super Rockets were ran without them .

And now you have people like me owning them. Pretty clueless at first, but eager to learn 😊

Leave the air screw alone, you'll end up with no thread 😀
