  • Always wanted to launch my kayak at this ramp and explore the nearby areas. More importantly, always wondered what type of fish can be caught right here in Metropolitan Urban Downtown Jacksonville. I gave it a try and made it happen. Hope you enjoy the adventure!

I know many of the new DIA projects like the shipyards along the downtown river north Bank are supposed to have some new living shores for fishing.

That’s great! I have a couple artificial reefs marked already that they put in several years back around the downtown area. Impossible to fish from a kayak though. Hopefully the news ones are more accessible

Those flounder are very cool!! Love the views!! There are nearly 1 million residents in Jacksonville. You get to see the scenery like 99.99% will never see. I plan to do this same trip and good that you do you homework checking what is going on with the tides. I guess the flounder knew it wasn't there season. Wish you could have measure that one that got away. Nice trout and cool to paddle with the dolphins too.

The mullet run follows the path you were fishing. We were working on the exterior of Baptist Hospital and were lucky enough to see this phenomenon! The river of mullet (yes I said river, I don't know how else to describe it!) was 150 feet wide and probably 3/4 of a mile long of nothing but mullet stacked one on top of the other passing by us. It was incredible. I had never seen anything like it. Dolphins were swimming right by them and not pursuing them at all. I don't know if the dolphin don't eat mullet or they were already full.
