Your statement, "I should be alive!" spoke to me deeply. Had an aortic dissection in January 2017, you get tired of hearing all the surgeons and doctors saying you should be dead. I am an engineer by education and career, 59 years young own four power saws ans would rather run them as eat! God Bless Brother.

just finished watching this 10 minutes ago. its 240am where i am in Australia. I had things to do, but they mean nothing compared with the impact your clip had on me. Thankyou Buckin Billy for sharing your story with me. Your a true man. Life is downright confusing as a concept. Your way of living, giving and helping others just feels good, feels right. It gives me resolve. Thankyou for being you.

Thanks Billy. You answered my question on bar length on the 372. I fell over 40 feet, but had my best friends with me (workers). Very fortunate! You are truly blessed. You've got God on your side. But that's good, because now you're giving back. You've got a loyal and faithful community. But you're the strong oak in centre of the vast forest that you've created. I broke my vertibra and 4 ribs, told I wouldn't walk again. I came back. Felling again, and will never give it up. It's you and your community that help me every day. I'm constantly in pain, but smile when I think of what you've created. Thankyou for sharing something that I find difficult to talk about. If you're ever in the UK, I've got to meet you. It could happen to any logger. We live on a wing and a prayer. I actually broke 5 vertibra. Keep logging, the love is there. Who else will look after nature? God loves us. Keep your chin up Buckin army, look after people around you and just be kind. Thanks again Billy.

The universe decided that it wasn't your time to go and I think we're all glad you are here and that we have you here on youtube. As you described this and choked up a bit, I choked up with you. This is about the best-told story that I ever heard. It is full of very good lessons and experience. And they were acquired at a very high price. Don't anybody badmouth You Tube. You have to choose what you watch. But at its best, it is worth more than real living. Buckin' Billy Ray Smith's story makes life clearer and more precious. No church preaching, no speech from the pulpit, no quote from the Bible or the Koran, no legend of old says as much about the real world than this account of a man facing the big wall . I Love You Billy. Thank You! You were meant to be here!

A beautiful young woman(early 20s) lost her life. She was jogging in a state park 20 minutes from my home and had a tree fall on her just last week. Some will say " oh how awful" but I choose to think. What a wonderful way to go! Out enjoying life in the great woods.
Maybe a better title for this video would have been..." The day I was given another chance at life and how I have now chosen to live each day!"
I have broken over 30 bones in my 45 years on Earth. I ache some days more then others but you and your subs keep my spirit alive each and everyday! I don't know when my last day is just like everyone but I am going out with a smile and a full heart of love! Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend, Buckn'! 😀

Great story Buckin. I can totally relate. Back in 1980, I had a similar thing happen to me, but I was a lot luckier then you were. I was working with my stepson falling a tree and I was looking up watching it go when an alder snag came down and smacked me on top of my head. Knocked me straight down into a sitting position. The tree was about 6" in diameter where it hit my plastic hard hat and splitting it in two which saved my head. I was knocked out for a few seconds. The thing that saved me from getting squashed was the snag landed on top of an old growth stump. When I came to I looked up and the tree was about a foot over my head. Falling is a dangerous job for sure.

Buckin', you're probably one of the only people that could hold my attention for 50 minutes while telling a story. It's very inspiring. You have an amazing attitude. If only more people could emit such positive energy out into the world like you do. Years ago I decided to drop off social media entirely, but I love watching UA-cam videos to learn as much as possible in life, and I vowed that I would never say anything negative in a comment. If I don't have anything positive to say, I don't say it, even when it's tempting to correct or critique someone. A negative comment equals negative energy, and man, that's not what humanity needs right now. Keep on keepin' on, Billy. I'm glad you survived that accident and can share some of your stories and mad skills with us.

You may have just inspired me to stop getting upset about political stuff on UA-cam. I can sometimes get kind of mean with the idiocy I see on here. I like your philosophy though. I think I’ll try it. Cheers

I logged for twenty years from 75 to 95. All I ever wanted to be was a logger but sadly the spotted owl won out over us here in Oregon I have been beat up, seen friends killed and injured, cut leg, glanced by a tree, rolled by a root wad and sir, much like you I can relive and feel all the emotions a person goes through. I am happy you are still among us and continue to be safe. By the way, another person I follow is Bjarne Butler. He dropped your name so now I am a subscriber to your channel. I will always be a logger at heart. Take care sir!

I've enjoyed listening to your story about your accident. .I'm 72,Year old widow, .I've never watched anyone sawing timber. I had watched several sawyers , with their sawmills. I learned a lot about lumber and trees. My dad was a carpenter , and I always loved watching him building houses. Your videos on UA-cam are a learning device for me. .I really enjoy seeing you and your son , Hogan. You can tell he loves to work in the trees too. Thank you for explaining what happened to you when the accident happened ..Have a wonderful life. We North Carolinians love it Keep up the good work

Wow, thank you so much for sharing this video!! I really like the way you decribe the accident, but even more the way you decribe the aftermath. Many years ago i had an almost identical accident, so in a way it almost feels like you are telling my story as well, witch made me enjoy this video even more. Even if it brings back a lot of bad memories for me.. I don't like talking about my accident that much, i guess because i feel like i am complaining talking about this. Neither my busted back, neck, leg or head is going to be better if i complain. This is what i always tell people who are making a point of me, not complaining, after what i have been trough. I guess it is the same for you, judging by what you say in the video.
I can sense that you tell this story from the bottom of your heart, i wish i was half as good as telling my story as you are, but i'm not. So again, thank you vey much for telling your story.
Keep up the good work and be safe!!

28:50 had me tearing up Buck'n. No shit man. had me straight tear'n up. God blessed you. Been in some shit myself off of Baker highway 542 middle of winter..... but man. I didn't have family then. Was holding my little 3 month old girl watching this, feeding her a bottle. Looking at her, really appreciating being around to experience her. This was some super super heavy-peronal stuff your letting us in on Buck'n. I really know what you mean by saying you were fit, like stupid crazy fit at 36, alot of people don't know that type of work your ass off invincible never get tired or sore kind of fit. Then you lose it all. But you bounce back if your a man. your awesome buck'n.

    • @TomBennett1
      @TomBennett1 4 роки тому

I truly agree with everything you said except for the you bounce back if your a man commit. Now I understand that we as men have to be strong and able people but I've seen a few things in my life where they are men and wasn't able to return to what they did before because physically it wasn't possible for some. They didn't give up they wasn't asked to change what they were doing it was taken away from them and I don't see them as any less of a man. Never wanted to be on SSI either but there is a point where you don't have a choice because you'll only hurt the people who love you and yourself and have to face facts also. I don't consider anyone I've talked about less than a man because we won't lay down and die like some do.

Totally relate to what you;re saying. I’ve been riding scooters for 35 years. Never once spilled. One night, 8/10/12 to be exact, Took my Dyna out for a 15 minute ride to pick up food for my family and hit some loose gravel 1/4 miles from my house and drifted off the road and hit a stone deeply stuck in grass. I hit at about 45 Mph and instantaneously was in the air and the words that popped into my head was “this is going to hurt”. I hit the ground stomach and waist first and rolled about 20’. My whole body was numb but I immediately jumped up. Adrenaline at top level. I looked back at my bike.which was still running about 45’ behind me. Destroyed. I called my wife to come get me. By the time I got in my house I was weak and dizzy. My wife looked at me in horror as she finally saw me in good light. (It was dark when I crashed) I was bleeding out all over the floor. I had an injury on my right thigh called an internal de-gloving, broken left hand, fractured hip and terrible road rash. She rushed me to the hospital. By the time we got there I was freezing. (87 degrees out) due to blood loss. Emergency surgery.
Spent 9 days in the hospital, could. It walk for 3 months, three subsequent surgeries. Billy, Adrenaline, the will to live and internal psychological strength is all the difference in the world IF an injury is survivable. Stay safe friends.
