Very nice! I love the editing. The narration was hilarious! My friend did a vid like this, and he can tell what cab car on the Surfline is coming just by the horn.
CDTX 8306 used to have a K5LA back in 1999. The P5 I think was ex Southern Railway. In 2000 as the tale goes, a horn collector put a P5 on it. A clip of the K5LA is available on a video by jackmp called "Railfanning Historic Davis Station 1999".
AJ enjoyed the trips to Sacramento during the Jazz Festival. His parents still revisit his videos and enjoy hearing his voice. Life's short enjoy all that it has to offer. He did certainly did.🚇
10:08- I was at Martinez one afternoon as the 5:56 eastbound train was approaching, I could faintly hear the air horn in the distance but at the same time the sign said that the train was arriving several minutes before the crossing activated. I still knew it was coming cause I could hear the air horn in the distance.
Here is my opinion on every Cab Car. (Small note: I prefer the E-Bells and think the regular EMD Steel Bells are boring) 8301 - Ok, but I do have better respect for this one since it has an E-Bell. 8302 - I don't like this one. 8303 - Meh, sounds weak. 8304 - Really good! 8305 - Kinda good. 8306 - The P5 automatically tops every K5LA here. It's just that good. 8307 - Not a fan of the horn, but the E-Bell makes up for it. 8308 - Meh, not that good. 8309 - Awesome! Has an E-Bell too! 8310 - Super awesome! 8311 - Meh, there are better horns here. 8312 - Super awesome! 8313 - Amazing horn, and also, that on-board Quiznos Resturant certainly makes this one interesting! 8314 - Pretty good. The E-Bell certainly helps too. 6961 - Just brilliant. 6962 - I just love that "Scary Horn"! 6963 - Sounds ok. 6964 - Not that good, but not the worst. 6965 - Generally like this one, but most of the others are better. Here's my ranking of them from best to worst: 1. 8306 2. 8310 3. 8312 4. 8313 5. 8309 6. 6961 7. 6962 8. 8304 9. 8314 10. 8301 11. 6963 12. 6965 13. 8307 14. 8305 15. 6964 16. 8303 17. 8311 18. 8308 19. 8302
Alright. I just watched a few other videos of 8302, and I can't agree. Even at fullest, it still sounds awful to me. If it was actually the same case as Surfliner 6901, where it would normally sound good, but rarely does because it can't quill right, I would have already been aware, and noted it. I know 8302 isn't fouled or anything, but personally, I just find it to be the rotten egg in the batch (and even if it did have a better horn, I doubt I would adore it that much because it doesn't have an E-Bell). I don't regret having made one of the contestants in my Cars Elimination back in February have to make a drawing of a comical interpretation of 8302 where it was depicted as a piece of poop shaped like a Cab Car, crested "Mount S**tsta". And, 507, really? How is that a good comparison? 507 has the best horn in all existence in my opinion. To me, not even 8306 can remotely compare to 507.
Lol true, this happans with the 6900s 8300s and the F59s. All that is, is that the right ditchlight stalled. Sometimes both stall and just the left will stall as well.
CDTX 6965's K5LA Horn With 2 3ABells Just Like 8312's K5LA Sound, Should Move To CDTX 6962 To Replace It's Creepy Horn Instead, While 6965 Has A 3rd Gen K5LA Like 8301 & 8304 Does
Very well choreographed and awesome video ! Really liked the information and depth this video went into. I'm not sure if it is just Amtrak California, but do you know why some of the CabCars have what looks to be an air line running from the coupler up to the window ?
I Hope That Caltrans Replace CDTX 6962's Creepy K5LA Except Its 1-Bell Place It On CDTX 6963 To Bring Back Its Original Sound K5LA But It Will Sound Like Surfliner's Cabcar 6951 Or 6908
Do you know that Amtrak California cab car 8305 (Mount Tamalpais) was briefly equipped with a Graham White electronic bell from 2011 to 2012. For some odd reason, cab car 8305 got its e-bell replaced with a brand new EMD steel bell, bringing back the cab car unit its mechanical bell.
Back in the days of the SP, the Emergency light was only activated when the emergency brake was applied like on the Surfliner and some Amcal locomotives. However, the lights tend to malfunction from time to time.
@@AirchimeLTDproductions174 Ummm no. In 2016 - around the time that this video was uploaded - it hit an abandoned vehicle in which the car ended up catching fire and spread onto the cab car. It ended up being burned and toasty looking similar to a quiznos sandwich, hence the name "Quiznos Cab Car." 8313 has since been repaired and put back into service. I've been in 8313 before and I can guarantee you that there is no quiznos restaurant on board. If there were such thing, it would've been in one of the dining cars. Just thought I'd clear this up as I've seen people get mislead by this.

Nice video! Though the cab cars may have horn modifications and their bells replaced, I have and always will love these cab cars.
Only 8301 and 8304 have new horns
I love the sound on 2:38

@@GamingRailfanner lol!
I think that Nathan P5 horns like the one on 8306 sound better than the standard K5LA horn

Because its moving fast( Doppler effect)
