  • This would of been much easier to install when I built my van but I didn't have it in my budget. Now that it's in I'm extremely happy with how it turned out.

    Just finished installing senl-09DC mini split , sprinter 144 , 200 amphr battery , 3000watt inverter . 850 watts startup down to as low as 37watts after temp is reached . Removed pump and put under bed , condenser is undermount . Spare tire moved to back door next to bike rack total cost $900. Super quiet !

    I am planning my van build and and weighing the advantages of the split system here or the roof mount. If the split system, I would use 1/4" or 3/8" closed cell foam sheets to make a duct to move air to the front and back of the van's interior. This means cutting a strip that is 16" wide, and as long as the longest run of duct , then glue (or tape) the edges along the long edge to make a tube. The 16" wide strip would make a rectangle-oval tube that has a cross sectional surface area that is at or slightly above the cross sectional surface area of the 4" round duct required by the unit. This would give me a "pipe" that is flexible along its width as well as length to work through walls or ceilings. Being insulated by its own structure, it would prevent sweating.
    On a related topic: I plan to have the cabinets installed for easy removal to provide for easy removal, and have angled panels (where the ceiling and walls meet) that are installed for easy removal, as I plan to have the area behind this panel to be the run for various pipes, electrical lines, and ducts. All this to facilitate repair, maintenance, or upgrades that are likely inevitable.

    Gotta' give ya' credit Jarrod, I'd rather sell the van and build another than do a retro-fit ducted A/C. You should increase your ask for all the love, sweat, and tears you've put in GHOST. A nickel for every cuss word uttered in the process sounds about right.

    Another consideration is if you drive this in cold climates where road treatments are used it will shorten the life of the under mount condenser. HVAC guys who work on RVs and semi trucks that use these systems recomment completely enclosing the condenser in the winter to prevent this as it's an expensive repair.

    • @CruiseNComfortUSA
      @CruiseNComfortUSA 4 роки тому +1

      Our condensers are automotive grade condensers and fans so they are normally used without the metal shroud behind a vehicle grill .... but you are right if you wrap it in the winter it will last longer.

      @@g2gc I would suggest a lt wt aluminum box that could be bolted in place. Another option would be a marine grade waterproof canvas rap that you could snap in place. If you're full time in it the aluminum box would present storage problems that could be resolved with the canvas cover.

    • @g2gc

      John Tatman thank you. I like the marine cover idea. Could use it also when not running a/c but driving on muddy/ dirt/sandy roads. Maybe cruise N comfort can partner w a Bimini top or marine covers outfitter to make you some as an optional accessory for winterizing...positioning snaps right on your plate. Great system

    • @JarrodTocci
      @JarrodTocci  4 роки тому

      In theory I guess it would of. Why I don't like spray insulation in a van is because rodents actually feed off it so I didn't want it to become a feeding ground for then if there was any way for them to get in. It's doubtful they would but didn't even want to take that chance. Also hard to control that spray from a can so I took the easiest, most effective way with how I did it

    Wiring should be run in enclosures or pipe, you think because it's 12 volt it's safe. Yes safe from electrocution, but the danger here is not electrocution IT IS FIRE. Any damage physical or by heat from some other source which damages the wiring can cause fires. A sharp metal object which damages both conductors run closely together or the positive shorted to the van ground may cause a high resistance short which at high current capacity can cause a lot of heat (red hot heat) you can have a fire in seconds. Just take a look on coparts web site of all the Rv's that have burned because of bad electrical issues. Protect those wires, also the same with the ones under the Van that you have now mounted sharp metal nearby. Electrical wiring is made insulated to protect them from each other in a enclosure. Very few types are manufactured to be run in open air subject to physical damage. Retired Electrician

    • @CruiseNComfortUSA
      @CruiseNComfortUSA 4 роки тому +10

      The base HD-12L is currently on sale for $4295.00. We have lesser price units but they dont have the energy saving features and technology that the HD series has. The HD series has power saving technology that slows the compressor when the evaporator cools down either from the environment temperature getting colder or from lower blower speed. This eliminates the cost of buying more lithium/ solar to run less efficient more power hungry 110 volt systems or so called 12 volt systems that have secret internal inverters. Our system is truly 12 volt and utilizes rare earth magnet compressors. We actually hand build every unit to order right here in Phoenix, Arizona and test the units 3 times before they ship...we call it small batch ac. We could have it manufactured with less expensive components, but I believe that would sacrifice the quality of the unit-and we couldn’t say they are #builtnotbought. Our systems are not disposable either. If you have any issues past the warranty period, and the unit is currently in production, call us and we may be able to diagnose the unit over the phone (via phone support from Phoenix- not overseas 😁) If we can't diagnose it, box it up and send it back and we will evaluate the product at no charge to you (other than shipping) and give you a fair price to fix it. I believe items should be able to be fixed and not thrown away. I don’t usually have time to read comments, so email or message me on the site and I will explain more of our secret sauce and the magic pixie dust that powers our units! ❄️❄️❄️❄️

      I did know the cost and I think I talked about it very little. I should of talked about it more but the problem once I say $4500 people get really scared. Cooling down a space with battery power is going to cost some money. The other good products cost around $3000 and the knock offs will be around $1300, but then people get them and they don't work nearly as well and I always hear "I wish I spent the extra money for the nicer ones."

      Jarrod Tocci - GHOST , Right now I’m in the Denver area and just buy a happy accident I ran into somebody at a lumberyard who is loading lumber on his vehicle then I went and asked him what are you gonna do with that and he said Build cabinetry and I said I want to build cabinetry but in a van and he laughed and said I’m building cabinetry in a van for a customer. He very kindly sent me his material list but after I started going through it, I thought I can’t afford what he’s using. He did tell me if I needed any help or questions should be more than happy to help me as a do it yourself to. And he did tell me that he was selling the van for $150,000 to a customer that’s already hired him to build it. You don’t seem very keen on Ford transit but I’m thinking about buying a 2019 350 extended wheelbase extra long and they were about 14 feet long. I thought about Mercedes but I’m hoping that in a year I’ll have gotten all the kinks out of living in a van and I can head to South America. And I’m choosing a gasoline engine just because a diesel engine would become greatly expensive to work on and possibly have problems finding parts somewhere other than in America. I want to feel more free to travel and explore more.
