  • In today's video I explore the Baltic capital of Riga, Latvia. I am in town for three full days and explore a lot of the old town. I check out historic sites such as the House of the Black Heads and St Peter's Church. I try some delicious Latvian food and their famous balsam liquor. I try out a few local cafes. I discover the history of the Soviet occupation and also visit the KGB museum and much more.

Wow! Latvia looks absolutely stunning and has so much history to check out. Such gorgeous detail. Beautiful parks! Love the leaves on the ground. I would love to check out the market and try some things there. Those dumplings look delicious - tart cherry! How interesting! Fantastic video and tour as always! 😊

Thanks for watching. I can't wait to return in the summer, it was one of the best trips I have been on in awhile.

Glad you enjoyed, yes I really recommend coming back in summer! The city feels way more lively, also worth it to check out Jurmala beach and the Rundale palace in summer!

Great video! The area around the city canal was an esplanade, construction was forbidden there, and in the 1850s-60s the fortifications and the wall were removed, and parks were established. The Bastion Park and the hill in it, you showed it, was constructed using excessive soil of those fortifications, so it is kind of decorative.
Next time you are in Riga, try Folk Allus Bar (FOLKKLUBS ALA), they are very not far from the Occupation Museum and they've a wide variety of local beers on tap etc. Also, the Rozengrals Medieval restaurant is very interesting for the experience and its historic cellars and medieval dishes etc.
    Have a good one!

Very nice and informative clip; thanks for sharing! Kinda surprised about the choice of the season to visit Riga, but nevertheless Baltic states are all beautiful and very cultural. The architecture and parks reminded me of Belgrade where we lived for two and a half years back in the 80s… and it was originally on top of my list to retire to, but then decided on Spain as our base to move around Europe and keep enjoying the rich culture and history of the continent.
Another city that I would recommend is Stuttgart. That city keeps surprising me every time I visit.
By the way, I am still impatiently waiting for your clip on how things went with your residency extension. We’ll have to do it in Alicante’s Exteranjeria next June; and I think you’ll need to do it (or already have done it) there too now that you’re residing in Alicante province.
Awaiting your update on that with much appreciation for your work.
The quality of your clips are getting better and better; and are a joy to watch.
    Thanks again,
    Mike

Thank you. I visited in November because my daughter finishes up her work at the end of the month and returns to Canada, so it was a now or never situation. Unfortunately our schedules didn't line up when it was warmer. I am going to do a trip across all three Baltic states in the summer. I looked up Stuttgart, it looks beautiful. Definitely a city that I would like to visit. I was hoping to have the renewal complete already and to be working on the video. They have up to three months to complete the process, hopefully it's sooner than later.
