If theres one thing that blows my mind is the airburst rockets, i didnt know they existed and I knew a LOT about world war 2. I saw this and was like oh uh huh they had rockets then it turns out, yeah, actually germans had airburst rockets set for distance. Crazy stuff.
Yup, they were WGr 21s, used mainly by heavy fighters such as Bf-110s, Me-410s and Ju-88s to break up formations and make the job easier for the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. A lucky direct hit would almost certainly be catastrophic for a B-17 or B-24
They also had a bomb that was dropped from above a bomber formation set to explode after falling 1,000 feet. Some of these bombs contained phosphorus that produced a falling cloud of burning chunks: in photos that is often mis-identified as an exploded bomber going down. However the moment fighter escorts showed up the twin-engined interceptors where swept from the sky and even rockets became rare as they impacted on the speed and maneuverability of a fighter carrying them.
George Morrison was a tail gunner in the 303rd BG and told me about those rockets. The Air War Over Europe was epic. Strategic leadership mistakes overcome by good old American Manufacturing with good enough technology. The problem of CGI movies is that the action is exaggerated: tracer shots were small trails of bullets, not these asteroid like sky trails. Explosions were small, structural failures more often than exploding planes. And these closure speeds seem like jets flying around. And the gunners and pilots are trained to not fire until like 150 yards out, not a half mile away.
Well, besides the historical events, the show did foreshadow it from the beginning. The colonels had mentioned replacements were being sent, several episodes before the replacements were ever shown. The sound engineers rarely get things like that right. I was a Vulcan gunner in the Army, the same 20mm M61 General Electric cannon that's put in jets I was a gunner on, the Army version was mounted in a turret on top of an M113 chassis and was known as the M167A1/A2 Self Propelled Vulcan Air Defense Gun. In 1986 just several weeks before I got out of the Army me and some buddies went to the theater to see the movie Top Gun that everyone was raving about at the time, when it got to the part where the F14's were firing their M61 Vulcan cannons and the sound effect was that of an ordinary belt fed machinegun like an M60 we groaned so loud everyone in the theater looked at us, one day someone is going to explain to Hollywood sound engineers that a 6,000 round per minute 20mm cannon does not sound like a typical .30 caliber belt fed machinegun an Infantry squad would have.
That would be VERY interesting as unlike these bomber crews, there wasn’t a set number of missions they had to complete. It was for the duration or until you were shot down.
Then you should definitely read "A higher call". Franz Stiglers memoirs gives a good insight in the life of a Luftwaffe fighter pilot. Or "I flew for the Fuhrer"

I'm suprised it has few American propaganda and planes get wrecked left right and center. The Flak is very unrealistic tough. Every time it goes off, hot sharp shrapnel should fly everywhere trough the plane if close enough. EDIT = Why are pieces around mark 1:30 falling so slow as if they where on the moon?
About the falling slowly- this actually can happen with airplane wreckage from a break-up, pieces will rotate as they fall in ways that create lift, making them fall quite slowly compared to other pieces. A young woman actually survived a mid-air breakup over the Amazon because of this effect once.
Exactly also on another note lot of material is made hollow and made light so it can lift if it breaks up it lost it most heavy parts engines, bombs, weapons, only mere pieces that often arent heavy remain tumbling

Midnight family cuando la estrenan?
Me on my weekly In-N-Out run
I realize showing swastikas can be problematic, esp for legal reasons in the EU, but can anyone explain why, for this post, APPLE TV chose to blur out the Luftwaffe balkenkreuz (bar cross) on the wing of the Bf109 during the slow motion shot @02:57 ?
Why are their .50 cal AN-M2 machine guns firing so slow? - I thought the aircraft versions fired really fast?????
Best scene and episode in the whole series after this the show was the Masters of the POW camp
챨리브라운과 프란츠스티글러 이야기는 혹시 에피소드에 없는가요?
Wrong bomb group, Charlie Brown was in the 379th bomb group not the 100th
@@scottdunkirk8198 oh! uh~ thanks a lot!
shocking scene
My grandfather would tell me stories about this raid. Even those that survived had PTSD from how awful the CGI was.
Gem of a show
2:57 is that german BF109?
Yerp
Id love for a flags of our fathers style companion series from the perspective of German fighter pilots
I would recommend reading J.G.26 top guns of Luftwaffe
@@eddiemoran8044 Wouldn't say these bomber crews weren't interesting. They suffered the highest % of casualties of any branch of the US military.
@@AB-mw8oz I meant my “unlike these bomber crews” I wasn’t talking about there interest but rather that unlike the liftwaffe they had a set number of missions. You read my comment wrong
Top gun. Maverick
The Germans spoke English.
This is what I would call a true war thunder moment 😂
average war thunder match:
What's the name of the show orthe series?
its in the title of the video, the first four words.
This is a series and the name is: Masters Of The Air
:)
0:30 - YOU GOT A HOLE IN YOUR RIGHT WING!
I have not played a better flight simulator then this !!!!
And the camera options ..... and filming everything and uploading to internet ..... I love the camera options.
Minute 3:17. Looks more like a Spitfire than a Me 109.
Name of the soundtrack?
My Hometown 😅
That was the most defensive I ever saw
Fly it like you stole it.
These Boys, eventually, were numbers and statistics. Losing a whole squadron would make you think, wouldn't it? And still they kept sending them in by the thousands, into a meat grinder, unescorted.

I haven’t had Munster cheese in a decade
Different "Munster" this was the October 10, 1943 raid on Münster *

nice
what? German AAA and German fighter in the same area?
Tragic!
Shot for shot from Memphis Bell it seems
Those poor buggers
CGI reminds me of that plane mission in call of duty ww2
I have to be this guy.
There’s a hole in your left wing.
If you know you know
Funny how they have unlimited ammo
"There's a whole in your left wing!"
