Love the look. Pricing will be key, especially considering there will be no $7500 on purchases until it’s made in the US. I’m sure there will be lease deals as it can be applied to leasing though. 240-250 mile range is a little on the low side to me. Was expecting 275 to 300. Take into account factors like cold weather, wind, uphill, lead foot, etc. and I could see that 240-250 definitely being well under 200 (150-175?) in real world use depending on driving conditions. Spectacular form factor though both inside and out.
The majority of soccer moms who will buy these drive less than 50 miles per day. The range will be totally adequate for most customers. Most families who own an EV also have an ICE vehicle in their household which they can use for long road trips (if they dont want to wait to charge). However, as many EV owners will attest, waiting the 20-30 min to go from 20-80% charge every few hours isnt so bad (apparently).
I can certainly agree with the charge rate. I have the EV6 and in over 32k miles last year with many road trips, I can attest that charge rate is greater than range. Most people do not drive more than 300 miles in a day very often, and even when you do, the quick charge time is where it is at. The 10-80% takes about the time for a restroom break and maybe grabbing food, not enough time to eat it and you are back on the road. You will have one of those breaks about every 3-4 hours after the first departure when you leave at 100% and can get about 5 hours before you stop. Currently if you want more range, you are looking at a larger battery which equates to longer charge times. Someone did a virtual road trip video last year pitting the EV6 and other against a Lucid with over 500 miles of range. On a 2,500 mile road trip, the difference was about 42 minutes for the trip with charge times. I thought originally like many that range was the most important, however after 32k miles, charge rate and times is where it is at.

To open the frunk, you have to press the button twice in a panel left to the steering wheel (no need to open the panel, that handle is for the emergency). Frunk is electrically operated (not lifting, but to open it). Today (08.17.2023), I ordered EV9 GT-Line AWD 99,8kWh 384hv 6P Relax 1st Edition in Ocean Blue Matt colour in Finland. Fully equipped for 89K EUR. Arriving by the end of 2023. Ordered EV6 in May 2022 and accepted delivery in July 2023 for my wife. Super impressed with the quality and the car overall. Was waiting for the EV9 for a long, long time. Finally, can't wait to get it now 😁
WOW!! This thing could be the best styled, designed and equipped new vehicles I have seen! Nice job Kia 👍 I don't think the smaller battery will be much of a real world detriment for buyers. It's fine for just trucking around normal daily driving. That's what this family trickster EV is going to be asked to do most of the time anyway. So I don't see the lower range numbers as a problem. The range will be enough for normal daily use. Remember, Kia is going to want to beat the competition on price. So it makes sense to do it with a slightly smaller battery. Their customers will probably only miss the extra range about ten percent of the time.
There is probably a digital touch screen button that releases the frunk. I assume that manual one you found is if the digital button doesn't work and you need to manual release it.

Good luck trying to find a fast charger that will charge over 200 kw in the DFW area. There are only about 4-6 total. Unless you charge at home or have a Tesla it sucks having an EV here. I'm currently driving an EQS as a loaner for the last week.
its a small thing but I wish Kia stuck with the amber outline DRLs they did on the k5 and gen 1 telluride. they brought back amber DRLs for the gen 2 telluride 2024 model but they aren't outlines anymore. it would have been nice to see this in all of their updated models since the introduction of the k5 and it would have looked great on the EV9 to replace those bright white outline DRLs.
Agree amber DRL was awesome. Also I want answer rear turn signals, I really don't understand why manufactures insist on red, even nowadays that everything is LED
Nice video. When will this ACTUALLY be available in the US? It seems as though all EV makers are “promising “ new mid-size or full-size EV SUVs but not selling any or in large enough quantities!
I don't care for the polka dot lights on the front, or the shiny black plastic on the sides, so I would be happier in the cheaper trim levels that don't include them. I also prefer more sidewall and I suspect a smaller rim is going to be the most efficient one and save weight. I like the frunk for storing things I rarely use like the tire inflator and charge cables, plus things I don't want stolen, but I wonder since this frunk opens by the hood release if someone could smash a window pop the hood and walk off with my laptop and drone. The hood in my Tesla only opens from the center screen, phone app, or key fob. My VW sadly has no frunk despite not having a front motor which is just bad space management IMO. I don't think it's good to lose 50 miles of range from adding a front motor, so I wonder what the tow rating is with the large battery and RWD I would like this large car to carry my bulky toys out of the weather and have no need, or use for the third row and would prefer a bench second row to captains chairs and a big hole. I used to have a Ford Expedition and I had the third row seats stored in my basement the whole time, so the one time I had extra friends they volunteered to sit on the floor in back. My one beef with driving around with the passenger seat pushed all the way forward is it makes it hard to see out the window, so I would prefer that it folded down which is probably difficult with the bolstering. I have to push the front seat up in my ID4, but since the EV9 is 18 inches longer, I'm hoping that the bulky toy could occupy the back and leave the passenger seat for passengers. I don't care for dealers and their greed which is why I didn't get a Telluride/Palisade when they came out as well as some other hot models. I'm always will to wait, or buy something else to avoid paying extra

As always these purchases start with a MSRP dealer relationship where the dealership on principal will not add markups without any material goods added typically called adjustments. Given the tax status of this vehicle, hopefully finding that MSRP lease price will be easy to find and convert if you care to own a CCS inlet EV. Thankfully I have a MSRP dealer and leased my IONIQ 5 experiencing the full $7,500 off the lease price. Your residual value could be lower now given the inlet but if you need three rows with the LiDAR and other high technology brought in style then start sitting in your options asap and then begin that dealership hunt. 🎯 33:04

looks sick....TAKE MY MONEY! I never understood why the ACC's solution to having your hands off the wheel too long, is to turn itself off and try to yeet you into a concrete barrier on the highway, lol.
If you have seen Korean youtube videos, it was clocked on v-box to run 0-100km (0-62mph) in 4.87sec. That's about 4.6 sec 0-60. I'm not sure how is that slow considering this thing is a proper 3 row boxy SUV. Official specs say 5.2sec 0-60, but that number is very conservative. That's faster than RWD Model 3 which is like 3 times smaller lol.
My kids aren't making it more than three hours without a bathroom break anyway. Everything involves a tradeoff. The bigger issue is the janky EA network. Last roadtrip, can't even express how unreliable they are, especially with this summer heat. Charge speed limited to 5kW? GTFOH.
@@jghall00 240 mile range is passable but becomes problematic if: 1. towing 2. battery capacity loss over time (for example, if you lose 15% in 10 years, your 240 mile range becomes ~200 miles, which is really more like 170-180 miles because you probably will plug in at 10-15% and not at 0%)
@@Isaac-un4cndont forget if you’re hauling your whole family (and their stuff) in the winter with wind and freezing temps. That would put the range closer to 200 miles, possibly even less.
@@Isaac-un4cn I use my Expedition to tow. Most people won't be towing any distance with this vehicle. If they are, it's a jet ski to a local boat ramp. I'm sure the newer vehicles will do even better.
Kia Canada or at least in combination with the government, controls dealer markups. What they do here is mandatory dealer add ons like warranty and accessories, but at least you get something in return for the higher price.
This looks awesome, and I've had my eye on it for a whlie, but more and more I'm convinced to wait for solid state batteries. More range, less weight, or same range less cost. Might be a few years for sure, but the range won't be what they say it is, and under 300 kinda rough on road trips TBH. PHEV Santa Fe might be the way to go
You forgot to mention that it will be built in Georgia, USA, so it's eligible for some or all of the IRA tax credits. Great job on the video! It's definitely not for me, but it was explained very well.
Why do you need to select "Driver Only" ? Surely the car knows which seats are occupied? Cars have known that for decades now, in order to do the seatbelt alarm if a seat is occupied and not belted. Maybe that is just an override in case you've set some cargo on a seat.
This looks cool especially bule one BUT Rivian R1S is waaay better. Now unless Kia prices this much below that, it is not worth it. For $80k in US, Rivian have 800HP that does 0-100kmph in 3.5seconds and has good frunk and tesla charger network. If this is not below $60k, it is not worth it. This would have been revolutionary if they had launched last year.
I like everything about this except the range. It's just not good enough. AWD 250 miles in ideal conditions? This car needs a 120-130kwh battery, not 100. Yea it charges fast, but 180 miles on the highway just isn't good enough. I think they are battery constrained and are prioritizing building more cars with smaller batteries. Which, yea there is an argument there, but if im looking at spending 70-80 grand on a 3 row vehicle, it had better have at least a 320 mile range.
Yeah, the 250 is also 100 to 0. So remember to take 30% off for 10-80 charges, and another 10% off since the range will be quoted as combined and not highway. Suddenly that 250 is 150... So almost exactly 2 hours of driving at 75mph, and then you have to stop for 20 minutes to over an hour, depending on the charger you can find.
With that disappointing range they definitely need to adopt NACS and Tesla needs install V4 Superchargers. I don't see a huge market for a family road tripper that can't get out of the city. Of course demand will be huge at launch for the newest shiny thing, but that sheen is going to wear off fast if public charging is a nightmare.
Sooo is this one gonna catch on fire like the Telluride? Seems like the Kia-Hyundai group’s reliability isnt what it used to be. My 2019 Hyundai has been virtually flawless, so has by friend’s. The wife’s 2022 Hyundai and cousin’s 2023 have both been riddled with problem after problem. Coincidence? Who knows… but I’m certainly hesitant to buy anything from the Kia-Hyundai brand now.
These are often second vehicles. Better to give consumers options. Mine only has 100 miles but covers over 90% of our driving. Only paid 14k used for it.
He didnt explain the length stats very well... The way he stated it, you could take it that the overall length of the EV9 is ~ 8 inches longer than the Telluride... He meant the WHEELBASE is ~ 8 longer on the EV9 vs the Tellufide. Overall length is essentially the same.
Should have made it with sliding doors like a minivan. I don't understand the resistance to sliding doors. Very hard and slow to get to the third row, very small luggage space compared to a minivan
Totally agree. I’m not sure what people have against sliding doors but they are far superior to swing doors for the rear. Sliding doors are easily motorized, open up way more entry space, and are so much easier for kids to get and out of without banging into the car next to you. Tesla literally invented these ridiculous Gull Wing doors that are a major fault point on the Model X to avoid using a sliding door which would accomplish essentially everything the gull wing doors can do and more.
There are redundant physical climate controls below the screen for driver & passenger temp, fan speed, and mode so it can primarily just be used as a reference to see what it's set to.
Interesting, I like the look, what the tow capacity and distance it will go is important for my family. The price is also important. I look for the L or most entry model.
It's funny that the market needs bigger, 3-row, vehicles. But somehow the Hummer is too big. (It is, but so are 3-row SUVs that 90% of the owners do not need)
Hummer is 20 inches longer and 10 inches wider lol. It's like comparing Corolla and Suburban. So yeah, Hummer is too big and no 3-row SUVs aren't big - they are just the right size. Also, those who don't need 3 row - buy 2 rows. Those who need 3 row - they need 3 row. Simple.
Thats the difference about kia compared to the teslas, kia can change the style completely many time not like tesla keep all the cars looking the same just slightly changes, Ev9 amazing ❤
Having a simple plan is one thing, but actually doing it is another. This EV9 needs more range and less price. Also, Tesla has no dealer markups - you just buy it online and they deliver to your driveway. Now that is a real simple plan in action! Unlike Kia/Hyundai that has greedy dealers who kill all the value in their cars by adding crazy markups.
Dealer markups? That hand was played during COVID and Americans are owed an apology. I feel like it violatesthe dealer agreement and they should be reprimanded.

I don't think it's good to lose 50 miles of range from adding a front motor, so I wonder what the tow rating is with the large battery and RWD
I would like this large car to carry my bulky toys out of the weather and have no need, or use for the third row and would prefer a bench second row to captains chairs and a big hole.

FINALLY A GOOD 3 row ev after years of waiting!
Nice shoes
level 3 autonomous driving available in the US? here in the EU Lvl 3 is optional
Hey Team TFL! Pick 1 Lyriq lux2 vs EV9. Considerations for us:
-Family of 4 + Labrador
-Soccer Mom replacing 2012 Suburban
-Weekday 70 mile round trip commute
-Charging at home off our Solar
-California with income that tax rebate applies to as well as $6500 local rebates.
❤TFL!!!
the Lyriq is a 2 row, get the EV9 it has more space and 3 extra seats
The lyric is over 70k and is a luxury vehicle. You’re a soccer mom with a dog so the EV9 is much more fitting for you
looks sick....TAKE MY MONEY!
I never understood why the ACC's solution to having your hands off the wheel too long, is to turn itself off and try to yeet you into a concrete barrier on the highway, lol.
Those triangle wheels remind me of the old Range Rovers from the '90s
Spectacular tommy awesome thumbnail
It looks ok, the wheels look ugly af. Doesn’t make me want to cancel my R1S reservation though.
just need to adopt nacs and this would be money
Not playing nice with 800V yet.
My only beef is that it's so slow! Edit: And the range. 240 max miles on the AWD is rough.
GTFOH.
@@jghall00 240 mile range is passable but becomes problematic if:
1. towing
2. battery capacity loss over time (for example, if you lose 15% in 10 years, your 240 mile range becomes ~200 miles, which is really more like 170-180 miles because you probably will plug in at 10-15% and not at 0%)
@@Isaac-un4cndont forget if you’re hauling your whole family (and their stuff) in the winter with wind and freezing temps. That would put the range closer to 200 miles, possibly even less.
@@Isaac-un4cn I use my Expedition to tow. Most people won't be towing any distance with this vehicle. If they are, it's a jet ski to a local boat ramp. Degradation is nearly a none issue for these vehicles. My Focus Electric has no noticeable degradation after 65K miles and it's a six-year old vehicle. I'm sure the newer vehicles will do even better.
The frunk lever is a backup.

22:39 15A! 🔌outlet plug in the cargo? Alex have to microwave the bacon🙏👍
Love the shoes Tommy!
Nice Omega Swatch! ⌚
You didn’t show the rear wiper on either. It’s hung from the top of the window up in the rear diffuser/ spoiler. Finally!
Cool car! But the way to "keep the planet alive" is to NOT buy a giant car if you don't really need one.
Someone once said that kia is fast-fashion of the automobile industry.
Take a shot every time Tommy says "bold."
PHEV Santa Fe might be the way to go
You'll be waiting forever then...
@@laloajuria4678I've been fine with gas for all these years. I can wait indefinitely 😂
The triangle wheel reminds me of the 90's Pathfinder or Range Rover
The base model is much better looking, not so frantic and overstyled. Love the triad wheels.
You forgot to mention that it will be built in Georgia, USA, so it's eligible for some or all of the IRA tax credits.
Great job on the video! It's definitely not for me, but it was explained very well.
It will be imported from Korea. Plant in Georgia will only start producing EV9 in 2025 or 2026.
@@azerogliev6520 Thanks.
2024 US production.
Agree but can you still get R1S for $80 though?
I like everything about this except the range. It's just not good enough. AWD 250 miles in ideal conditions? This car needs a 120-130kwh battery, not 100. Yea it charges fast, but 180 miles on the highway just isn't good enough. I think they are battery constrained and are prioritizing building more cars with smaller batteries. Which, yea there is an argument there, but if im looking at spending 70-80 grand on a 3 row vehicle, it had better have at least a 320 mile range.
The range is fine. it needs superchargers...
That silver Kia rims give me SN95 3 spike rim vibes.
I feel silver color alloys always look better than black hands down
At 1:05 ...it seems the same team that styled this thing...are the same guys who "styled" the toy Tonka trucks for 2023
Once again a great review. Really good features but the range is not enough.
How many golf bags will it carry!
The Versa should be the top selling car for the next 12 months and prices will come down.
Good looking car, thanks Tommy
With that disappointing range they definitely need to adopt NACS and Tesla needs install V4 Superchargers. I don't see a huge market for a family road tripper that can't get out of the city. Of course demand will be huge at launch for the newest shiny thing, but that sheen is going to wear off fast if public charging is a nightmare.
Are you sure those aren't just wheel covers?
Kia & Hyundai are killing it.
They are all junk, buy Japanese
Is there a drink button on the key? Or app? That seems really janky
300 miles should be the standard for ev's.
These are often second vehicles. Better to give consumers options. Mine only has 100 miles but covers over 90% of our driving. Only paid 14k used for it.
@@jghall00 seems pointless imo
Why?
@@user-tx9zg5mz5p My other vehicle is an Expedition with the 3.5 turbo. I saved a lot of gas money and wear.
@@wzDH106 why not 😂
He didnt explain the length stats very well...
Take away the mesh headrest, give full physical controls for radio and climate, have an option for 2 rows and I'd be sold
So not only are climate controls the dreaded touchscreen interface, it also is partially obstructed by the steering wheel?
There are redundant physical climate controls below the screen for driver & passenger temp, fan speed, and mode so it can primarily just be used as a reference to see what it's set to.
Tommy got flewed out 😂
Wood not sustainable 🤣🤣🤣 give me a break.
😂
Interesting, I like the look, what the tow capacity and distance it will go is important for my family.
The price is also important.
I look for the L or most entry model.
With that limited range, you really need the fast charge. Too bad the fast chargers are effectively vapourware.
Simple.
people use 3 rows all the time. minivans are 3 row. they're useful.
How about the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, though?
The triangle rim looks like an old Saab wheel.
Thats the difference about kia compared to the teslas, kia can change the style completely many time not like tesla keep all the cars looking the same just slightly changes, Ev9 amazing ❤
I can see a Cadi look om the headlights.
Hopefully they price it in accordance to materials they are offering (plastics, plastics, plastics everywhere instead of any luxurious materials).
Totally agree. Hyundai has a very simple business plan. Be better than Tesla on all levels and crush the other competition!!!!
@@azerogliev6520 💯 Correct.
Looks beautiful.
Range is everything.
Absolute beauty
Dealer markups? That hand was played during COVID and Americans are owed an apology. I feel like it violatesthe dealer agreement and they should be reprimanded.
