  • Thousands of Russians are taking to the streets to protest Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, despite a new law forbidding protests. Nadya Tolokonnikova, the founding member of Pussy Riot, joins MSNBC's Lawrence O’Donnell 10 years after she was released from prison for singing an anti-Putin protest song.

    She's not just an amazing woman, she's also amazingly brave.
    It may not look like it today, but Russia has an extremely bright future ahead of them, as long as there are people like her who are willing to stand up for themselves and each other, in the face of such horrific consequences and potential danger.
    This just supports the fact that the world is not against the Russian people, only the horrific acts perpetrated by Putin, who is doing what he's doing in the name of Russia. It is clear to the entire world that this has nothing to do with the people, as Putin has made it perfectly clear to everyone by now, that individual Russians don't have a voice in their own country.

    • @MarkRaymondLuce
      @MarkRaymondLuce 2 роки тому +19

      Let's be clear about reality; Russia has no bright future, it only has darkness and subjugation in its future because that is all that the majority of its population knows historically and has experienced historically, and it is what they expect! Their history books and post WWII leaders have led them on to believe that their Saint Stalin alone defeated Hitler and his Third Reich Nazi's, there is no mention in their history books and post WWII leaders that it was the food, medical, and military shipments from the USA Lend-Lease program via the Barents Sea that sustained the Russians and made it possible for their eastward advance towards Berlin, Russia was doomed in WWII without the food, medical, and military shipments from the USA. Russians do not know this historical reality…at all - except for their dear authoritarian kleptocratic leaders and university professors and students who are about to be imprisoned and or exterminated.

      To put this in perspective, imagine Trump being president for 20 years and Fox News being the only information outlet. Now imagine 70% of the population being MAGA diehards. That is Russia today folks. They hate the west and fully support the "special military operation" in Ukraine. They held a "Trump style" convoy in Moscow on sunday. It will take decades and a civil war for Russians to change which probably means WW3. The world is really going to hate them if that happens!

      It is not quite that simple. To leave you must have someplace to go. I have a friend there and once asked her why she didn't relocate (because she was so unhappy.) First understand they do still love their country. Everyone does, mostly, right? But when they've had enough and want to leave you must find a new country and become it's citizen. This is VERY expensive for them and you must have needed skills or you are not accepted anywhere. And neighboring countries only take so many people a year.
      Is not so different from immigrating to the USA, actually. A doctor or IT specialist would get in far before a cab driver or waitress. So many are stuck there with no choice. She has been saving for over 8 years to leave. She had another 2 years to save before she would have been able to go. Now I think maybe it won't ever happen in her lifetime. I'm sure what she had saved will be gone quickly with sanctions.

Do you really want to say that to black Americans who not only are liberally sanctioned and killed by police, but are damned openly by the former president and his supporters for simply 'protesting' by taking a knee in public?.... or marching en masse not to be killed? Hello? Are those the freedoms you were talking about? The autocrat Putin was nodding his head in agreement when institutional US was doing such things. Presently, there is an attempt to literally target minority voting districts with marginalizing legislation so as to compromise their votes, much less the desire by many to simply declare elections void and have the national government determined formally by the free choice of the Vice President. Our freedoms to participate and criticize? Hello? WTF are you talking about? Do you mean 'Our' as in white folks? Please put the nationalist crackpipe down. And as for god? Have you no shame?

    This mess is all part of a larger problem that has been festering for most of human history: As long as free markets continue to unintentionally enable dictators, they have no incentive to reform. Punitive sanctions are mostly ineffective because they encourage defiance and retaliation.
    If we really want to save and spread democracy, free countries must work together and implement a powerful and consistent, INCENTIVE BASED policy of massive taxes on ALL imports, with incremental discounts linked to democratic reforms in less free countries. Free trade only with other free countries. Reforms made by a country must be perceived as self-generated, not as capitulation. (see Dale Carnegie)
    This policy would cost consumers nothing if it was offset by domestic tax reductions, so there really is no excuse to not start immediately. Plus, the eventual savings in military spending and market disruptions due to conflict, would more than offset any temporary negative effects.
    Keep in mind, the world-wide market race-to-the-bottom, in which markets seek the lowest price, regardless of human rights, is THE PRIMARY reason that oppression and poverty still exist. This crisis shows that free people cannot wait any longer. Nothing will really change until dictatorship is no longer an economically viable system.

    Will Russia sentence the small children they've arrested for protesting to 15 years? I've seen several kids locked up for protesting, they won't get this long sentence will they?

    This is Bonhoeffer on Evil "One of our most remarkable and yet irrefutable experiences is that evil -- often in a surprisingly short span of time -- turns out to be dumb and impractical." Dietrich Bonhoeffer in a book of some of his more memorial sayings, Wondrously Sheltered

    For Americans 15 years it doesn't sound that bad, but in Russia It's more than you can get for murder, consider that you have to spend it in Russian prison, every year there is -2 years of your life expectancy

    I love her music, her activism and how she will never give up. All the things she's been through are heartbreaking. She should be remembered by history, because what she's doing is changing the world. I love her sooo much!

      @Peter Kalberer you mad bro👀
      We've seen proud boys weep, kavenaugh weep, Rottenmouse weep, insurrectionists 🐑 weep, lol all looked like pu**ies from my point of you.
      Now, I tried to be very gentle in my response to you and I hope you don't end up balling your eyes out, like a typical rightwinger🤣✌
