Wow...So glad to finally get a chance to see this. My grandmother and Helen were very close. She used to tell me about the music documentary that was filmed when they were in Europe in the early '60s. I spotted my grandmother in the crowd of dancers at the end of this clip. I couldn't miss her in the black gown with the spaghetti straps...Oh they were both something else. What an incredible surprise. I love UA-cam
How cool is that? 👍😄
@@starsfan6878 - VERY cool
Wow! Thanks for sharing. 👍
Lorenzo Baines , I remember when I saw this for the first time, I just cried and cried, watching a snippet of her in the prime of her life. I miss her so. She always wanted to see it and never did. This was always one of her favorite stories of her time in Europe. It was a big, big deal for her given what was going on back in the US at the time. There are other little music sketches that she participated in as well. (I found them all on DVD) My grandfather was stationed in Germany in the service and told her to just go with Helen and have fun. (Previously, a single photo was all I had documenting their experience) They both talked and reminisced about the good times they had. Something else...

Amazing how life has its own twists and never the Blues was so well explained (or like we say in Portugal... it's Fado!)
Many thank's for sharing!!
Some of the defining members of the blues.
Listening to their music is a priviledge but watching them perform is simply pure bliss...
Kasmah Mohamed You are write, the happiness is everywhere.
Well said
wah..rare Kak Mah ni.. minat Blues ka?
No auto tune..no computer tecno..no crazy light show.just raw blues.. nothing to hide behind.best music ever played.
Oh please. To each their own. I love techno just as much as the blues. You are not elevating one genre by putting down another. The down to earth blue has no need for snobs!
@@magesalmanac6424these guys that play the root of blues have lived thru a very hard time to say the least all due to the color of their skin. techno is not created from past trauma so i think it’s safe to say you can put one above the other especially if one plays instruments using hands and the other using ai
normal
If the blues was money I'd be the richest man in town
AMEN
Isn't that the truth!
if I could sing the blues really good id be the richest man around
Sushant Sagar. I'd be the second......
But then you wouldn't know the blues as much!
A stage full of legendary musicians and artists! Outstanding!
THANK YOU! Helen was a very dear friend of mine, and I cannot thank you enough for posting this. A million times, thank you!
I love her voice.
The Best thing to ever come out of America so much talent so many hits written by Willie and t bone. Memphis Slim. Wow thanks y’all from Canada. All the way from the Delta up Hiway 61 to Chicago Texas too (sorry t bone )

I have got his album in 1964 and so I had found my way to love the BLUES until today and really further on !!!! But on the LP you cannot find any information about Helen Humes, she was only mentioned inside on page 2. So today I am so lucky listening .....
T-Bone Walker, Willie Dixon, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee. All-Star indeed. What a band.
It makes my heart fill with joy to see these magnificent musicians play. They are legends indeed, but seeing them having so much fun making this beautiful music makes me come back here and watch this every now and than, to have my fill.of happiness.
this is REAL blues !!!!!!!!!!!
so amazing .. epic ... i am suprised they got all this talent on that tiny stage ✌
This is insanely epic. When were these giants ever featured together besides this presentation? Amazing to see & hear!!
There were a couple blues/folk festivals in Europe in the '60s that used to pull together all-star blues bands (and a few recordings are floating around on UA-cam)... But this lineup is probably the most impressive as far as legends of the blues. I had it on in the background when I first heard it, and when she named the band members, I about fell out of my chair.
I know
I think they couldve got at least another 4 or 5 legends on the same stage. Stella line up !
...this should be put in a time capsule and shot into space so that future generations and aliens know we once had soul.
If I was "of age" in the 50's these are the exact places I would have been hanging out on weekends.
This is an all star cast and it shows.
You can hear it too.
No Lights No Speakers No Air-Conditioning No Cables,. Only Blues.
Not much to get excited about it in life anymore... But I can watch this and every time I watch it I get excited all over again.
Can't stop smiling, this video makes me happy
Wow! McGhee ... Dixon ... Terry ... with her ... whoa, there's some serious heavy hitters playing together! Great video!
You forgot T-bone !
And how about t-bone and memphis huh 😂
You forgot T-Bone Walker. An inspiration to B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix Chuck Berry, and countless others.
Still my favorite blues group from 2 years ago when I was living in a balcony. God bless the blues musicians for making beautiful music for tough times.
What an incredible line up! Great quality recording also. Thanks for the upload.
i love how they all start to dance seems really fun
They are doing the latest dance craze from the early 1960's called the "Twist"!
That performance is so on point that even the fan is in rhythm
so glad this gem performance was preserved. Thanks
Not only incredible in every way, but also a very strong argument for bringing back the twist.
Haha so genteel it starts, shaking it loose, how can you watch/listen without dancing, reminds me of the best about being human.
Blues, don't let me down.... this music invites the soul to healing and transformative inner dimensions-- and somehow fun dimensions beyond the pain!
They're the reason I love America for. Such a talented and cool bunch of musicians. Look at the expression on their faces while playing. They're realy enjoying it. Priceless.
Super, yo no los había escuchado. No me morí sin haberlos oído. Que PUTERIA.

Twistin the night away..this is just too good! Folks this is real blues here.

God bless, love black folks, such wonderful spirits !!!
AKLIMI KAYBEDİYORUM HER SEFERİNDE
One night the stars and moon lined up and all landed on a stage. The energy turned to light and sound and took us on a ride.
Memphis Slim is such a talented person.
Thank God for UA-cam.. chills down my spine 🎸
Thank you for this nostalgic piece. The Twisting at the end was a bonus.
Damn! Y'all done dug up actual footage of the man who taught Chuck berry how to play!! I'm in love with this 😍❤️💋

This Blues number is one of the best Blues I've ever heard in my life, right next to Hendrix Red House.

The real dream team.

Helen Humes is one of my husband's relatives. It's so awesome to see more people appreciating her music.
I love how she dances on the second jam lol.

These guys know their trade.
Check out the "Flame Maple" neck on the back of that Stand up BASS!!!
Hahahaa Back then, I'm sure that was not a "Luxury" But GOOD Wood was automatically used
when building a fine musical instrument.
This whole presentation is so classy, from start to finish.🤗 I just love how everybody sings the blues no matter who they are in the band. So many legends on one stage. I had no idea they performed together before. Such a treat that it was recorded and the people dancing having so much fun!
Love how it starts rockin' about the 5:30 mark! Groovy little dance party!
What a voice💋
wow. i love this
Enormously hot band. Great to see Sonny and Brownie outside their regular act and Jump Jackson is a familiar name to liner-notes readers, just toss in Memphis Slim, Willie Dixon, T-Bone Walker, and of course the delicious Helen Humes. Memphis Slim looks so sweet when he's singing. Sudwestfunk indeed.
An allstar group
I love it

Why such language? This is good clean fun and you making it nasty with such..can we word things more appropriately? This is the real thing here..amazingly awesome..
Holy fuck, what beautiful noise.. What a collection of sound... This melts my heart x
All star band... the greats... if them British boys hadn't a found them they'd still be stuck in the mud 'cause nobody over here had the guts or the sense to embrace it.
Mark Lecuona True
+Mark Lecuona I don't know where you were at the time but millions of white southerners like me know all about the blues and we didn't need any instruction from Mick Jagger.
You can't separate what you know today about the blues and why you know about those blues from the contributions made by Eric Clapton and The Bluesbreakers and Keith Richards amongst others in the early 60s. I was born in Tallahassee Florida in 1958 and grew up in the deep south so you can't tell me I'm not a southern boy. The fact is black musicians were starving and were not honored by this country like today until the Brits honored them first. Ever heard of the chitlin circuit? Black musicians back in the day had to play in certain places in the South because they were not welcome in others. I remember how life was in the early sixties towards black people so don't try to rewrite history and pretend that they were being glorified. That came later when the Allman Brothers received that cross-over message when Duane Allman played with Wilson Pickett. The people who dug up Robert Johnson we're not millions of southern white boys.
I pretty much agree with what you said except that people pretend like all the Black people who loved those artists just don't count for anything. Lots and lots of Black artists played to packed houses for decades before Mick Jagger or Keith Richards even knew what blues music was. Louis Jordan came to play the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee and sold the place out for a week straight in the late 40s. The audience was segregated, but the audience was there.
T-Bone Walker was practically a folk legend in his own time among his fellow blues musicians. I agree that these wonderful musicians needed help be brought to a wider(read white American) audience, but let's not pretend they were playing on their back porches in the Delta either.
Fair enough exchange of information between the two of you.
But as for the initial statement "nobody over here had the guts or the sense to embrace it"... I would only say that you might want to qualify that by saying 'from the 1960s era.'
Reason is because BB King, Blues Man Big Bill Broonzy, Barbara Lynn, Howlin Wolf, Bluesman Little Milton, Gatemouth Moore, Blues Man Johnny Johnson, and many others were all quite clear that there *was* a white dude many years *before* the British invasion that "had the guts" (
Probably the biggest moment in music history
