I find that using grocery pick up helps me stay on budget! I can see my total as I'm adding things to the cart and a lot less impulse buys. Plus I can look through my pantry/kitchen for what I have and not have to guess at the store. 😊
Rotisserie chicken all the way! Pick it and use or freeze some for later. Just, let the bones cook longer in a slow cooker. So good! Keep a bag of scrap vegetables in the freeze just for broth!
My adult daughter has found me watching Meals with Maria a few times and when she heard this one she said, "Doesn't she annoy you by always saying if you don't have ...?" I realized that I always just think of it as info for Maria's hopefully ever expanding views pool. Keep bringing us these great ideas along with the possible substitutions!
Oh no doubt about it, I definitely love the substitutions and options! Just that I was called out on it by an ignorant child aged 41 (who doesn't cook, by the way)(no matter how hard I've tried)
I’m all about roll over ingredients, quick meals or crock pot cooking. Thanks for the new ideas! I’m for sure making that lasagna soup before it gets to hot, and that Brussels sprouts salad looks delicious!!!
Bouillon beats purchased boxed or canned broth in my opinion. One big plus of it is if one wants something a bit more beefy or chicken-y, just add more cubes or powder. Boxed broth comes as is and if you are going to strengthen it and use bouillon, you may as well JUST use bouillon. I don't follow the one cube per cup rule, I do something like five cubes to three cups for added flavor. The price of boxed broth or canned may seem cheap but it isn't when you add up the cups needed especially if you use it for every meal calling for broth or base. Bouillon is a great starter for many things. And sometimes I just add a cube to a pasta, etc.. and don't even mix it with water, I just drop it into the cream or cheese sauce, or tomato base as the meal is cooking. I like the cubes as they are good indefinitely. Powder you do a spoonful with tends to get hard where you can hardly dig out a spoonful. Better than Bouillon is not a very economical choice in comparison either. Cubes are a pain in opening the foil on each one but worth it by far imo. Making one's own broth is far cheaper too but of course one has to do the work and spend the time. Jmo.
Watched this on my tv but had to come over to my pc to see it again to be able to use the thumbs-up. So many great ideas here! I'm not a bulk cooker...here it is just Hubby and me but I am always interested in finding new meals.
Hi Maria!! Great video thank you!! I definitely need to make that Italian Salad as it looks amazing! ❤ A good use for leftover salami is on PIZZA!! It's different from pepperoni and it tastes amazing!😊
Thanks for the video! The lasagna soup looks amazing and I will try this week. I am a veggie so I sub the meat for beans ( I ll do a white bean in this soup) and add the seasonings that are in Italian sausage. I can’t wait to try. Have a great day and thank you!
Tip: if you use a binder clip on your instant pot your bowl won’t move around when u are browning your meat or sauté your veggies. Remove the clip from pot when ready to close lid. Very handy tip. Saw this on @Mandy in the making channel 👍🏼
Such a great video! I can't wait to go check out the article. I will say I know what salad I am going to make for Easter dinner! That chickpea, salami and provolone!
The Greek chicken looks delicious, but I would’ve definitely broiled the top at the end to give that skin on the chicken a good crispy texture and a little char on the tomatoes. 🤤😋
Loved this video so much! I have been making lasagna soup for the past couple of years. It is a great soup that can also be made with ground beef, pork, chicken, and turkey italian sausage. I have even made a vegetarian version using that tofu vegetarian meat substitute product that is also super delicious. I have also used broken up lasagna noodles and any leftover boxes of any other pasta that was in my pantry as well. I love that you always say in your videos to “use what you have in your pantry.” That is great sage advice to give to the beginner home cook. You have such a lovely family. God bless!✌️💕
I've taken a 1/2 cup of buttermilk, add to regular milk, and leave on counter about 6 hours or longer. Buttermilk! Can replace sour cream for buttermilk. Buttermilk keeps a LONG time past best buy dates. Smell it, you'll know if it's bad! If it doesn't have that fresh smell, toss it. If it does, shake and use. I've used buttermilk 2 months past best buy. I know it sounds gross, I promise, it's good.
The recipes look great. I also agree you have to have a sweet treat to keep sanity. The cost of making a whole batch of choc chip cookies is still less than one concrete from the ice cream shop! I'm loving your shorts!
With the buffalo...could it be mixed, divided into two bowls. One bowl gets buffalo sauce the other, no sauce. Only thing is keeping track which are which...or parents have to take a bite of the roll before the kiddos. 😉
HI Maria, I finally broke down and bought all the Autie Nono's seasonings. I tasted them and boy are they good!! I was really surprised. I thought that they might be a little too salty or too plain. Not at all!!. Can't wait to use them!!😀
Lots of good ideas but I wouldn’t necessarily say these are “frugal” or “strict budget” meals. Several recipes called for MANY ingredients that you’d have to buy; like the Brussels sprouts salad. ☹️😵💫

😂😂 you got it!
I agree that being flexible in the kitchen is a must and I think she is is giving less experienced cooks options they may not know.

I appreciate her suggestions of swaps as sometimes I wouldn’t have thought of her swap!

Glad someone suggested your channel ☺️ been enjoying it!
to easily remove sausage from its casing quickly and cleanly. soak sausages in cold water for about 15 minutes and they slip right out with no waste

Yes! I need to remember that!
Such a great video! I can't wait to go check out the article. I will say I know what salad I am going to make for Easter dinner! That chickpea, salami and provolone!
I like using the mafalda shaped noodles for lasagna soup. They look like little baby lasagna noodles :)
The Greek chicken looks delicious, but I would’ve definitely broiled the top at the end to give that skin on the chicken a good crispy texture and a little char on the tomatoes. 🤤😋
I know I will be eating everyone of these recipes. Oh my! Deliciousness. My hubby is going to love the sliders. Thank you for all these ideas.
Yay! Enjoy!
Looks like more great food. I'm on hold at the moment so I can't watch right now, darn!
Soon ❤️

You can make buttermilk by adding 1Tbs of vinegar to a cup of milk. In spite of the name there isn't any butter in buttermilk.
Lots of inspo in this video!!! Ty!! Can’t wait to try some
Love Love Love this!! Thank u Maria 😁
Hi Maria, all of the meals looks delicious ,my favorite is the Italian Pasta Salad.😊❤🙏

These recipes look delicious. :) What brand of red wine vinegar do you use? Thanks.
Love your channel and all of your ideas ❤
Ben's little feet - so sweet! ❤🦶🦶

That’s not a bad idea!
You marketed the soup as pasta to your kids! That cracked me up! 😂😂😂
If you remove the seeds from the chipotle peppers they will be more mild (it is a bit tedious). I like the flavor and not the heat.
As far as meat and cheese in your salad you can order a quarter slice hunk at the deli and dice at home

Maria, I get the Regina brand red wine vinegar
Thank you!
Thank you
And greetings from New Zealand
cool
You can separate the thighs from the legs of those chicken quarters you have. It's easy to do.
😃😅🥰

I can only afford $250 a month.
I have a bunch of other videos that can help with that!! Check out my budget meals playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLQk6liR5UNFXCX_x7r4SjFukvbYV5cXYk.html
