► What is this startup series?
2 best friends living in New York, ‪@FryingPan‬ , a software engineer who worked at multiple big tech companies, and ‪@nang88‬ , a software engineer who worked at a top high frequency trading firm, who just recently quit to do startups, join together in search of the highest leverage use of their time in order to create positive impact in this world. Our current idea? Pear.AI, an open-source AI powered code editor. Join us on our mission, either as a user or contributor, to empower people to build out their ideas by reducing the time from ideation to conception: trypear.ai (See latest video for any changes).
    ► Who am I?
My name is Pan, I recently quit my half a million dollar a year job in California and moved to New York. I still work as an engineer, but my job is much more flexible now so I have time to pursue my childhood passion for creating content. I'm originally from Montreal, Canada, I'm 6'5 and speak French, Mandarin and English fluently. I've lived in many places and have done arts, social sciences and also hard sciences. I aim to inspire, entertain and educate by sharing my experiences and stories through the means of uploading my consciousness to the internet. Welcome to my channel.

I think the problem is a great problem! Couple points, you aren’t reaching any key decision makers. Don’t bother pitching to employees, simply act important and ask for the manager. And your pitch should be less about the solution (influencers) and more about “we know a secret way of bringing more customers through your door that is cheaper and 10x more effective than the alternatives” (whatever they are)
Try again, it’s only your first day!

Here's an idea for you: Put on a suit and make yourself look like a professional. Talk as if you own 10 companies. Always try to speak first with the manager, or if it's a staff member receiving you, talk to them as if you are from the FBI. This is a strategy or approach for someone to appear professional and authoritative in a business or professional setting. It advises dressing in a professional manner, adopting a confident demeanor, and speaking assertively, as if one were a successful business owner or a person of authority. Additionally, it recommends prioritizing communication with managers and employing a confident attitude, even when interacting with staff members. The reference to "talk to them like you are from the FBI" implies speaking with authority and assertiveness, as if conducting an official investigation or interrogation. Overall, the statement suggests a method for portraying oneself as a credible and influential figure in a professional environment. Your Welcome...

Hey Pan, one thing that might make this process faster is just phone call local businesses and ask if you could speak to the manager. I talked to about 20 businesses to try and get a coupon partnership going and about 4 of them let me talk to the manager and became interested. It might be faster than physically going to each destination. But the success rate might depend on the type of business and location you're in. Maybe give it a go and see what results in higher success.

Jo Pan, I normally never comment, but your videos resonate wonderfully with my life. I recently quit my permanent job to start my own social media agency in the Netherlands. Many small and medium-sized businesses (€0.5 to €2.5 mil revenue yearly) here find the fees of larger agencies too steep, the salespeople behind them too impersonal, or simply don't have the time for it and therefore miss out on the opportunities of social media. I'm jumping on this with quality social media maintenance at one of the lowest prices in the market combined with a hyper-personal approach throughout the entire customer journey. In the past weeks, I've acquired my first small clients. Your videos give me a lot of motivation and I continue to follow your entrepreneurial journey with great pleasure.

i imagine for this stuff maximising your 'luck' surface area is critical in the early stages to get the ball rolling, i don't think youve failed enough yet to pivot imo

I think the big issue with how you approach it right now is how you speak about it to the businesses. like you said, u dont need to give them any technical ideas or even talk about "influencer marketing". u can just describe it as advertising services which utilize social media. find or bs metrics about how much it drives sales.
overall good luck with this, i def see it working out, i just think the approach for getting customers needs some work rn
