Very interesting and skilful. Going back when, I used a lots of the 90340 in 17. Single or double maggot on the old Lyttleton winter league. Very sharp hook and stayed sharp for a good few pounds off dace and bonus Roach. 👍
Back in the 1990s Mustad seemed to be into producing hooks with odd-sized numbers, 13, 15, etc. I did a report with someone else to Sid Sarbutts, who was then in charge of Mustad's interests in the UK, to the effect that they were out of kilter with other mnanufacturers and that this might put anglers off buying them. They soon put it right and went back to even-sized numbers. Probably same hooks. 🤣 Drennan have recently done similar with elastics. Instead of using a power strength number, 6, 8, 10s elastic, they went for a diameter 1.2mm, 1.4mm, etc. They said that anglers would soon get used to it. NO THEY WON'T. I bought a pack and there was a little sticker on it stating "Equal to 9-11 elastic". They will go back, believe me. Lesson is - don't try to be too different.
This spell of odd-numbered hooks lasted a few years and eventually the Mustad 90340 reverted to its former even-numbered sizes. Going backl a very long time, long before either of us ever fished many hook ranges were available in both odd and even numbered sizes judging by old fishing books.
Superb channel Mark. Thnx fella. Much appreciated.
Fascinating, another masterclass from Mark

Food for thought, I do worry about getting the bigger ones in though
It has its limitations!
Check out the sphere range classic hooks they come up more traditional but the size is weird 18 looks like an old school 20 or 22
I have the original microlite i may try this method on a local drain
Good job it was a bream and not a tench you would probably be still playing it
