The artist who draws the Matt-inspired figures in the thumbnails had sure fun with this one, seeing how well-detailed it is, lol.
They certainly pay close attention to the um... _curves._
Yeah the McMuscles Thumbnail Babes sure are something =D.....
Don't worry. Curvy McMuscles can't hurt you. ❤
The over exaggerated pose really reminded me of the Spider-Woman comic cover. Which was drawn by a porn artist.
@@Mankey619 that's Tuesday for æon, specially if you watch og animation by Peter Chung
"Was Aeon a fashion model in the show?"
That would require the show to have continuity, something it was famous for NOT having.
It did and it didn’t. The episodes that aired in 1991 as part of MTV’s Liquid Television told one serialized story, it was even produced as one 12min short film before being broken up into two-minute chunks. Then the following year Liquid Television featured five self-contained episodes that had recurring themes and characters but no continuity (case in point, Aeon dies in all five episodes). Then in 1995 it was spun off into its own 30min show, which like the 1991 shorts told one serialized story across its 10 episodes. The movie borrows most of its ideas from the 1995 episodes but isn’t directly based on them, and this game confuses things even more by combining the movie’s plot with elements lifted from the show and some original ideas.
It not having continuity is part of the shows appeal. It's unique. Different. Daring. Bold. Kick ass
Every episode there was no tie-in. If it wasn’t for the aesthetics, this would be such a horrible show. I liked it though, it made it funny at parts
if the show had continuity she'd be dead
PS2 era was such a sweet spot. That polygon look made you use just the right amount of imagination.
Fun Fact: The Collective was working on an Aeon Flux game circa 1999. By the time I joined in 2000, they were not. 🤣
I'll help you make it!
It's funny not only seeing Charlize Theron reprising her role here, but Texas based voice actors (ie Funimation) like Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, and Chuck Huber in the cast.
Makes sense when the former two are in Bloodrayne with Bailey as Rayne specifically.
This game gives me big bloodrayne 2 vibes
@@rodsgaming this game actually uses the same engine Bloodrayne does.
@@patrickrobinsob1464 I might have to check this out I really liked those when I played them
Idk about Deathgame, but as someone who genuinely thought Ru Paul's Drag Race involved Go Karts before a friend started watching it; I think Haute Couture Takeshi's Castle is something the world needs.
Just wanna pointlessly put out here
Aeon Flux’s “eye” poster is incredibly simple and awesome.
Definitely. Anytime I see an eye up close, I always think of it catching a fly like a venus fly trap
I worked on the Sony Europe submission for this - this was one of those 'can I finish a full compliance pass and a playthrough in 32 hours kind of jobs where I did two 16 hour shifts' It is a pretty good game
Nice
I still have my free movie ticket that came with the game. Says it expires December 31, 2005 but we'll just see about that.
If you redeem it in any movie theatre today they're forced to screen the film on one of their screens. Their loss, your gain
A fashion death game should be called “designer death”
Death's Design, with your host Tony Todd
@@chriswest6988 with cohost andrew WK?
"Death by Design"
"Is there a way to combine fashion and fighting? What would you call it?"
It's not so much fighting via CQC as it is shooting, but it's called Fashion Police Squad. It's a "boomer shooter" where you - as you might expect - punish people committing crimes against fashion.
I am wearing an Aeon Flux t shirt from a bootlegger literally right now. The algorithim is crazy
Honestly, I'd like to see more of this game. This looks sick.
Im a big fan of Peter Chungs art. He also animated the Alexander the Great anime series although it's not his writing.
The movie and game were actually made with zero involvement from Peter Chung (not counting the clips from the animated series). In fact, when asked what he thought of the movie Chung said “Ms. Flux does not appear in this film” and “I was unhappy when I read the script four years ago; seeing it projected larger than life in a crowded theatre made me feel helpless, humiliated, and sad.”
Wasn't he the lead art designer in Phantom 2040 as well?
@@lipstickzombie4981 yeah I forgot about that. I have that on vhs! 😂
Yeah, Reign the Conqueror! I still gotta watch that.
Aeon Flux vs Ghost in the Shell VS. The movies : wha happened
I think it was neat, how both experimented with different ideas. Bringing a memorable cast, soundtrack, and visual style
The Aeon Flux episode "War" is one of the best things I experienced in my Childhood.
Liquid Television was great, I really liked the Maxx too
The LTV shorts were so rad, the show and the movie, not so much.
Same here brother. I just found the liquid tv vol 1 and 2 best of dvd. Great memories at my abuelita's crib as a kid
I remember the animated series, and film. But the game, it literally was never in stores back then. Make that, a lot of retailers never knew it existed
But sweet to know its real. Just super limited run literally
Terminal. Miss that team 😔
Aeon + Hamster Ball = something magical
Seriously this game had so many ideas
Ah! This one was actually pretty fun to QA! Def one of my less shameful credits: )
Terminal Reality also developed the 2009 Ghostbusters game. The physics in that game are crazy.
'If you think the Ivy thumbnail is something, you'll be picking up your eyeballs on this one!'
You can never get enough of the McMuscle Thumbnail Babes =D....
man... this reminds me of GiTS PS2 and Messiah (one of the top 410 billion games ever made). i must play it!
Dat thumbnail art tho
God damm.
Must be working overtime 'cause that butt don't quit
I remember watching the original show. At first I didn't realize each episode was taking the basic premise and telling its own, self-contained story. I almost broke my brain trying to put all the episodes together in one cohesive continuity!🤯
I had this at one point, from what I remember its kinda a strange amalgamation of the Anime and Movie universes
aeon flux have design from the live action movie, but good child and his soldiers/brothers are from the animation looks cool!
Aeon Flux is an American show, not anime.
I was just thinking about Advent Rising and Majesco.
That was a dark time
It still haunts me
I liked the anime. Particularly the animation. The director of the anime has done a number of great animes, imo. He made at least 1 of the vignettes in the Animatrix (remember that?!) the one about the track star iirc. He also made Reign: the conqueror which was loosely based on Alexander the Great. A lot of people get turned off by his art style but i liked it, and his story telling is really good once you adjust to the style.
Aeon Flux doing the Yamcha when she dies from fall damage tho
I remember having played this game on my OG Xbox & it was surprisingly rather good, gameplay-wise.
Æon Matt in the thumbnail got me actin' unwise.
Dunno why but this game reminds me of an old Web Tangent game called "Betty Bad" i think mainly because the futuristic style it has and that glowing orb she has in the back (Betty Badowski, yeah that's her name, has like some sort of glowing thing in the back that showcases you how much of health she has)
Also Betty Bad was some sort of mix of Tempest with Space Invaders were you went through matrix like tunnels with a Y2K style (think of Spy Kids 3D Game Over inspired armor) was one of the highlights of Web Tangent's online gaming service small life span, but you can easly play it in modern windows nowdays just you have to jump some hoops and loops to get it working but nothing too outrageous.
Im low key kinda mad with myself from sleeping on this game when the live action movie was still new back then, because like you said Matt all movie tie in games are kinda drab, boring, tedious and nothing to do with either the source material or the movie itself (unless you are Spiderman or X-Men) because i love Bloodrayne and other Terminal Reality games (things like Nocturne where Bloodrayne came out since Rayne is a character from the Nocturne universe) and i always thought Terminal Reality was legit a very underrated company that deserved more attention from people, legit Nocturne and Bloodrayne 2 are my favorite Terminal Reality games and this might be another of those since it kinda looks quite fun to play.
How about P.N.03 for more stylish ladies blowing up robots.
That game was a treat. Loved the soundtrack, and so many outfits to unlock+ utilize her abilities. But dang that level design was clunky, if it had a map display, would have been a better experience.
I would adore seeing you do more of this game it got me hooked
Wait is this by the Advent Rising people?
I believe it was, in fact yes.
But a difficult game to find
she was like a spy in the series. in tbe shorts it was just her dying every episode
No way! I love the series (but its criminally short). This is BIG suprise.
This video just unlocked memories! To be honest, I only played this game for the outfits. Everything else… not so much 😂
Is Matt trying to convince me to get into Skull Girls?
There was a surge of female led movies like this around 2002 to 2007 we were getting a couple every year. I feel like Trinity and the other strong female leads from the Matrix kinda sparked it
Aside from the grass turning into spikes being one of the only things I remember about it, i never sat though a movie that made me bored before. I really wanna try this game tho
Dude!! I had not idea you were a fellow canuck until I heard you reference TeleToon. That's freakin' sweet.
That thumbnail...
Matt, no! Dis a holy day!!! 😂
I would love to see more of this, or you could play the Ratatouille video game. The tutorial/opening section of the game is hilarious.
Fashion + Death game = Runway Beatdown
Essentially, a Beat 'em up game that plays like Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks themed around Fashion and something like Smash TV. Pulling off stylish attacks, combos, environmental finishers, and other kinds of moves in order to gain popularity amongst an entire audience like in Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door.
10:35 Big Bloodrayne 2 vibes, I want to play this now 🔥😂
Ahhhhh, Matt with the Tanara reference!
16:30 It wouldn't be Matt's video without a Limp Bizkit reference
Outstanding content, insta-sub. Truly comedic
The thumbnail makes me feel some things.
dude I just remembered this game existed last week this is awesome
There's only one runner for this game on Speedrun's leaderboards. A shame.
Edit: Actually, Matt, you'd just have to beat 27 minutes to get yourself atop the leaderboard.
27 minutes? Is it one of those “fastest time to break the game” speedruns? Like, I know movie tie-in games are usually pretty short, but 27 minutes seems a bit ridiculous even for a speedrun.
@@MrBeardsley Oh, 27 minutes for the first mission/level. I forgot to finish my thought. It's broken down by level, I guess. I don't know. It's a single guy from Finland who has done runs so far.
That Tiff cameo caught me by surprise.
THAT WALK ANIMATION
"Fashion show plus death game is a really good idea" - Hitman hears you.
I am sorry I missed out on playing this game. The mechanics looks pretty solid.
A name for a game that turns fashion into a death sport? "Modituri te salutant".
Oh man, I remember watching the movie in the cinema with a few buddies.
I'm down for seeing more of this game
Genuinely surprised you didn't go with Fash TV for the fashion/death game spinoff 😛
Would love to see more of this, genuinely shocked by how good and fun this looks for being a ps2 era movie tie-in game
I was going to quibble about the possible alternate meaning of that name, but on the other hand it kinda fits as a winking nod to the meta-audience given what kind of society would unironically air death games.
Where was "Leave me alone, i'm busy" from? So familiar
15:28 Love the Mega64 reference!
Matt as:
-Ivy Valentine-
-Sailor Moon-
-Aeon Flux-
-Tyris Flare-
-Samus Aran-
Psylocke
Rayne
Ada Wong
Lulu
Tifa Lockhart
Mileena or Sindel (preferrably Sindel)
Rachel (Ninja Gaiden)
Christie (DOA)
Nina Williams
Blaze Fielding
Mai Shiranui
Morrigan Aensland
Jenny the Bat
Black Widow
Tiffany Lords
Bayonetta
Cammy White
Orchid (Killer Instinct)
Some random broad from Rumble Roses or Senran Kagura
Gruntilda in the bad ending of BK
And the list goes on for the thumbnail artist.
22:52 - Imagine a Zoolander game like that.
A fashion death game title? "Clothesline From Hell" (BAH GAWD)
had i played this when it was around i'd have probably loved it lol. cool fighting and enough energy to keep going for a while and get ya sucked into the game strait from the beginning.
‘Zis is all timing you know, jump ven you hit ze barrieal and you vill fly’ lol
How have I never seen this game before? ~{Man I really LOVE this era of gaming. It was the perfect blend of including what is important, providing options, art style, games made for pure fun, some environmental effects, physics like effects, to the point gameplay. Not embarrassed to embrace Absurdity whenever needed. It unintentionally made it cool, I just love the vibes. I miss this era and I wish we could bring back the best aspects of this era and incorporate it into our modern world with our advancements that we are currently not utilizing ANYWHERE Near it's creative potential. It's funny how the more some have "focused on realism and graphics" the more we have digressed in gaming as a whole. This era UNDERSTOOD what things should focus on. It embraced the best aspects in the Game department. Not waisted tons of stuff on unnecessary things but put effort into the things that do matter because they didn't have enough tech space to waste any processing power on anything other than what was necessary.} Ya know what I mean?
Do you remember Alexander Senki aka Reign: The Conqueror? Whatever happened to that madness?
“Dressed to Kill” which is what Kill La Kill is actually called, sorta
I need a part 2!😊
T.H.U.G. stands for Tony Hawk Underground.
Yer gettin a sub cause you mentioned Iggy's wreckin balls and I loved that game. Feels like you're the first person i've heard mention it since childhood lol.
Appreciated.
This game has no business looking so slick, especially for the PS2.
EDIT: "Is she a fashion model by day and a secret agent by night?" No... But I can definitely see her do that if it meant fucking up Trevor's plans somehow.
So she's Lady X in Model by Day. I think it's Famke Janssen's first superheroine role.
Fashion Flux or Luxurious Style.
(Get it? Because Final Fantasy and Last Story and oh nevermind...)
Terminal Reality's fate being killed by the Walking Dead game will forever hurt
I did watch the movie thinking it was one of the rest of random "we just have a comic that became a movie" but never seen it in my life before and about the movie... All I remember is that I watch it and nothing else.
Fighting fashion show name, Killer Looks.
I remember not liking the movie but there is one thing I remember is the motor bike scene. I don’t know why I associated Mila Jolavitch(probably spelt wrong) but given when this came out it would make sense
More like Matt McTHICC in that thumbnail, daaaaamn.
Name for a fashion bloodsport game? Power Drip
I'd call it
Beauty is pain
I'm surprised there were not more ball jokes in this playthrough. Half the thing was about Aeon Flux handling balls and not one joke about it? Matt...are you becoming a gentleman?
They sound like the “Wow, you can really dance,” guy.
You need to finish this!!! Please don't make me play it myself.
If someone didnt already say this, "Couture Combat".
7:22 PENGUIN!
I didn't know there wasn't a classic version. She should have wore that outfit at some point in the movie
i remember this being one of those 20 dollar budget games like N.A.R.C and a few other ps2 games
Play more of this please!
This released on PS2 as well... looks like I definitely need to replace my 7000 Slim laser.
If this would have been made for the PS4 or 5 it would be one hell of a game from the animated series influence. I want to trap flies in my eyelashes like a Venus flytrap!
Deadly beautiful 🎉
Damn, that's one forgotten game, like Danger Girl or Heavy Metal.
I still have the animated series in DVD, 10 times better than the movie.
Clearly a fashion fight game should be called Looks That Kill or Slay Queens or ooh Runway Fighters!
I thought he was about to say the game was made by TerminalMontage, and now I want a Something About Aeon Flux.
Fashion? Fighting? Fighting fashion _crimes_? Fashion Police Squad! Got exposed to it watching GDQ, love the concept.
More of this, but as Pumpkinhead in Pumpkinhead 2 Blood Wings!
This game got the Free Radical font going on
Anime? Movie? Charlize Theron? I swear you're making this up Matt. Like your unending desire for early 00s jank just causes it to manifest.
Loved this game!!
