This version of Dan Vasc's is the first time I realized that when sung completely through depict the new Believer's Journey from conversion through learning to rest in the Lord to actualizing the awe and power that transforms a Believer into a Knower and a true faith warrior of the kingdom. OMG what an eye opener to how this hymn should be sung, the power and certainty should be our mind set. Great reaction, make you want to stand up and do something. If this didn't light you on fire, your matches are wet.

Agreed! The first verse is like a repentant sinner, sung softly and lowly and acapella, coming humbly to the Lord. Repeating it again at the end of the song in a stronger voice (shouting at times) and decable and crescendo of instrumental accompaniment is like sharing his testimony with others.

I agree with you about most metal, but Dan is different. Maybe I can even further enrich your enjoyment of this rendition, if you haven't already heard this from other people.
I don't remember how I stumbled across Dan Vasc, but his Witcher soundtrack covers end with comments from him that are just so exuberant, about making "power" music so you can "have an epic day." You can't watch many of his videos without realizing that belting out growls at the top of his range is how he expresses joy. Where did he bring that in? Not until the most gloriously joyous verse! And even then, he was more restrained than usual, without his customary fist pumps and marching in place.
Also, the harmonica is a gift his father gave him when he was seven. His father passed away of cancer in 2017, so I definitely believe there was a bit of remembering there.
Most artists who cover this song strike me as falling into one of 3 categories: 1) jumping on the bandwagon to get their names on one of the most popular songs of all time, but without putting much thought into it, 2) jumping on the bandwagon, but putting what they think they *ought* to feel about it, or what they think the audience feels about it in, 3) jumping on the bandwagon and wanting to prove that their technique can put a unique stamp on reinterpreting one of the most popular songs of all time. About half of the reactors I've come across expected Dan to be in the 3rd category and drop dramatically into the growls and screaming guitars and pounding drums right from the second verse. Which would have made no sense at all to the sentiment of the verse, but it was an understandable expectation. The better you know Dan's work, the better you realize: this was someone portraying his own unique relationship to this song and kindly sharing with the world what the lyrics have meant to him, personally. I love it more every time I hear it!

I had read about the harmanica being a gift he got from his father as a child, and I have watched both of his Elvis covers, "An American Trilogy" which he had recorded shortly after his dad who was a huge fan of Elvis had passed away, Dan is crying and singing at the same time, vey touching rendition full of true emotion, and "Love Me Tender" which he recorded for that elderly couple Julie and Robert, he's telling their touching story before he starts to sing... Dan is obviously a very emotional and kind person and puts all of his heart and soul in every performance, he's not doing anything to show off, but for the love of music and humanity, great guy and OMG he can sing! I'm already a fan and will definitely watch more of his covers... - You have an amazing day and enjoy it, I like your name Gould, reminds me of the great pianist Glenn Gould whom I adore! I'm sure with your name you would have stumbled across him at some point, if not and you like classical piano music being played at the highest possible level with a lot of feeling I recommend giving him a listen!
