Thank you for your great tutorial, I have an overgrown one and I’m going to use your method. I live in Florida and I just leave mine outside in indirect sun light and it’s been thriving for years, I have blooms this year and it seems like it’s every 4 years or it’s root bound.. they’re definitely a finicky plant.
I am very new to Hoya life 😊💓😊. Thank you for making it step by step process and what it look like after each stage. Very nice video and keep up the good work. God Bless
Hi, we are sorry to hear this. What medium are you planting the cuttings in, and how is the moisture level in the medium as well as the area you are sitting it in?
When you eventually repot the rooted cutting, do you add several vines together in one pot, or does one vine become a full plant? Thanks for the helpful video.
One of my top five favorite plants. It’s fairly new to me tho and I need to know if a leaf falls off , will it regrow in that spot or should I just chop and prop that section?
Please help. I’ve had my Hulu rope plant for 20 yrs. It has never bloomed but what bothers me the most if that I have 3 ends that won’t grow. How to I get it to grow
Hi need to know a little more before we can try to help, what’s it’s environment like? How often do you fertilize? What do you fertilize with? Have you changed the soil/pot at all? What type of pot is it in? Lighting? Moisture/humidity levels?
I’m surprised by the amount of people who say they’re slow growers. I only grows Hoyas and mine grow very fast. Example my New Guinea ghost put out 6 new leaves and a new shoot in less than a month after potting it from propagating. I also live in Canada and do not use grow lights. Where abouts are you?
Great video -- just what I was looking for, thanks. Questions: Will the cut end of the mother plant branch when it grows? I have a plant with a single, very (very) long stem. Can I take multiple cuttings from it?
Hi Melanie, we honestly just use orchid fertilizer spray for our Hoyas, as soon as I started using it they all started putting out flowers. Thanks for watching!!! 🌴🌱🌿🪴☀️
I've had mine in water for almost 2 months and there's still no roots. I change the water every week, it's under a grow light, the temperature stays between 68-72, I even added some rooting hormone. Is it because it's winter? Should I just be patient? The plant was pretty old iirc, but very healthy. I think it's around a decade old, but there was still new growth happening as far as I could tell. Does age have anything to do with it?
From what we’ve experienced, the best growth happens from green stem, so trust your instincts. If you think giving it a little more time before propagation will give you better success than you are probably correct. It’s hard to know for sure without seeing the plant. Thank you for watching and keep us posted! 🪴🌴🌱🌿😊
I have had mine for at least 4 months and it isn't doing the best so I checked the roots. They're super thin and fragile looking. Can I just place them in water to get more roots to grow or strengthen existing roots? Any insight is much appreciated. 💚✌🏼
My Hoyas are huuuuge. Like 6ft long even with the curls and really wide... But they don't bloom anymore. So weird. They used to bloom all over. It's been over 3 years. They still grow like weeds and have been happy but any tips on getting them to bloom? I'm going to take some cuttings and try this. Is it better to do with fresh growth or can I use old growth?
Hi Baitball, great question! Ours all started blooming when I started spraying them with the orchid fertilizer. Lots of humidity and heat help too! Thanks so much for watching 😊 🌿🌴🌸🪴🌱 Nelly
We just pot it up. Keep the soil slightly damp for a few weeks so the roots don’t go into shock. As for light, it can stay under the same conditions as your rooting process. In a few weeks you can increase the light :) thx for watching :)
That was a great video! I just got my first Hoya compacta. One rope is 13” long and the other is 5” long. I think they may be pretty young. Should I wait for them to be a bit older before propagating? I’d like to be able to fill the pot in a bit. Also the soil it came in looks like mostly bark and/or leca. Is that ok? Right now, it is in an eastern NS window. Is that enough light?
Hey congrats!! 😊😊 I would at least give it some time to acclimate to its new environment, once it’s settled in go ahead and prop 😊 and yes, that soil sounds good, we normally keep ours in a mixture of orchard bark, hip soil and earthworm compost. They like to dry out a bit between waterings. As for light, as long as it’s getting about 4-6 hours of bright light each day it should be happy. Remember any Hoya would typically grow in an area where they have dappled light and a host plant to climb. 😊😊 happy growing and thanks for watching!
@@rustynellysjungle3166 Thank you! Most of the contents had fallen out of the pot when I received it in the mail and I was so nervous, I didn’t even check the roots. I bottom watered it right away, but it seems the bark was dry a day later. Maybe I should have let it sit in water longer!? I’m so new to all of this, but loving it!

Thx jaquelyn!!! And ya, his shirts are out there lol
Thank you so much! Today a hair salon gave me a huge cutting, it's almost all pink so I hope it takes!
Thank you for sharing. I would never have had any idea how the new growth looks. 🥰

Very thorough. Thanks!
This was so informative. Thanks for sharing!
Hey minebe! Thanks for the feedback! And thanks for watching !
You make it look so easy but I followed your directions to the “T” and both of my cutting have shriveled up and seem to continue to die.

Patricia, Thank you for watching and subscribing 😊😊
When you eventually repot the rooted cutting, do you add several vines together in one pot, or does one vine become a full plant? Thanks for the helpful video.
This would be entirely up to you. We do like a thicker plant, so 3-6 cutting would make a substantial plant! Thx for watching :)
Thank you💓

I should be getting my first Hindu rope in about a week! I am so excited. Do both the green and the variegated get the same colored new growth?
Our green ones have green new broth, our variegated get red... might depend on lightning :) thx for watching :)
You ever put fertilizer in with your props? How do you keep your croton inside?
Great video -- just what I was looking for, thanks.

Yes you can!!
@@rustynellysjungle3166 Thanks! Just cut it!
Hey, have minimum 2 leaves and minimum 1 removed leaf under water
Have you propagated them in moss?
What do you recommend as a fertilizer for this plant please
Hi Melanie, we honestly just use orchid fertilizer spray for our Hoyas, as soon as I started using it they all started putting out flowers. Thanks for watching!!! 🌴🌱🌿🪴☀️
How do you water your Hoya Compacta when they are established?
Hey, a good watering, then let the soil dry, and when almost totally dry, then water again. Thx for watching

Hey, ah, you have a stubborn one. Sometime in winter months the froth is non existent. As long as you don’t see rot, ur good . Good luck!!
What about when they have the long woody branches at the end? Should I wait until next year to propogate?
From what we’ve experienced, the best growth happens from green stem, so trust your instincts. That is the step we would try in order to promote more root growth, keep us posted on how it’s doing! 😊
Do you use distilled water or regular tap water?😊
Regular tap water. We are on a well . Thx for watching :)

@@rustynellysjungle3166 you spray the fertilizer on the leaves?
Absolutely, just the same way I do the orchids 😊
I want to transfer my Hindu rope from water to soil
Should I put it in a humidity bag when I do or just leave it in a bright indirect spot ?
We just pot it up. Keep the soil slightly damp for a few weeks so the roots don’t go into shock. As for light, it can stay under the same conditions as your rooting process. In a few weeks you can increase the light :) thx for watching :)
Can you put more then 1 rope in the same pot? What size pot to start out with, would you recommend for maybe 2, 6 inch ropes?
Hey! Yes, you can :) and as for length, we have done from 2” to 10”. All worked. :) thx for watching :)

What happens to the place you have cut off the end. Will it still grow.
Yes… it takes time, but can start to grow new shoots :) thx for watching :)
You didn't say herb jars.
Do we have to change the water in between
We change water every week or 2. Thx for watching :)
What soil was it?
Hey Eyleen, you can use any quick draining potting soil. :)
Can I propogate them directly in the soil and skip the water step?
Hey Roohi Kalia, yes, direct soil method works, it’s just slower, and you can’t see the roots . Thx for watching :)
@@rustynellysjungle3166 thank you so much for the information. Will go for the water method then :)

Will the stem from the mother plant split?
Hey, it can! Thx for watching :)

Hey Irene, Rusty here. I'm so happy you enjoyed our video. Thx so much for watching :)
WHY Would you take a small plant like that and cut part of it off. I would take it from a larger plant.???? What a waste
We have so many of them is doesn’t matter. Our large ones we leave alone. Love em :)
Are you able to propagate with the leaves?
Hey, No, You cant propagate with leaves. You need some of the Stem. Thx for watching.
