Thanks for this, my band is covering this tune. When it first got thrown into the mix this solo sent shivers down my spine. Thanks for slowing it down to a learnable speed. Much appreciated.
Thanks Russell! I always find looking at individual bars in detail and then slowly adding bars/ sections together works really well for getting new/ trickier stuff together quickly. Good luck with it!
Cool solo.. It seems like it's rushed though. I watched the Imelda May video and Darrel Highams' solo is the same but extends two more bars. (I think it's bars..I failed music theory)
+ExplosiveGuitar Hi there! Well it's really a solo of two halves... Over the first progression it's really worth outlining the chords individually (A7, C7, F7, D7). He does this really well using chord tones/ arpeggio ideas. There isn't really a single scale that would work over all those chords without needing to make some frequent changes. The second half of the solo is all 'A' blues scale/ minor pentatonic - with the bluesy vibe you can throw in the maj 3rd (C#) as well and it'll give you a similar feel if you're not copying Darrel's solo. Hope that helps! Good luck!
Man I so wanted to learn this but your camera angle means I can’t see what you’re doing! You’ve obviously got this nailed, but……….couldn’t you have waited until you got a battery? 😕
Well... it's a great job, it's an amazing lesson... thanks a lot. BUT! Why for christ's sake it's always this no-good imelda may's version everywhere?! Why not to do a canonical and brilliant version by Dave Phillips with Mark Harman on guitar?!
