This is a Korean movie. Apparently the original concept was “don’t change yourself for others.” I think the English translation didn’t capture the nuances of the other language.
Damn it, I love that message so much ❤️ Well, also because Western media prefers questions in advertising material. "What if... Dinosaurs still roamed the earth." Or something like that

She has more muscle in her OG form, the enchanted one is only for outward appearence. Oddly enough both enchantments impair the fighting abilities of the main leads.
@@Raximus3000 I notice that too. I was surprise how agile Merlin was and how his curse really limit his fighting ability. And I was really glad that Snow White was so strong in her OG form. I am on the heavier side myself and I can out dead lift my all friends. Happy to see an animated female character with that trait combo.
@@shinethief3785 ikr! it's super rare for a female character to have that type of trait. which, if you think deeper of it, it's kinda sad that a trait like that is rare in movies like so.
Yeah I thought even if it was a positive message it would have her hate herself in the beginning and have to learn to love herself. Having her love herself from the start is such a (sadly) surprising and good thing for little kids to see!
Just watched the movie and: 1. Snow White is an ABSOLUTE _QUEEN_ 2. I love Merlin, his arc is beautifully done 3. Arthur is a delight, love his frienship with Merlin 4. Definitely in my top 10- no, top _5_ favorite romance 5. I want to shake the hand of whoever wrote the dialogue cause God 6. The above applies to the voice actors as well
I want to give it to one of my cousins who is becoming a teen soon, I think it'll be a message she'll need on her journey..! Especially since she was fat shamed in kindergarten, despite it being baby fat...
I felt this movie fell into the same realm as “Leap!” Or “Ballerina”. Like I remember seeing the trailers a few years back and thinking “oh yeah, looks pretty good, when does this come out?” And then straight up, NOT HEARING ANYTHING FOR YEARS! Then it just pops up suddenly.
I remember looking forward to Leap! so much. I even remember being so excited when the movie was in my local movie theater. Thankfully, my family and I never got around to watching it in theaters. And I say thankfully because when I watched it on Netflix I was disappointed. It would've been so much more disappointing if I had spent money on tickets.
I went to see leap/ballerina as soon as it came out, but I get that pain but with that movie that follows prince charming on an adventure with a female knight
I predict the American version will have potty humour, pop cultural references, the latest pop songs, and add a dance party 'cause studios here don't know how to end their movies so they rip off Shrek.
Since Gyro from the 2017 ducktales reboot is (and will ALWAYS BE) one of my absolute favorite characters, the prince would probably unironically be a comfort character for me. All of my comfort characters fall into three categories: nervous guy, psychopath/complete asshole, and voiced by Ben Schwartz.

This is exactly what happened with Jennifer's Body, bad marketing can absolutely cripple a movie. Attracts the wrong audience and can't reach the people that they want to reach with the movie.
Is "Jennifer's Body" actually good? I never saw it because I thought by the trailers it was another stupid sleazy flick disguising itself as horror. But then I felt the same about the "Black Swan" trailer, but it ended up actually being interesting
@@MrAnthonyIII It's not about sex really at all. The main character isn't even Jennifer. The people who marketed it just wanted to attract hordes of horny teenagers with their marketing since there are scenes with Jennifer being sexual. It's not about Jennifer being sleazy at all, it's about Needy (the actual main character) who is in love with Jennifer. Trust me, the trailer does not do the movie justice at all. But yea, I can see why you thought it was just a borderline porno masquerading as a horror movie. I thought that too until I actually watched it lmao. I recommend it tho.
Yeah I’ve been meaning to watch Jennifer’s body recently because I never watched it over the bad reviews and wasn’t into the trailer but I heard it was Meant to be a movie by women for women that got over sexualized and advertised for men which caused all the bad reviews cus they expected some raunchy film or something idk haven’t seen it yet lmao
Becca F I feel like they kinda know that lol. They probably thought that the first movie was cringe but made a lot of money, why not make another one? We’re all gonna watch it anyways lmao 😂
Kissing booth2 sucked so bad, the acting was also bad. Overall a terrible movie, only thing that would make it a little better was if she would have ended up with Marco.
whoever wrote the dialogue is A GOD. The characters felt human. In the sense that I didn't feel like I was watching a movie where the dialogue felt robotic. I loved the humor as well!!!
the reason her magic body looks like a Kpop star is that the korean beauty standard is very uniform, she's meant to look like the most traditionally beautiful korean girl
@@halfdemonprince It's not Eurocentric really? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying beauty standards are a good thing, but a lot of Asian groups are shorter, and many Korean people do have paler skin. Again, not defending the stance of "look this way or you're not pretty" But some of the things you mentioned aren't beauty standards, they're just common traits of the ethnicity.
@Apollo Sebaztian You were admittedly quite intense, but I do get where you're coming from. I'm half Asian (Japanese specifically.) And it can be sort of frustrating to hear that I'm not a "real" Asian person because of my eyes or skin tone from people who have no idea that a lot of us do have paler skin and wider eyes.
Marketing really ruined this movie, this movie has so much potential and a good message with the body image and self love with Snow White... but omg the marketing....
I feel really bad too because it's not a studio as established at Disney or anything like that. This movie could have really put them on the map if it had been a success and frankly in the times they planned to release it, it definitely would have. Body Positivity is more common and mainstreamed right now even if it's not really there but at the time it would have had such a bigger impact. It just really sucks. I don't understand how this marketing was greenlighted.
It completely surprised me that the movie is actually South-Korean, since the body standards there are insane! I remember Miss Korea 2018 being "controversial" because she was 173 cm (5 ft 8) and 59 kg (130 lbs), which was deemed too heavy. I can't imagine how many kids this could've helped :(
@@frekf yeah, as a K-pop Stan (pls don't come at me xD) it's so painful seeing how thin these young people (mostly female) are... they are called ugly if they are 50kg and when they are bone thin, they are called ugly again. I just really hope Korea can lower or just get rid of these unrealistic standards 😔 Edit: spelling
For this being a Korean movie, it's absolutely beautiful. It's cause Korean standards are very high, they fat shame like hell has no tomorrow, so to see them embracing and doing this sort of self-love appreciation, and acceptance is very beautiful to me. I am slightly overweight and I might not do things that other people enjoy, I know how people feel about me but I'm completely comfortable with who I am. I'm learning how to accept myself and better myself and loving yourself is one of the hardest things to do sometimes. This is an amazing movie because of its story, animation, and message. The promotions did this movie a great injustice. Edit: I hope whoever sees this is having a great day and if not, don't worry, It'll get better. Oh yeah I also fixed spelling
Yeah. Over the years, I've honestly become more jaded about Asian countries' cultures, namely how they seem to discourage individuality. This message of accepting yourself is very healthy, and I hope it helps some of the younger generations come to realize they can't keep living like everyone else because it's unhealthy. Also, rock on for being okay with how you are ^_^ (Not saying Western culture is better, of course. We could do with a tiny bit less individuality, at least to the point where we aren't encouraging selfishness and pointless competition.)
I think Korean beauty standards are at the very top of the list for beauty standards. I mean lets be real, they evolved to the point that their sweat doesn't even smell. We are like neanderthals compared to their beauty and intellect.
@@anubispatron The fact that bleaching products are such big business, eye lid surgery is still the number 1 cosmetic procedure in South Korea proves that for koreans european beauty standards are the ideal. The prevalence of school bullying and the fascination with body horror coupled with this adherence to strict beauty standards point to lower intellect.
@@anubispatron they may look perfect on the outside but all those standards, plastic surgery and “perfection” really hurts people on the inside, just look at what the Kpop industry puts its idols through, I’d rather we all be Neanderthals then be subjugated to that
Schotter I believe there is a record where one of the guys who worked on shrek did want it to come across as fuckwad. Reason is that the character was designed after someone who worked at disney who was a real farquad.
Another thing I liked about the movie is that they don’t treat Snow as clumsy or gross like other media, or like what the original ad led people to believe. She keeps that gentle, graceful vibe in both of her forms. It’s hard to describe but there’s something really sweet about that. She has that Disney princess aesthetic going on.
As a Korean, I’d like to point out that there are some HIGH beauty standards in Korea. The fat-shaming poster may have been relatively okay back then. Obviously, the high beauty standards have fallen enough for people to understand why that poster was kinda messed up. I’m just saying, don’t get TOO mad at messages or beliefs of different cultures without some heavy context and cultural knowledge.
Well It was Tess holiday that shared it so take it with a grain of salt. This is the morbidly obese woman that said she's anorexic. She's always looking for a way to be a victim I cannot stand her at all she's so freaking annoying comparing black people to fat people like that's no where near the same thing.
Just Bc it’s a “cultural belief” doesn’t suddenly just make it okay. Yea things are different there but those “cultural beliefs” are what lead so many people to starving themselves, and believing a healthy average body is “still too big”. People die from things like that, and a lot more than you would think. We don’t “lack cultural knowledge” we just don’t lack basic morals and common sense. Edit: I’m not insulting the culture and Koreans just to make that clear, I was just pointing out that blaming something that’s simply morally wrong on culture doesn’t make it okay
@@tubmop66 serious question do you stand by that with other things that's considered morally wrong in other cultures? Like if a culture eats people for some reason or cuts the clitoris off of baby girls so they will never feel pleasure.
Yeah but this is like, if there was a new book that came out and the cover showed something racist, sexist, anti-LGBTQ+, etc. I wouldn't read it because it would be offensive. It's not just like the book looks boring or long, which is what the quote refers to, you know?
I have a friend who thought this was a body shaming movie and when I corrected them that its not, they still didn't want to watch it. Its sad how poor marketing can affect a movie.
And that's just it. The movie might have a great message, but the original marketing was absolutely fat shaming, and for a lot of folks it's hard to wash that taste out of our mouths when it's so commonplace.
For the record, it was “dwarfs” until Tolkien (a linguist) decided he preferred “dwarves.” Most later fantasy authors followed suit, but by that time, Disney had already called its movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Now both are acceptable, although “dwarfs” has more of a fairy tale feel while “dwarves” has more of a fantasy feel, IMO.
@@funkyneon3148 and @snowdragon06 , actually, a whole team created the poster, and a whole team approved it. There's nothing done by a singular person in the movie industry, marketing, sales, etc.
Can we tall about how much harder this message hits coming from Korean Culture? You know, where they put such a high standard on beauty that those considered less beautiful have to face intense discrimination?
This is what i thought about as soon as he said it came from south korea. Ive seen a clip of the movie before and saw someone explain what its about, so i already had that knowledge coming into it.
I’m Korean, it might’ve been bad translating bc if u directly translate the words into Korean it would’ve been like “what if people didn’t see Snow White so beautiful anymore”
i’m glad they didn’t go the “girl thinks she’s fat and ugly and learns to love herself to get the hot dude” route and instead had the hot dude have to be the one who learns to change
Yeah, it’s interesting how stories will usually have Conventionally hot girl but with a quirky personality. She learns to love herself and ends up with the guy or whatever, but she is hot so it kind of lessens the impact. Bottom line, she’s hot. Conventionally hot girl who teaches the not hot guy that inner beauty is what matters. Again, it’s ironic because she has outer beauty. Kills the purpose. Conventionally hot girl who wants to be loved and respected for who she is. An important lesson, but she’s hot. These are all good things to learn, and conventionally attractive women DO need to be respected for who they are and deserve true love and not just superficial attraction. HOWEVER, the bottom line is that the woman is always physically attractive. It’s like people are afraid to empower women who don’t fit those beauty standards. It’s refreshing to see a female character who already loves herself and teaches the male character to love himself too.
Yeah, I was predicting that. I mean if VA complained about the poster as well, I began to be skeptical about its fat shaming being the fault of the marketing. Not sure but part of me think about a premise of mocking body shaming (besides the Yokai anime where an “ugly” girl made a deal with an evil Yokai to be beautiful).
You can't blame people for not wanting to see this movie though. It's not the same as judging a person for their looks. Why would anyone want to show their kids something like that if they can't guarantee its got a positive message?
I loved this movie, and loved how Snow white was represented. She liked herself the way she was, she didnt care about her weight. In fact, she used it as an advantage, because she was weaker while using the shoes! Plus she is so damn cute! I WANT GIVE HER A HUG
Seriously, like when I first saw the two designs for her side by side I honestly thought her original design was way prettier compared to when she wore the shoes
I like that she likes her normal body, and that hiding it comes not from self-hatred, but from self-preservation. She uses the traditional beauty to her advantage, but it's not like that's actually who she cares to be. That seems to be what makes this film different from others with similar "inner beauty" messages. Instead of the whole "you're beautiful because you're insecure" idea that a lot of media tends to have, she's beautiful, and she knows she's beautiful. That difference also then highlights the attitudes others have about traditional beauty as the problem more than just her own sense of self worth.
BUT!!! being overweight is unhealthy, and not trying to get people to excersise and eat right, keep themselves within what's considered healthy is good... telling people it's alright to give themselves a shorter life because they like the taste of mayo is like assisted suicide... plus if you like the way you look on the outside, you'll be happier with yourself on the inside.
@@AKATenn But bullying someone and making it impossible for them to live comfortably with their own choices, in some sort of pretentiously heroic act, is very very wrong. You can accept that there are health consequences to being fat, but that doesn't mean you have to tell fat people they should change. They know their weight and their health better than you, and if they see it as worth it, you should keep your opinion to yourself. Also, I think you missed the point where she actually is happy with herself in her chubby body.
@@AKATenn you can't change people though, only they can do that. The AUDACITY to call chubby women ugly to market a movie for kids, whos moms still feel guilty about the baby weight, completely ignoring the fact that they are the ones that take kids to the movies is insanely disconnected with what they were selling.
It’s such a good MOVIE ugh. I love that it was actually featuring a delightful and good message and surrounded the idea that beauty is not indicated by size. Like, especially within general the views of Asian countries socially regarding thin-ness to the point that other countries L’s are 2XL in most Asian countries, it was honestly kind of revolutionary.
I actually watched this yesterday. The whole idea of "Red Shoes" and "Snow White" being two different people was interesting and Merlin learning not to focus on appearances was a super nice touch. It was a really sweet movie!
@@yebinlee7535 It wasn't just the poster, I remember when the first teaser trailer came out and it has the same tone as the poster. It quickly turned me off from being interested in the movie. The poster was just worse and easier to spread around in comparison to the teaser.
Merlin looks like a male character that 13 year old me would have a crush on if I had seen Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs as a kid. Man, what a shame this movie never got popular.
I think its neat that Snow White in this movie already loves and appreciates herself. Its a different dynamic than most "learn to love the beauty inside" movies.
Especially since yes there are still people that need to learn to love their thicker bodies since skinny isn't achievable for everyone (genetics play a huge role in your body type), but I also have met some people that are so obsessed with being skinny and traditionally "beautiful" that they are some of the ugliest people I have ever met. Playboys (or playgirls) are a great example of this where they hop from person to person not knowing the personality of who they are with but only going for those that can offer them something. I have been hurt by a playboy before so I might be a bit biased in that statement. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and Red Shoes tries to show that. I haven't seen the movie yet but will soon
It’s still a good idea to lose weight though(coming from another overweight person) You feel so much better when you are your proper weight and have more energy and can do more things.
Prince Average was hands down the best charater in the movie, he just wanted people at his birthday party😆 he didnt even try force Snow white to marry him, just be his guest, possibly his plus one🤷🏿♀️😂
The real body of Snow White looks so kind and pure. I really like how they gave her such a gentle feeling: she seems friendly and approachable with her appearance, and they didn’t go over board with her noting that she was fat, just with the fact that she saw how the world treated her differently. A great way of handling a fat character but it’s such a shame that the marketing team decided to tank the movie.
@@latroletteeeee a cow? Really? She’s just a little overweight and you decide to dehumanize her? Sounds like you have some internal issues you gotta work through.
I’m so bummed that this movie didn’t succeed financially. The message was lovely, the animation was BEAUTIFUL, and it was a nice subversive storyline. Also, redoing the mouth animation to fit the dub?! God bless them. It’s so high quality and so great as a film meant for kids. It’s no Disney princess film, but I kind of like that. I love this movie because, even though I’m the average weight for my age and traditionally “skinny” I still sometimes feel like I’m getting too big or that I need to get rid of some weight, this movie and others like it help me realise it’s okay and I can love myself no matter what
Amen to that. I watched it with my parents and learned how harsh their standards are. It personally helped me accept my passion for art and movie-making (as opposed to my parent’s wants). My dad literally said in the log kiss scene “it won’t work cuz she’s not actually pretty.” 😭 I HOPE they got the message at the end. Honestly tho, I don’t think they liked it or cared much from what I could tell. It made me realise that, though I love my parents, I’ve been living on unrealistic expectations my whole life and that I need to make my own choices, regardless of how my parents or other people see me. 🫶✨ Um… So Yeah. this movie is not leaving me EVER. 😂🤣 Supporting it all the way. Yes it was such an important detail and feature that I love so much about it. It also tackled a lot of toxic relationships of over dependence of each others development in order for them to develop together or is with this movie it was more of a self realization in which they shared it with each other and they were able to develop as individuals and then come together which is like the perfect relationship for a cartoon couple
IT would be nive to have a vilian who is conflicted. Like she's on a tear when her shoes are stolen, but then she mellows out when she finds out that it's her stepdaughter that she _actually cares about._ It could end in big emotional way with either a selfish sacrifice to take the shoes back (wehere she is visibly pained by what she feels she has to do) or a selfless sacrifice to give the shoes away (a "family matters more" redemption arc).
I love how she doesn’t actually think any body type is prettier, she simply compares the benefits and hardships connected to each body type and declares that her original body is the one she’s most comfortable with. She doesn’t condemn being skinny OR fat and thats something we’ve waited so long for. All bodies are beautiful, but all bodies come with different benefits and hardships.
damn, she really swapped up a completely healthy body in which she could eat anything she wants without health risks and could never become decrepit and old, for an increased risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Thinking about it now, it kinda relays a weird sense of entitlement for *some reason* Then again, I guess this is assuming that she doesn't have an increased weight naturally, not as in "she's fat because she ate a lot because of her dad ate a lot and therefore genetics", more like people who are that size and actually can't help it, that appearance being just how they look even when they are in good health. In which case my sarcastic paragraph from earlier is irrelevant
@@sethtfp2373 I understand your point and it’s a totally valid theory. However, I think the likeliness of being unhealthy and fat is the same as being unhealthy and skinny. The shoes were only supposed to give her beauty, not necessarily health or strength, and her previous eating habits probably remained to some extent. I have a similar body to hers but I’ve been underweight my entire life. Diabetes and heart disease may not seem worth it, but neither does lacking the energy and muscles needed just to stand up. It’s very important to have a perfectly healthy body, but it’s harder to reach than one might think. As for entitlement, I assume you mean that it kind of praises fat and ignores skinny? That happens a lot when people discuss body positivity. I cannot speak for everyone, but as a skinny person who has been met with such comments of prejudice, this is an incredibly big step for the better than most other art and media that bring up body positivity. Like I said at the start of my post, she doesn’t really condemn being skinny. She makes it really clear that fat and skinny both have advantages and disadvantages and picks a side based on her OWN preference and familiarity. It’s not perfect and we do need to be more inclusive in the fight for body positivity, but comparing this to something like Meghan Trainers “All about that base” it’s enough for now.
@@decentgrocerybag4003 I completely agree with your point, and I hope I didn't come off as though I was saying that "largeness" is necessarily negative. what I was more trying to point to was how easily this message can be misinterpreted. I agree that the end goal of the movie is to support inclusivity and acceptance and that we could all do with a little more. However, I worry about Red Shoes reassuring people at unhealthy weights that it's ok to remain in that state when in reality it very much isn't. Malnutrition is one of the more serious problems facing society today, and I wish that the movie also discussed self-improvement, though I realise this expectation is unrealistic and would likely get them in bad hr situations.
@@sethtfp2373 wow I’m so impressed that there’s no irrational arguments in this comment section. There needs to be more room for debate in the body positivity movement.

While it is a kid's movie, it never went to the boss baby type 'we only want toddlers to see' movie most animations in our country have. I stopped watching Korean animations because I don't wanna see another kid's transformer type show or the same Kirby(without any sense of lore or cinematic adventure) type all defeating superhero show. It was boring. Then this came out, I had small hopes and my standards were low. I was aware of our country's beauty standards so like any other person, I watched it thinking it would be a princess diary type. I left with my cousin screaming over how the dwarves were super hot. Also about how Snow white is like really pretty in both forms, I would love to have her as an older sister friend Edit) some people seem to think I hate Kirby and I don't. What I meant by Kirby(but without any lore or sense of cinematic adventure), I meant Kirby has lore and amazing cinematic adventure. It was to describe how alot of Korean animations directed towards children often have these 'Kirby' type protagonists, chatacters that are so overpowered compared to the challenges they face. But unlike Kirby, these animations tend to lose any sense of interesting lore or adventure that pleases the eye.
people are saying they like the 'original' snow better, meanwhile I'm just here admiring both of them. I think snow without the shoes and snow with the shoes both look great.
Yeah, like was it really that necessary? It's not that big of a deal when the mouth movement doesn't much the sound, especially when you are a kid. For the rest of the world it's normal it when it's dubbed into their language, English-speakers would just have to deal with it. Seriously, it's just a waste of time and effort for the animators this is A LOT of work
@@Nuti196 This is why the people in charge of making the English scripts/dubs of foreign movies/shows rewrite the lines based on lip movement while still fitting the context rather than doing a word-for-word direct translation of every line. Completely reanimating every single thing with mouth movements only wastes an incredible amount of time and resources for all parties involved.
@@Jason_Altea However, changing the lines could change the context of some of the scenes. The English language is weird; one ill worded sentence could mean the difference between a well placed joke, and a mean remark. I watched this without knowing much about it at all, and I had never heard of it. I watched it two more times since, it's a great movie! And as someone who spent much of my life being quite overweight, I really appreciate the real message in the movie. My (real) friends have said I'm beautiful now, and was beautiful then. Plus, a side message (separate from appearances) that I saw in it, having worked hard to lose over 200 pounds, is that magic won't fix your problems or change who you are inside.
It shouldve said "What if snow white didnt fit the beauty standard" because thats what it is, and it teaches weight doesnt matter, its about the person
@@ishierrogamer7798 it does matter if you're unhealthy overweight, but some people are chubby and healthy. And let's be real, people don't judge you cuz you're unhealthy.... they judge you because you look "ugly" or just "not pretty" to them. It doesn't hurt to make more chubby characters that love their body esp nowadays. And I think the movie itself helps not only with being seen normal when you weight different but also with just looking different - body and face-wise (the fairy having a "witch's face" etc.). I don't think saying to an overweight person they are healthy when they're not is okay, same with too skinny people. But what I do think they shouldn't be treated different because of their looks. Some people are just passing through a phase, some people have health problems and can't help it, some people are just healthier on the chubbier side. And we all have stuff we can't change in our body. The thing we can and should change, however, is how people treat other people.

It's interesting how if you look closer, the characters, especially the dwarves have vaguely asian looking design. It's awesome seeing south korea, who is very homogenous in population, do a spin on a western story
They all have traits of Neotny (?), which are all very common in Disney 3D films because it makes characters look cuter. But, I do agree, they look particularly Asian. If you're a fan of K-drama as well, it's easy to pick out the expressions of the characters. Compared to more Western animated films (who am I kidding, I'm talking about Disney), their expressions are a little more muted as opposed to how they are expressed in Korean media (I don't watch any other media, so I can't genuinely say if it's like that for other Asian countries).
I'm *VERY* glad to have found your review, 'cause, based on all the advertising, I'd completely given up on wanting to see this movie at all for the reasons you'd given ... but it actually sounds quite charming!
@@beatm6948 The comment goes for people trying to excuse or justify why they think she is beautiful despite the fact she's fat or chubby or whatever, because for some beautiful and overweight are characteristics that dont go together, fat is ugly so this girl is like an exception to that rule, and they try to calm their hearts by saying "yeah she's not so fat!!"... she is, thats the point bro
The fact that it’s a South Korean movie makes me understand how that poster was approved. South Korea is known for being extremely fat-phobic and heavily emphasizes being skinny as being beautiful.
There is a majjooorrrr thing against being even slightly a tiny bit chubby, let alone "fat" so it isnt shocking knowing its from south korea. Over there its shameful to even be americas version of skinny, its all about being petite
@Sierra Lorraine Barrett body type does NOT always reflect your health. Many people have perfect diets, exercise, etc and are considered fat by at least American beauty standards. Then there's people who eat junk food all day and lay around, but they're skinny. (By American beauty standards) So don't assume that someone is healthy because they're skinny and vice versa❤️
@Sierra Lorraine Barrett sometimes its just your body type. i've been overweight my whole life but im in great health but i dont lose much weight when i work out and go on diets. my cousin have been almost underweight his whole life, no matter how much he eats. he's in great health as well. body types do not reflect your health. when we say "being overweight/fat is okay", we dont mean "being unhealthy is okay", we just want you to love your body and yourself because mental health is just as important as physical health :)
@Sierra Lorraine Barrett just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.. Pointing out fat is bad ain't same as bullying ppl for it. Ta da

I'm so glad I did 😊 I was also caught out by the marketing and didn't watch it at the time, but it was such a fun take on the story. If you've watched any Korean romantic comedy, you'll see all the tropes from those movies. It's a fun experience! All they had to do for the marketing was ask: "What if the real story was not what you'd been told?"
btw they thought she was a witch cos she was "ugly" so they attacked her, but she was really a fairy princess and she cursed them for judging her by her looks. (Merlin also said something like "how were we supposed to know, she was ugly and princesses are pretty") The whole thing couldve been avoided it if they took like 2 seconds to talk to the princess lol

This is a Korean movie. Apparently the original concept was “don’t change yourself for others.” I think the English translation didn’t capture the nuances of the other language.
Knowing the little I do of Korean culture, that seems like an especially important message

The fact that Snow white likes herself without the shoes on is the biggest plot twist I've seen in these types of movies.
She has more muscle in her OG form, the enchanted one is only for outward appearence.
Oddly enough both enchantments impair the fighting abilities of the main leads.

the reason her magic body looks like a Kpop star is that the korean beauty standard is very uniform, she's meant to look like the most traditionally beautiful korean girl
It’s sad how Korean standards of beauty are very Eurocentric. Pale skin, round eyes, not above 6 feet (for women).
It is sad what they do to these groups if they step out of line.
Hell there was a HUGE scandal when a kpop girl and guy dated and the girl was fired.
@Apollo Sebaztian You were admittedly quite intense, but I do get where you're coming from. I'm half Asian (Japanese specifically.) I mean, it makes sense that the protag girl of a Korean movie looks... well... Korean. No?

Yeah. Over the years, I've honestly become more jaded about Asian countries' cultures, namely how they seem to discourage individuality. This message of accepting yourself is very healthy, and I hope it helps some of the younger generations come to realize they can't keep living like everyone else because it's unhealthy.
Also, rock on for being okay with how you are ^_^
(Not saying Western culture is better, of course. We could do with a tiny bit less individuality, at least to the point where we aren't encouraging selfishness and pointless competition.)

As a Korean, I’d like to point out that there are some HIGH beauty standards in Korea. The fat-shaming poster may have been relatively okay back then. Obviously, the high beauty standards have fallen enough for people to understand why that poster was kinda messed up.
I’m just saying, don’t get TOO mad at messages or beliefs of different cultures without some heavy context and cultural knowledge.

i’m glad they didn’t go the “girl thinks she’s fat and ugly and learns to love herself to get the hot dude” route and instead had the hot dude have to be the one who learns to change
It's a nice surprise
Yeah, it’s interesting how stories will usually have
Conventionally hot girl but with a quirky personality.

One problem money
But if the cover isn't at least decent, you won't give the inside of the book a first glance.

I think its neat that Snow White in this movie already loves and appreciates herself. Its a different dynamic than most "learn to love the beauty inside" movies.
It’s honestly really great I’m slowly falling in love with the representation and psychology in it
Agreed
Yeah different, but for the worse.
It’s still a good idea to lose weight though(coming from another overweight person) You feel so much better when you are your proper weight and have more energy and can do more things.

Or maybe "What if snow white had to learn to love who she is no matter how she looks"
Ummm but she already loved her normal body
The real body of Snow White looks so kind and pure. I really like how they gave her such a gentle feeling: she seems friendly and approachable with her appearance, and they didn’t go over board with her noting that she was fat, just with the fact that she saw how the world treated her differently. A great way of handling a fat character but it’s such a shame that the marketing team decided to tank the movie.

That would be interesting.
Thinking about it now, it kinda relays a weird sense of entitlement for *some reason*
Then again, I guess this is assuming that she doesn't have an increased weight naturally, not as in "she's fat because she ate a lot because of her dad ate a lot and therefore genetics", more like people who are that size and actually can't help it, that appearance being just how they look even when they are in good health.

As a Korean preparing to be an animator, this movie was one I never believed would've been made in Korea.
Also about how Snow white is like really pretty in both forms, I would love to have her as an older sister friend
Edit) some people seem to think I hate Kirby and I don't. What I meant by
Kirby(but without any lore or sense of cinematic adventure), I meant
Kirby has lore and amazing cinematic adventure. It was to describe how alot of Korean animations directed towards children often have these 'Kirby' type protagonists, chatacters that are so overpowered compared to the challenges they face. But unlike Kirby, these animations tend to lose any sense of interesting lore or adventure that pleases the eye.
I loved Boss Baby, there were a lot of clever jokes for adults throughout the movie.

@@Nuti196
This is why the people in charge of making the English scripts/dubs of foreign movies/shows rewrite the lines based on lip movement while still fitting the context rather than doing a word-for-word direct translation of every line.
A characters mouth movements not matching the lines can be distracting, but that's why you rewrite around it.
Ghost stories dubbed is a good example of a change in tone compared to both the raws and the subbed.
Also, maybe they just wanted to challenge themselves. Good for them, they're sharpening their skills.

The two main characters especially Merlin have a very K-pop idol look to them.
It's unmistakable.

Hmmmm, pretty much i think
@@erikshure360 Well she was green-skinned and had pointy ears but she was also in a royal dress and was wearing a crown.
They thought she was a witch cos she was on a broom😑
"I don't care about your height or what color you are." HIT ME HARRRRD
Fuckin' cringe, that line is pandering so much to the overtly sensitive. People shouldn't expect to be liked or loved by everyone in society.
@@jf7730 People also shouldn't have a preference over things they can't (or don't want to) control. It's stupid, wrong and unethical, if you don't like someone don't let it be because of physical attributes that define who they are.
@@dabrionheath1642 You want people to defy their human nature. It's a natural instinct to have preferences and yes, that includes having preferences over superficial things. I don't agree with picking on someone for things they can't control like height and color for no reason but it doesn't mean that everyone has to nor should be expected to like or feel attraction to that person. If the issues or flaws CAN be controlled or fixed but they choose to not do so, people don't have any obligation to accept or pretend that those controllable issues or flaws are ok in their personal view. It's not stupid, wrong, or unethical to not like people for whatever reasons you may have nor should anyone expect to be liked by everyone.
@@jf7730 somebody still shouldn't be judged by what they look like. Everybody deserves respect.
@@jf7730 it’s one thing to have preference but when you’re going to mistreat people because of things they can’t control then that’s just stupid mate
