They're both terrible parents in their own ways. Blake is passively awful - he never directly punishes Steven for being gay, but his rejection and clear disapproval causes a lot of Steven's self destructive behavior. He doesn't recognize that Fallon is like him in ideals and personality and is more suited to running his business than either of his sons because she's a woman. This causes her to seek his approval in other ways that are often demeaning (like how she keeps marrying rich dudes as a way to broker deals for the company) Alexis nurtures her daughter's ambition, and is accepting of her son's homosexuality. However, she teaches them manipulation, scheming and other ways to hurt people. And she never views it a problem, the way she constantly tries to destroy her children's father, so for all her acceptance of her children, she's just as selfish as Blake.
"Adopt Danny? He merely purchased him from his desperate mother!" The writing was so good! But poor Steven. I know someone whose parents sued for custody of her child after she came out - and they won. So wrong.
The reboot is still on despite very low (and continually shrinking) viewership. It survives because the bar at The CW is so low. The CW lost 26% of viewers in 2020 (per Nielsen), so Dynasty and all other CW trash keep getting renewed no matter how bad they are. If the Dynasty reboot had been on any other network, it would have been cancelled by the end of the first season.
The scriptwriters were trying to recreate the magic of the Ted Dinard trial, but alas this quality had sadly dissipated from the show a long time since..
